on paper this season looks stronger than Fall, but in reality Fall had some great surprises so I'm not sure. we'll have to wait and see.
Guess it's the first time in the new year to give [this banger](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ImxS7rLBLNY) a listen.
On that note, finally completed the first season of Medalist, and now ready for the upcoming one.
Some people may be surprised, but I’m sort of okay with this conclusion. [Watanare TV Specials] >!This isn’t my favourite outcome since I would’ve rather seen Renako pick a single girlfriend - preferably Ajisai - after having a heart-to-heart with the other about what she *really* wants. This would’ve left a stronger impact. That said, I can understand why she couldn’t bear to hurt either. Renako loves both too much. Her feelings looked sincere to me.!<
And [Watanare TV Specials] >!I would’ve hated it so much more if she’d picked Mai in attempt to keep her from leaving the country. Mai likely didn’t mean to do so, but isn’t that basically emotional blackmail?!<
I would make one important revision, however: [Watanare TV Specials] >!I would’ve had Renako explicitly propose to simultaneously date both Mai and Ajisai on a trail basis - to find out if she loves one more than the other. Even if things don’t work out, that way both girls would’ve had a happy relationship with Renako.!<
[Watanare Tv special cont]>!Mai leaving for good feels like a classic romcom trope where Renako realizes her feelings and that she can't just expect Mai or Ajisai to wait for her to make up her mind.!<
note: in this, tried means watched at least 1 episode. Dropped means dropped after >3 episodes. Dual cours are counted in both their seasons as if they were 2 seperate entries unless dropped before the 2nd cour

Winter 2025 is an odd one, with the widest variance in scores that ends up skewing positively thanks to those 3 heavy hitters.
Fall 2025 is... depressing, but at the same time I was kinda busy and burnt out (cough cough Summer 2025 cough cough) so not entirely its fault either.
Summer 2025 surprisingly not only having the most tried anime but also the highest completion rate of them all. I've noticed seasonal momentum is quite a strong force for me (refer to Fall 2025 lol)
And Spring 2025 ends up right in the middle with no clear winners but nothing particularly horrible either.
Please win short of the year!
If so, it should.
Not eligible for that. Short series are put in with full length series to make sure they never win anything.
All are NSFW except #5

Like, sure, underdog stories are fun, but I think at this point they're a little overplayed. I want to see more series about top level athletes who know they're top level athletes and act like it. I feel like there's this notion that such stories aren't interesting, but I would disagree. I find the quest to push the human limit particularly interesting, as well as the zero sum nature of it all such that at the end of the day, only one person will ever come out on top, regardless of how hard everyone involved is giving it their all.
It's something I appreciate *100 Meters* for touching on and wish it had offered a little more meaty discussion of. It's why *Ping Pong the Animation* is my all-time favorite sports anime, and I wish we'd get more like it out of the genre.
> as well as the zero sum nature of it all such that at the end of the day, only one person will ever come out on top, regardless of how hard everyone involved is giving it their all.
I don't think this is a good or accurate way of talking about high level sports. Whilst it's true that only one person/team can win any given competition, that doesn't mean they're the only one who comes out satisfied. The athletes may have personal goals other than winning (e.g. if you're generally ~10th best in the world, getting third is an excellent result). And this is before we consider that there may be many competitions throughout the year and different athletes in different parts of their careers.
And yeah, I mean there’s plenty of other narratives to spin about top level athletes, and part of what I do like about *Ping Pong* is how it kind of explores all of that, but I think the point still stands that we don’t see any of them as much as I’d like.
And I mean it’s not just sports. I want more stories about skilled craftsman pushing the human limit. I think it’s an underutilized narrative archetype that we don’t see much of these days.
Overall thoughts: high 8/10, lots of things to like about this adaptation, visuals and audio were great though the 3d was noticeable and a bit jarring when it appears. While I was initially interested in the reframing of the story into a mystery while the original lacked that element almost entirely, I think in the end it hurt its overall point than helped.
The main difference in framing is that they leave the Count's identity until much later in the anime, while the book just leads with the inciting incident with [Count of Monte Cristo]>!Edmond Dantes!<, then later introduces the Count, oh so mysterious, and I wonder who he could be, certainly not the guy we intro'd the book with and is now absent right?
This switch has the pretty major effect that the anime watcher isn't aware that this is a [Count of Monte Cristo]>!revenge story, and more importantly the crimes committed by Danglars, Morcef, and Villefort.!< This knowledge changes the reader's experience vs the anime watcher experience a *lot*. For the majority of the book, I'd say, the reader is supposed to be cheering on the Count as he carries out his various plots, thinking it's a just [CoMC]>!revenge!< while I don't think the anime watcher is supposed to see these events as positively.
The point of both the book and anime progress to [CoMC]>!the revenge going *way* too far, as he seeks to destroy the trio's children to destroy all their hope, and the book's framing just works much better for this. The reader's on the Count's side, they want to see him succeed and the villainous trio fall, sure, maybe he's going a bit too far... oh no, maybe that's crossing a line, oh no, that's too far, Count stop it STOPITSTOPITSTOPIT. And the journey from being on the Count's side to being against his implacable judgment is one of the greatest strengths of this particular story, one that I think is missing from the anime due to its framing. We're supposed to be too suspicious of the Count, so when he does start going too far we weren't really on his side in the first place so the watcher doesn't have the same moment of horror the readers did.!<
It's still a legendary story, and still deserves a solidly great score, but I think the reframing of the story hurts its overall point at the end. I want to go read the book again, darn it.
Doesn't mean it's a bad practice, though, we see interactions and battles we won't see in the manga due to this approach.
[My Favourite Anime from 2025](https://cdn.imgchest.com/files/7e54d5076b9d.jpg)
I tried writing down something for all ten entries. I’ve probably never had more difficulty with setting on the precise rankings for any shows. They all got what it takes to claim a top spot.
Some honourable mentions:
- City The Animation
- Crush at Work
- Dealing with the Mikadono Sisters is a Breeze
- Mono: Weekend Animation
- Rock is A Lady’s Modesty
- Toilet-Bound Hanako-kun (Season 2)
- Umamusume: Cinderella Grey
- With You and the Rain
I maybe wouldn’t have placed Ninkoro quite this high if I’d been ranking the *best* of 2025, but I’m a big fan of the show’s dark comedy. More CGDCT anime like this, please. And studio Shaft did impress me a lot on the production side of things.
TSHD managed to exceed my expectations. Its 10th-place rank was mostly due to the competition being so fierce. I simply ended up getting *more* invested in other series. I got high hopes of the 2nd season nonetheless.
...for a wild ride on the space train with a bunch of lovable goofballs.
(I'm actually 2 for 2 recognizing the place images so far this year, which is rare!)
I watched it in Japanese and that voice cast was a delight
If the song isn't good, it's a "one-and-done" for me.
Like any song, it's extremely subjective - you either enjoy listening to it or you don't, there's no objective good or bad song ^((except for jazz)). everyone's taste is different.
But as for good themesongs, it's gotta be something that sounds like it belongs in the series it's made for. Like, I'll never skip would be *Nichijou*'s [Hyadain no kakakata kataomoi](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qUk1ZoCGqsA) or Martian successor Nadesico's [You get to burning!](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LwQ0Swom6zU), just because they *sound* good to me and fit the tone of their respective series perfectly. *Nichijou* is positive, silly, etc. Hyadain is quite a character and the PERFECT artist to sing this. Same with *Nadesico's* song - it gets you the fuck going (tho the tone of the series is quite varied).
There are also productions which go the extra mile. Like, *Watashi ga motenai no wa dō kangaetemo omaera ga warui!'*s [Dou kangaete mo watashi wa warukunai](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PWOTQRduHeA), which has the protagonist's VA sing in the same style (which has to be murder on her voice, damn). Same with *Kamichu*!'s [Ice candy](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aW8zdDaQ5lg), featuring the VAs singing, but also a cute animation on an ema. Stuff like that is memorable.
So yea, like you said, it's those series where the opening/ending theme isn't just a lazy collection of fragments and it's treated respectfully.
This is
The invisible girl reappears in front of someone, and I think the whole episode was hentai. I don't remember anything else.
Can you say this anime name, season and oppisite?
Damn it, got too excited for potential Vinland Saga season 3 news. I think better to wait for a more reputable source

Starting 2026 smart.

In fact I might go as far as saying that I prefer indirect over earnest communication in fiction, unless it's a one-time pouring out of your heart at the climax of an arc. Much more engaging to have to interpret what they really want to communicate from their words/actions rather than them just blurting it out with no interpretation necessary by the audience.
Fragrant Flower has a church youth group kind of vibe comparatively.
* If you’re looking for a story centered around mages that isn’t your typical “they go around fighting and casting spells and blowing things up”, *Secrets of the Silent Witch* was a great one from this past year.
* If you’re looking for a story about how a group is formed and their journey, *Delicious in Dungeon* is recommended. It’s got some fighting, but mostly it’s about finding a lost party member in the dungeon and enjoying food along the way.
* If you’re looking more for a personal journey, I cannot recommend *Apocalypse Hotel* enough. It might be too “spacey” for your tastes, but the story is so compelling and so well done. The series also has my favorite episode of any anime from this past year.
The basic plot is that humanity left Earth due to a disease that was wiping them out, but an android concierge maintains a hotel on Earth (with her robotic staff) waiting for their return, even after a century passes
There are some that don't, Planetes for instance is a pretty good near future drama, about space garbagemen. Astra Lost in Space, is a space survival mystery story....there is variety out there. You also do have traditional takes on the space opera genre, Space Cobra is an old 80s anime however, it's pretty much Flash Gordon, down to the aesthetic, and bombshell female compatriots. You have works like Legend of the Galactic Heroes too, that more high minded and focus capital ship fighting a long with a lot of politics, Space Battleship Yamato (watch the remake 2199) is pretty much Battlestar Galactica and even within the mecha genre, the storytelling there can be quite diverse.
It's pretty modern (2015), so that might help if you are more used to modern anime (a lot of notable space operas or mecha works are older 70s-2000s). The premise is the classic Mars Rebellion storyline, however, I thought it largely did a great job with it. Not going to force you into it, since some people just can't stand giant robots (though you have some like Votoms that are more like power armor) however, if you like space operas, mecha is great for that.
Also for Legend of the Galactic Heroes if you do watch it, do the two films first, then the OVA/show. They are a better introduction to series as a whole and you skip to EP 3 afterwards.
To Your Eternity might fit what you’re looking for too. It’s extremely character driven early on and also has that cozy adventure vibe. I would say again that this only applies to the first season but I also know there are a good number of people who are justified in feeling differently.
If you happen to read manga, there‘s one called ‘High Elf With a Long Life’ that’s really well written/translated and mirrors a whole bunch of the themes explored in Frieren, particularly concerning the mortality (and the weight that accompanies it) of a longed lived species living in a world dominated by the non-long lived. Also scratches the cozy adventure itch well. No anime for this one yet, but I’d bet my ears there will be.
* Cowboy Bebop (bounty hunters in space)
* If too "spacey", try Samurai Champloo (two ronin escorting a young woman in feudal Japan. With a hip hop soundtrack.)
* Hell, see Samurai Champloo even if you watched Cowboy Bebop
* Made in Abyss (Beautiful but very dangerous fantasy world that is explored by a bunch of kids. Doesn't shy away from grim stuff, so be warned. Also the author is a freak and has inserted some of his fetishes into the series, but I feel it is still worth to check out. Just go in forewarned)
* Spice and Wolf (medieval merchant and an immortal wolf spirit meet cute and decide to travel together. The ultimate goal is taking her home, but its the journey, not the-- you get the idea. Two versions, of which I suggest the new one as that seems to be aiming for a complete adaptation with a sequel on the way)
- Girls Last Tour
- Mushishi
- Violet Evergarden
- Yokohama Shopping Log
- Kino's Journey
I pick up (almost) every show, so if it's not on the list, either I'm not caught up yet (Frieren, Chained soldier, Hell's paradise, Medalist, etc...), or I dropped the prequels (JJK, Fire Force...)
I didn't know/notice she was in this hah;
Besides a few exceptions (Mostly Ai Fairouz, and a little of Hanakana/Rieri) I don't even pay attention to VAs when picking up a show!
To me it's all about premise/genres/tags;
Tamon B-Side is an idol show (don't watch those other than Zombieland), male (even worse), with a [anilist tags]>!love triangle!<, that's a LOT of strikes for me!
Kunon the Sorcerer looks like generic "Mage kid wants to be become most powerful mage", I don't see the hook. (The fact that he's blind may make it different, but different doesn't necessarily mean better, that's not much of a hook).
As for Cosmic Princess Kaguya, I have a small interest because it's based on the classic (which I also haven't watched), but the "music" tag and all couldn't place it any higher!
Also, A New Dawn, third from the ~~left~~ right on the „drop after 1 ep“ tier is a movie, so not like you could watch further anyway lol.
Well, MAL says "with new scenes added" so that's what I'm basing it on!
FWIW I'm super high on Milky Subway (it was #2 in my AOTY ranking for 2025) so it doesn't need to do much 'new stuff' to be in my top 5 in this season!
>A New Dawn [..] is a movie
Hah, didn't notice. Well, it might be *during* the 'episode' then, but we'll see!
The movie has already announced [two completely new characters](https://x.com/i/status/2000845352744968271) lol
Tag: Iyashikei.
The only Iyashikei I ever completed, I rated it 5/10 and regret watching it because it was a waste of time.
>Hanakimi
The list of turn off flags would be long to list, but "Love Polygon" is enough; Just like tag above, I only ever completed 1 anime with Love Polygon tag (Toradora), and I hated the love polygon shit (even though it wasn't even much).
(And this one also has male harem & stuff).
While there’s a lot of shoujo airing this season, bluntly speaking, I don’t particularly care for any of them except maybe The Holy Grail of Eris.
OnK S3, Shiboyugi, Roll Over and Die, and Android though, I’m looking forward to those!

(Edit to add: It actually worked! I'm starting off the new year just a bit more tech savvy too.)
Coppelion, Erased, Your Lie in April and Maquia are also quite good!
I hit a random number between 1 and 24 and got 15 so I guess I'll start the year with [Rabbit](https://myanimelist.net/anime/21273/Gochuumon_wa_Usagi_desu_ka).
And I really liked Vivy, hope you enjoy it too.
Nice batch there, hope you enjoy Tutu.
](https://v.animethemes.moe/Bokurano-OP1.webm) has been playing on my mind ever since I first heard it.
[](#finethen)
Honestly, these days I can’t think of too many “snob communities” left besides (ironically enough) *One Piece* and *Hunter x Hunter*. I haven’t had much issue with *Frieren* fans and nothing else that’s “snobbish” has a large enough footprint to feel relevant. I guess you’ve got those bastard *Milky Subway* fans who won’t shut up about how peak peak is, but yeah most fandoms I’ve interacted with outside Shounen are either chill or horny (which is a whole different can of worms). I guess the only one left is the “modern anime bad, classic anime good” community, but they’ve always been uptight snobs and honestly are also not something I run into all that frequently (besides, you guessed it, Shounen Bros).
>those bastard Milky Subway fans who won’t shut up about how peak peak is
No need to call me out thrice [](#flattered)
My conclusion is that the work simply attracted that kind of person: One who doesn't watch that much anime and tends to have extreme views and reactions towards it.
Mal recently published their most popular anime of the year (https://myanimelist.net/stacks/76011). Know that while the average level of the people who use MAL forums is better, the level of those who use the website in general is just slightly better than the level of people on Twitter, which itself is slightly better than the level of people who use TikTok, etc
It's disproportionately low score is just the other side of the coin of everything else popular having a higher score than it should, in an almost "halo effect".
Note that the same doesn't happen with Mob Psycho 100, and there's a reason for that: Murata's naturalistic artstyle will attract the type of people who complains about DuChamp's "Fountain" and the banana in a wall, the type of people who thinks every game should be re-made on Unreal Engine 5 and doesn't play any game that is older than 10 years that doesn't have a remake. Compound that with the fact that the adaptations brought people who don't seem to understand this is a comedy series and start unironically discussing power-levels and all of that is predictable to happen.
It's what I called "sportsball mentality", think the type of most toxic sports fans that beat one another in the streets, whose teams victory is but a way for them to bully other people, and when their team starts losing they just go beat someone.
It's the same thing here: For a lot of people, OPM was just a way to flex how "the thing I'm into" (And also not really, because I'm pretty sure a ton of them didn't read or watch it, rather just sharing TikTok edits of it) was better than "the thing you're into", so the moment "the thing" invites the bullying they enacted into other people, they now hate it at a personal level.
Remember, people talked like it was an apocalypse that there wasn't a puff of dust in the background when Garou slid (He was also sliding in the manga), and I also saw stuff of the level of people just straight up lying about issues that didn't happen.
I'm unironically starting to believe that people should only be allowed to comment on anime after they have watched at least 100 titles (50, if I'm being generous).
Currently I'm watching the original Uchuu Senkan Yamato series, and there isn't almost a single episode without some plothole, inconsistency, animation error or a hair being on-screen. Yet you won't see that many people speaking negatively about Yamato online, simply because this type of anime already filters for another type of fan.
Surprisingly her character shares some key aspects of Yor Forger. One, her cooking skills are in the negative range (but she lacks Yor's housecleaning skill). Two, she gets drunk easily and is a very "sloppy" drunk.
I would note that she was already a strong singer and got the job of handling the ED (joined by the two other main female cast members for the last few episodes).
The show itself is actually pretty decent, centered around the two boys who are the last of the bloodline of a powerful family of priestesses and a fox Deity who is connected with that family (also as a protector). The cast would be considered pretty star-studded now -- but most would have been fairly new like Hayamin back then
Not sure how it will turn out in the end, but it has been a rewarding excursion so far.
But I am amazed by so much of the work of all the best VAs. Even if I didn't avoid subs on principle (inherited from my pre-anime cinema preferences), I would never want to give up on the voices I enjoy so much.
Yeah. Checks out.
* Turbo Granny
Pretty much the same character.

I love Jigo, imagine now that it has more than a energy drink and a dream of resources for this season
Pony Canyon tax
That an JJK are probably just there so Abyss can stay up to date on Mappa drama.
Just don't post on the internet you did that lol
If that's the new one that's coming this season, sure.
Enjoyed:
- Kaiju 8-gou
- Jigokuraku
Had some issues, but will continue:
- Nige Jozou Wakagimi
- Sakamoto Days
Watched but didn’t enjoy, don’t really care about the sequels:
- Jujutsu Kaisen
- Chainsaw Man
Dropped:
- Dandadan
- Wind Breaker
- Tokyo Revengers
I have Boku no Hero’s spinoff in the to-watch list, but I’m curious if there are others that might have slipped that are worth a try.
Thank you in advance.
JJk would be in my enjoyed with Kaiju 8 and Sakmoto would go down to the dropped for example. Dandadan and Windbreaker we agree. The others I haven't watched.
So a long long time ago I read the first 3 parts. Truthfully didn't care for it much and hated the art, but part 3 had a bit more variety and I found the direction it COULD go a little more interesting. I thought I remember hearing in the past it changes a lot from the first couple parts.
I know I am in the minority in not liking the early parts so I guess my question is, would the anime be worth giving a chance starting at part 4, knowing that I enjoyed part 3 the most of the first 3? Or will I probably just not like it.

[I'm absolutely cracking up at some of the picks I got.](https://cdn.imgchest.com/files/f51ab8323999.png)
For reference, I currently have 170 shows on my Plan to Watch and I add stuff there *very* liberally. Like, pretty much whenever I hear someone mention a remotely interesting show, I throw it in there.
As a result, now I have a pretty hilarious mix of classics I've missed, some shows I'm actually interested in, some shows I have absolutely no idea why I've ever even added them, and some absolute stinkers.
I'm really excited to see some of these, and absolutely terrified of having to watch some others!

Ooh, Erin and Lain.
[](#skyhype)
That's one of the shows I have zero memory of, I don't even really know what it is about
[](#harukathonk)
But it must have been highly recommended by *someone somewhere* for me to add it on my list, so I'm excited. I love going into shows completely blind!
(And I'm one of the people who also has Your Lie In April on our bingo list.)
[](#elves)
It also has completely unnecessary flashbacks to expository scenes from earlier episodes as if the viewer can't be trusted to remember even major character details.
[](#shirayukifuckinreally "At some point, people will listen to my isekai opinions")
That wouldn't have made a difference for my comment on this episode though?
