Is there anyway to fix the fuzziness of older anime dvds?
I got some new box sets for Christmas and one has extreme fuzziness. I know its probably from compression and all that, but id like to potentially make it a little more tolerable. Does anyone have a remedy? Maybe a setting or 2 to change on the TV, im not sure. Most of my anime dvds are movies so I never really had the fuzzy problem until this current one (Darker than Black). I also got From the New World, and it has more episodes per disk but no fuzziness.

Those discs are interlaced, which will cause various effects on modern TV'S. If it's the Crunchyroll release, they even recalled a batch due to issues.
Basically, it wasn't the best mastering of the series.
I don't think there is an easy way to fix it if you are using a standard modern TV/DVD player. If you can check the menus for the player, you want de-interlacing to be on, hopefully that helps.
Also, hard to say as you haven't mentioned, there are counterfeit versions in circulation, so it's entirely possible you have a cheaply produced batch. I don't know because you haven't given much info. Feel free to elaborate where you got the discs from etc. and if there is any info on the box that maybe can narrow it down.
If the DVD has an entire season on one disc then it's certain to be a pirate release.
I've found that if I watch a DVD rip on anything larger than a tablet, it's usually going to be too blurry for me.
