What character best represents a “by any means necessary” mindset, in anime?

My pick, and probably the most notorious representation for this topic is Griffith from Berserk. There’s literally nothing he wouldn’t do to obtain what he’s after😭

I initially thought about Eren from Attack on Titan, but I genuinely don’t think anybody beats out Griffith in this aspect. Curious to know who I’m not thinking about

Myne from Ascendance of a Bookworm. It's literally in the (sub)title.

She draws the line at [AoaB S2]>!letting orphans starve to death so that she can read undisturbed.!<

Bondrewd from Made in abyss.

This is the one of the most messed up characters I have ever watched. If I could I would have his socks be perpetually damp

theEvilQuesadilla2026-01-02 01:59

Probably the best representation, yeah. It doesn't matter what he's sacrificing, whether it's children or even himself, not a single care is given.

Dio Brando from JJBA

Pepelefrogswood2026-01-02 00:32

Yep. He was on my mind as well…He was really at his most demonic in part 1 before [JJBA part 1 spoilers] >!he got his powers!<

Demiurge from Overlord is up there

vonov1292026-01-02 00:41

Kiritsugu from Fate Zero

Ithambar2026-01-02 09:58

But \[Fate/Zero\] >!He rejects the grail at the end since the means it shows him do not agree with him, doesn't he?!<

Force3vo2026-01-03 03:09

He rejects it because it wouldn't fulfill his dream anyway, being cursed.

OtherwiseProgrammer92026-01-02 13:17

I believe this is a better answer than Griffith because Kitsugu would sacrifice anyone including himself

The concept of Shadow’s (Eminence in Shadow) entire power was to become as powerful as a nuclear blast because he did everything he could to attain as much power as possible but was limited by his human capabilities

Force3vo2026-01-03 03:12

That's not fitting the thread very well.

The fact that shadow is literally making up complete combat arts to fake being a weakling only to have his "real" identity be a complete loser so the shadow identity can pop off harder fits pretty well, though.

Literally learned how to revive himself after death so he could get killed like a background character in a terrorist raid lol.

Mordred1332026-01-02 00:54

Perhaps Goblin Slayer from Goblin Slayer

Raddish30302026-01-02 00:57

Midosouji for Yowamushi Pedal.

Try hard doesn't even begin to describe him.

Everything for the sake of victory (in a Sports anime).

Not the best show, but I'm Standing On A Million Lives. For a while, they think they're in a video game and they do some horrific stuff to people. Then they feel pretty bad about it when they find out it's all real, but they keep doing what it takes to win.

filimaua132026-01-02 01:14

I wouldn't say these are the best representives but they're my favorites of the type:

Ayanokoji from Classroom of the Elite

Roswaal from Re:Zero
