I get bullied for liking anime

I am 15 years old recently god into high school and when people found out I read mangas,watch anime thy instantly made fun of me. I was always introverted and never really talked to anyone but there are always jerks everywhere. Look I don’t make anime signs or speak in anime and all these I just watch them and read them. I don’t know what’s the problem with it,apparently it’s porn for them,which for some shows might be but when I put on a anime they think I will just jerk it off but that’s not the truth and I always ignore them and let it slide. Should I talk back to them or any advice? They made me hate myself and never want to go to school or meet people.

Hey, I’m really sorry you’re dealing with this. What you’re going through isn’t really about anime or manga. It’s about being in high school, especially being new. Ninth grade is genuinely tough for a lot of people.

Almost everyone has been bullied or made fun of at some point. Different interests, being quiet, standing out, or just being in the wrong place at the wrong time can be enough. It doesn’t mean there’s anything wrong with you.

High school does get better as time goes on. People mature, social groups settle, and things usually calm down. After high school, this kind of behavior mostly disappears because people move on with their lives and stop caring about policing others’ interests.

You don’t owe anyone an explanation for what you like. You also don’t have to talk back if you don’t want to. Ignoring it is a valid choice, and so is setting boundaries if it feels right. Try not to let their words turn into how you see yourself.

A lot of people who bully others are dealing with things of their own, often at home or in their personal lives. That doesn’t excuse it, but it does mean their behavior isn’t really about you.

Please don’t let this convince you that you should hate yourself or avoid people. You belong, and this phase of life is temporary, even if it doesn’t feel that way right now. Many of us have been where you are, and we got through it.

Reddit is ridiculous sometimes in removing posts. Honestly. I get it in instances where it’s like people trying to sell things or scam people or where the topic has nothing to do with it. But if you can’t post it here where can you? People wouldn’t really understand in a bullying subreddit. Anime is the best spot really for it.

It's just a hobby like any other my friend. Everyone has one. In your age i was there too. Except i actually played yugioh with a friend in school.

I guess what i can say is that when people say stuff like that, they're talking more about themselves then you. About their insecurities and other stuff. And come on, if they know all that information, they had to have watched it too you know.

I know it seems overwhelming and awful now, but in just over 3 years you will never have to see these people again. Life gets SO much easier after high school. Ignore these people, they will be irrelevant in the grand scheme of your life. I graduated high school 10 years ago and I would struggle to name 10 of my HS classmates.

I know it's hard, but there is nothing to hate about yourself, you just like watching TV. You're doing great and I believe in you. Please keep going to school.

Your English writing is pretty great for 15, and will only continue to get better! And being a nerd is awesome, it often goes along with passion, creativity, and curiosity. Just try and avoid those people as much as you can while at school. Don't be afraid to tell a teacher or counselor if you need help dealing with bullies. You've got this. Every time you name a thing you dislike about yourself, name something you like about yourself to balance it out and not get caught in a negative spiral.
