ANSWER TODAY’S QUESTION(S)
What are your thoughts on the show seemingly setting up a red herring where it seemed like nobody from Hibiki's place was the pervert only for it to be revealed Hibiki's place was where the pervert is?
What are your thoughts on anime's long, somewhat disturbing infatuation with perverts?

Welcome to the I My Me! Strawberry Eggs 25th anniversary rewatch!
^Just ^ignore ^the ^25th ^anniversary ^is ^in ^July…
Crossdressing and comedy. It has a long, storied history.
Nowadays, crossdressing in comedy is considered insensitive with accusations of it being transphobic and borderline homophobic. And while there is probably some truth to that, the reality is a lot of times it’s played with sincerity.
Some Like It Hot and Tootsie are two of the greatest comedies of all time. Mrs. Doubtfire is considered iconic and a defining part of Robin Williams legacy. All three movies play the crossdressing up for laughs but there’s quite sincerity about it to where the joke isn’t just “Lol, it’s a guy dressed as a woman”. And I think that sincerity applies to I My Me! Strawberry Eggs.
Strawberry Eggs, which is how I’ll be referring to it going forward, is very much a product of its time. It has that wacky slapstick type of humor common in anime at the time, like with shows such as Ranma and Love Hina. It also has a lot of heart that I think makes it a show worth revisiting.
This is easily the most obscure show I’ve ever hosted. I hope with this rewatch I can introduce people to this series that have never seen it before so they can become fans of it just like me. It’s been over two years since I last saw the show, so will my memory hold up or will it prove to be an outdated relic best forgotten to time? Let’s find out!
With that out of the way, let’s begin.
I’m watching the dub, by the way.
Dressing up for my work's Halloween costume contest today. I'm going as Willy Wonka. I hope I win.
Night time
Fuko all cut up
"Why do I feel like this?"
Suddenly, a creepy stalker
But Fuko thinks it's a ghost
But he escapes
Hibiki's dog trying to wake him up.
And a grenade goes off
Well, that's one way to get someone to wake up.
Gotta get ready to be a woman
Granny got this down pack
A secret underground lair
Landlord lady has seen some shit.
She reminds me of Edna Mode
Cafeteria now
The peeping tom continues to target Fuko.
"I don't mind if he's a man, but what if he's really a ghost?"
Fuko, your priorities are disconcerting.
Fujio seems to know who he is.
Kōji, Tofu, and granny eating food.
Lulu. That's granny's name.
Hibiki walking to work in high heels.
Does Lulu run a convenience story?
The guys seem to be big fans of hers.
Suddenly, Fujio
She's interrogating Hibiki's roommates.
Fujio now beating up Tofu for looking up his skirt.
Serves him right
I love Fujio lol
The girls all head off
Hibiki speaking in front of everyone.
Boy, cutting it close there
Now the principal is being informed of the peeping tom.
She wants Hibiki to stay at the dorm to watch over the young women.
Hibiki applying the makeup remover.
Fujio still targeting the old man Tofu.
Her friends are there as well
Hibiki coming to his defense
Thankfully, they don't recognize him.
It's totally Kōji, isn't it?
Hibiki and Fujio really snapping at each other.
Hibiki making a line he's telling them not to cross.
Fuko is here now, and she's insistent it's a ghost.
Hibiki gets punched for his troubles by Fujio.
I really like Fujio lol
Hibiki at the women's school
She's ready to do her protecting. As a woman, of course.
Everyone wants to talk to her
["Her"](#aliens)
Talking about her moving in
Now Hibiki is catching up with Fujio and company.
Fuko is in bed sick
They now think the long haired guy is the pervert.
Oh, the irony...
They want Hibiki to join them for the bath.
Thankfully, he knows better than to do this.
Hibiki in a dress
He pulls that look off really well.
Fujio here
Oh shit. He took off the cups :O
Fujio talking about Fuko having nightmares.
"Would you please sleep next to her to keep her company?"
Are authority figures at schools allowed to do this with students?
Hibiki now in bed with Fuko
This is awkward
At least he's not doing anything questionable.
"I did it. I ran all the way. Sensei, thank you so much."
Aww, how sweet
Suddenly, a guy
It's... Tofu...
[](#forgotkeys)
Is Tofu indeed the peeping tom?
Fuko waking up
Hibiki heading out to pursue the man.
Now all the girls are gathered together.
Fuko worried about the guys at the apartments being in trouble.
Hibiki running in a dress
Definitely can't be easy
Granny pulling out her gun
Fuko warning the tenants
The girls all break in
Tofu and Kōji... are both in on it...
Kōji says he merely finds the uniforms artistically appealing.
And that doesn't stop the girls from beating them up.
Fuko noticing that Hibiki is wearing a bra.
And so she shoves him into a bunch of boxes.
Thankfully, she doesn't know the truth.
"Geez. They're all idiots."
Ain't that right, granny. Ain't that right.
Seriously, how is Tofu and Kōji not arrested?
Hibiki walking to school with Fuko.
She asks Hibiki if all men are perverts like those two guys.
Hibiki says probably not
Well, that was a silly episode.
Overall, a bit of a mixed bag. I liked the focus on Fujio here, and I thought the bedroom scene between Hibiki and Fuko was really well done. The peeping tom stuff with Kōji and Tofu being the perverts makes me not like them, but at least they got beat up for their troubles. I dunno, it's tough knowing they're probably going to be around going forward and yet their main characteristic is they like young women's clothing. It definitely doesn't age the best.
I continue to like the little gags with Hibiki struggling to be a woman. And granny continues to be a very fun character. So far, there's definitely more to like here than there is to not like.
I think this is a middle-of-the-road type episode. If memory serves, this is probably the weakest of the bunch. Even still, it had some good moments and at least Kōji and Tofu got beat up for their troubles.
I like when shows make something so painfully obvious it's not going to go down that way only to end up playing it straight.
> What are your thoughts on anime's long, somewhat disturbing infatuation with perverts?
Thankfully, it's died down over the years.
I guess I really am fashioned, I kinda like the trope, reminds of the good ol' OG Dragon Ball days.
The worst example that comes to mind is the Love Hina Christmas special where one of the characters gets sexually harassed and the person being sexually harassed gets blamed for how she reacted to it. It's only like a 2 minute scene, but man was it rough.
Well, that's fair. It's seen negatively but sometimes there's no real consequences.
>The worst example that comes to mind is the Love Hina Christmas special where one of the characters gets sexually harassed and the person being sexually harassed gets blamed for how she reacted to it. It's only like a 2 minute scene, but man was it rough.
God dammit, I watched Love Hina like half a year ago and I do not remember that scene!
That's my problem with it, the lack of accountability.
>God dammit, I watched Love Hina like half a year ago and I do not remember that scene!
It was one of the hour long OVAs.
Damn, you really do plan things way ahead of time! So... Did you win?
>I dunno, it's tough knowing they're probably going to be around going forward and yet their main characteristic is they like young women's clothing. It definitely doesn't age the best.
See, I wouldn't say this hasn't aged well because of them. They're being beaten up for their trouble, so I feel like they could get away with the same antics today, as long as they're still punished for it.
>I continue to like the little gags with Hibiki struggling to be a woman. And granny continues to be a very fun character. So far, there's definitely more to like here than there is to not like.
Yup, very much enjoying this still, granny still being my favorite character so far.
>I think this is a middle-of-the-road type episode. If memory serves, this is probably the weakest of the bunch
If this is the worst, I'm really looking forward to the rest of the episodes, I really enjoy this type of comedy.
I won the residents vote but not the online vote.
>See, I wouldn't say this hasn't aged well because of them. They're being beaten up for their trouble, so I feel like they could get away with the same antics today, as long as they're still punished for it.
That's true. I do like them getting beat up lol
>Yup, very much enjoying this still, granny still being my favorite character so far.
Same. She's this perfect mix of chaotic and helpful.
>If this is the worst, I'm really looking forward to the rest of the episodes, I really enjoy this type of comedy.
Even this episode isn't all too terrible.
Close enough! Was there a prize for that?
>That's true. I do like them getting beat up lol
That's the best part!
>Same. She's this perfect mix of chaotic and helpful.
I thought it was funny how she was also selling answers to quizzes lol.
>Even this episode isn't all too terrible.
Yeah, I thought it was pretty good!
I won a skeleton trophy.
It's actually the third year in a row I won.
>That's the best part!
Without a doubt
>I thought it was funny how she was also selling answers to quizzes lol.
Yeah, the students seem to actually like her which is fun.
>Yeah, I thought it was pretty good!
I really liked the Hibiki and Fuko stuff
>It's actually the third year in a row I won.
That's pretty cool! What were you dressed as the precious years?
>Yeah, the students seem to actually like her which is fun.
Was pretty unexpected, usually this kind of granny is a menace to everyone, especially the kids!
A hot dog and Beetlejuice lol
>Was pretty unexpected, usually this kind of granny is a menace to everyone, especially the kids!
She's only a menace to those who don't pay rent, it seems lol
Beetlejuice is cool, but how'd you win as a hot dog?!
>She's only a menace to those who don't pay rent, it seems lol
My cheap ass would be so screwed.
Because I've got the buns that makes me number one [](#whowouldathunkit)
>My cheap ass would be so screwed.
Same here [](#watashiworried)
Oh my.
>What are your thoughts on the show seemingly setting up a red herring where it seemed like nobody from Hibiki's place was the pervert only for it to be revealed Hibiki's place was where the pervert is?
I really didn't think it was the old guy lol. My thought process was that it would be too obvious, and he was already openly being a pervert, so why would he hide? Guess I was wrong.
>What are your thoughts on anime's long, somewhat disturbing infatuation with perverts?
Call me old fashioned, I find it funny lol. I'm of the opinion that in anime, anything goes.
On to the episode!
I definitely like the OP, feels very nostalgic even though it's my first time watching this.
Looks like we have a peeping tom on our hands. I don't think it's gonna be Hibiki.
I really like the old lady, but I do feel bad for anyone living under her rule lol.
Damn, Hibiki's gonna move into the dorm? There's no way that's gonna go well.
Of course they had to ask she-Hibiki to join them in the bath, because why wouldn't they?
Oh my fuck, he forgot one of his boobs hahaha!
Very dangerous position for him to be in, sleeping with the student. Though he behave, so we'll see where things go from here.
Goddamn, I didn't expect the most obvious suspect to actually be the culprit lol.
ED isn't bad either, but I prefer the OP.
Another very fun episode!
I kinda like when shows make something super obvious only to go with the obvious option. It's like a bait and switch on a bait and switch.
>Call me old fashioned, I find it funny lol. I'm of the opinion that in anime, anything goes.
Fair enough. I think there's a right way and a wrong way to do it. If it's the same joke over and over again, it quickly grows tiresome.
>I definitely like the OP, feels very nostalgic even though it's my first time watching this.
It's like being transported back into 2001.
>Looks like we have a peeping tom on our hands. I don't think it's gonna be Hibiki.
And it wasn't. Thankfully.
>I really like the old lady, but I do feel bad for anyone living under her rule lol.
For real
>Damn, Hibiki's gonna move into the dorm? There's no way that's gonna go well.
It's less he moved and more he stuck around for a little while longer.
>Of course they had to ask she-Hibiki to join them in the bath, because why wouldn't they?
Good thing he passed on that
>Oh my fuck, he forgot one of his boobs hahaha!
He still has a ways to learn
>Very dangerous position for him to be in, sleeping with the student. Though he behave, so we'll see where things go from here.
I thought the kind words Fuko had for him was very sweet.
>Goddamn, I didn't expect the most obvious suspect to actually be the culprit lol.
And I like that he was more interested in the dresses than the girls. That to me was the funny part.
>ED isn't bad either, but I prefer the OP.
I think I still prefer the ED personally
>Another very fun episode!
I liked the previous episode more, but this definitely wasn't bad. The whole peeping tom stuff for what it was had its share of humorous moments.
**Edit**: Had to combine something because one of the other comments got nuked. That's why the thread kinda looks like a mess.
Probably. Now I'm thinking. Have I ever gotten tired of a Tsundere doing tsundere things?
I cannot imagine how it would've gone if he hadn't... Now I'm curious.
>I thought the kind words Fuko had for him was very sweet.
It was, which is why I hope he doesn't become interested in her! Let it be a wholesome kind of "relationship"!
>And I like that he was more interested in the dresses than the girls. That to me was the funny part.
Well, that was the Salaryman, the old guy was just a regular old pervert lol.
>I think I still prefer the ED personally
It wasn't bad either.
>I liked the previous episode more, but this definitely wasn't bad. The whole peeping tom stuff for ehat it was had its share of humorous moments.
Hmm I'm not sure which I preferred, I'm happy with both episodes.
I guess he could say he wears a push up bra.
>It was, which is why I hope he doesn't become interested in her! Let it be a wholesome kind of "relationship"!
Indeed
>Well, that was the Salaryman, the old guy was just a regular old pervert lol.
The old guy I believe was just helping out, but maybe I'm wrong.
>It wasn't bad either.
Not at all
>Hmm I'm not sure which I preferred, I'm happy with both episodes.
This one at least built upon the last episode it felt like.
Yeah, I was more curious about his dangling member than the lack of volume in the chest area...
>The old guy I believe was just helping out, but maybe I'm wrong.
He was the one in the tree though, so he was **the** peeping Tom!
>This one at least built upon the last episode it felt like.
Which makes sense considering it's episode 2!
I just foolishly assume he would be wearing swimwear lol
>He was the one in the tree though, so he was **the** peeping Tom!
But he was doing that to help out Kōji
>Which makes sense considering it's episode 2!
You'd be surprised. Some shows don't show continuity this early on.
Are you new to anime?!
>But he was doing that to help out Kōji
I meeeean... He's an old pervert though, I'm sure it didn't take a lot to convince him!
>You'd be surprised. Some shows don't show continuity this early on.
Fair enough!
I know, I know. I should've known better.
>I meeeean... He's an old pervert though, I'm sure it didn't take a lot to convince him!
I assume they're very close friends
>Fair enough!
We're already referencing events from the first episode!

What are your thoughts on Fuko being concerned not if the peeping tom was a man, but if it was a ghost?
Thoughts on us finding out Lulu runs a convenience store?
Thoughts on Fujio and her suspecting Hibiki's roommates as being the peeping toms?

What are your thoughts on the reveal that Tofu and Kōji are the peeping toms but Kōji was only after the girls uniforms?
What are your thoughts on Tofu and Kōji getting beat up by everyone?
What are your thoughts on Fuko finding Hibiki wearing a bra not knowing that's the same Hibiki that's her teacher?
>Thoughts on Fuko thinking the vouyer is a ghost?
I've recently watched Cardcaptor Sakura, so that reminded me a lot of Sakura haha!
>Thoughts on Lulu waking Hibiki up via a grenade?
That was hilarious. Granny truly is a menace!
>Thoughts on Lulu having a secret underground lair?
Not at all surprised considering she built the voice changer. And god knows what else.
>What are your thoughts on Fuko being concerned not if the peeping tom was a man, but if it was a ghost?
Again, reminded me a lot of Sakura. Obviously nonsensical, but it's one of those tropes I always find funny too.
>Thoughts on Fujio and her suspecting Hibiki's roommates as being the peeping toms?
Turns out she was right all along. Should consider a career as a detective.
>Thoughts on Hibiki getting punched by Fujio?
Expected better from a PE teacher.
>Thoughts on the girls at the school all wanting to bond with Hibiki sensei?
Was surprised by how liked he was by everyone. I didn't think he'd be that popular.
>What are your thoughts on Hibiki sleeping next to Fuko because she's having nightmares?
He's entered a very dangerous territory.
>What are your thoughts on Fuko finding Hibiki wearing a bra not knowing that's the same Hibiki that's her teacher?
Oh yeah I forgot about that, it was funny! I wonder how she's gonna react after she realises he is who he is lol
Fair enough lol
>I've recently watched Cardcaptor Sakura, so that reminded me a lot of Sakura haha!
I need to get around to watching that
>That was hilarious. Granny truly is a menace!
Gotta work hard for the money
>Not at all surprised considering she built the voice changer. And god knows what else.
I'm surprised she's not a millionaire
>Again, reminded me a lot of Sakura. Obviously nonsensical, but it's one of those tropes I always find funny too.
It was a funny moment for her character that felt in line with her.
>Turns out she was right all along. Should consider a career as a detective.
Women's intuition
>Expected better from a PE teacher.
She caught her off guard
>Was surprised by how liked he was by everyone. I didn't think he'd be that popular.
Kindness goes a long way
>He's entered a very dangerous territory.
Very riding the line
>Oh yeah I forgot about that, it was funny! I wonder how she's gonna react after she realises he is who he is lol
Probably won't be too pleased if I hazard a guess.
It was a semi-rewatch for me since I watched part of it on TV as a kid, it was actually pretty good! Sucks that there's an unfinished sequel from 2018, the second part was announced like 3 or 4 years ago, but no news since...
>I'm surprised she's not a millionaire
Is that a spoiler? Because I assumed she was a secret millionaire!
>She caught her off guard
No excuses!
>Kindness goes a long way
It only goes so far though. He's lucky he's hot as a woman!
>Probably won't be too pleased if I hazard a guess.
Definitely won't!
Well, never say never
>Is that a spoiler? Because I assumed she was a secret millionaire!
She reminds me of Edna Mode
>No excuses!
Gotta stay alert at all times [](#mugistronk)
>It only goes so far though. He's lucky he's hot as a woman!
As I said in my initial thoughts, would.
>Definitely won't!
I don't know how I'd feel in her shoes
Is that another spoiler? Is this really a sequel?
>As I said in my initial thoughts, would.
You do you!
>I don't know how I'd feel in her shoes
Yeah, trying to picture myself in a similar situation and I can't help but feel disturbed lol.
I'm talking about The Incredibles :P
>You do you!
He really does look fantastic
>Yeah, trying to picture myself in a similar situation and I can't help but feel disturbed lol.
I'd be like "Well... okay then..."
I know, I was making a joke about how granny was an older version of Edna!
>He really does look fantastic
Yeeeah, but I don't like the dangling bits :(
>I'd be like "Well... okay then..."
Still would though.
An older version? Lol
Funny enough, Edna in The Incredibles was voiced by a guy.
>Yeeeah, but I don't like the dangling bits :(
~~Well, they can always chop those off~~
>Still would though.
Oh, for sure. Even as a guy not dressed as a woman, Hibiki is pretty handsome.
I think it's cool we're learning more about Fuko's friends. I imagine this trend will continue with her two other ones.
I’m still recovering from the plot being a man crossdressing just to teach at a school so he can pay rent and also grandma is packing and the principal thinks men can’t love, but fuck it, we ball, I’m rolling with it.
I feel like there used to be at least one (1) episode that focused on a peeping tom or some Pervert of the Week, and the protagonists had to take down the mofo or clear their names. It was a strong presence.
Hibiki is an odd but good-hearted dude.
***
**QotD**
1. I overthought the whole thing. Who’s that peeping on ***high school girls?*** It was ~~Agatha~~ Old Dude all along.
2. In my youth, this coupled with some other troubling old school tropes is what made both my bio dad and uncle hesitate with having me pick out my anime independently. I understand. I can’t speak on domestic fan groups outside of a few friends who are domestic anime fans, but internationally, it seems that my corner of the internet has been more critical or makes it a more controversial topic with exaggerated perversion for comedy, especially when the victims are minors and the perpetrators are adults. I’m relieved that the anime I watch doesn’t really have it in spades or it’s a lot more subtle, even if it gets old quickly.
>I’m still recovering from the plot being a man crossdressing just to teach at a school so he can pay rent and also grandma is packing and the principal thinks men can’t love, but fuck it, we ball, I’m rolling with it.
I like how committed the show is with the premise.
>I feel like there used to be at least one (1) episode that focused on a peeping tom or some Pervert of the Week, and the protagonists had to take down the mofo or clear their names. It was a strong presence.
It's kinda ballsy to have our introduction to presumably a couple reoccurring characters being them as perverts.
>1. I overthought the whole thing. Who’s that peeping on ***high school girls?*** It was ~~Agatha~~ Old Dude all along.
Old dude was his accomplice
>2. In my youth, this coupled with some other troubling old school tropes is what made both my bio dad and uncle hesitate with having me pick out my anime independently. I understand. I feel like in America this sort of thing is looked down upon.
>Hibiki is an odd but good-hearted dude.
I really liked how he handled Fuko this episode. He was helpful, but not weird about it. When someone that young asks to sleep with you, that can be super awkward. And he handled it about as well as he could've.
I dunno why the teenagers are allowed to sleep at school, tho. Unless I misunderstood what was happening.

Old dude was his accomplice
>2. In my youth, this coupled with some other troubling old school tropes is what made both my bio dad and uncle hesitate with having me pick out my anime independently. I understand.
I feel like in America this sort of thing is looked down upon.
Thoughts on Fuko thinking the vouyer is a ghost?
Thoughts on Lulu waking Hibiki up via a grenade?
Thoughts on Lulu having a secret underground lair?
What are your thoughts on Fuko being concerned not if the peeping tom was a man, but if it was a ghost?
Thoughts on us finding out Lulu runs a convenience store?
Thoughts on Fujio and her suspecting Hibiki's roommates as being the peeping toms?
Thoughts on Hibiki getting punched by Fujio?
Thoughts on the girls at the school all wanting to bond with Hibiki sensei?
What are your thoughts on Hibiki sleeping next to Fuko because she's having nightmares?
What are your thoughts on Fuko thanking Hibiki for helping her last episode?
What are your thoughts on the reveal that Tofu and Kōji are the peeping toms but Kōji was only after the girls uniforms?
What are your thoughts on Tofu and Kōji getting beat up by everyone?
What are your thoughts on Fuko finding Hibiki wearing a bra not knowing that's the same Hibiki that's her teacher?
2. You know what, I’d think that too.
3. Why 😭
4. Who exactly is this woman, did she breach from Black Lagoon or something?? Something tells me she’d like Revy.
5. What happened in her life that she’s a paranormal girlie?
6. I would too, to be honest.
7. Please see answer 6.
8. She sees her sensei as a safe comforting figure in her life.
9. I mean, she thanked Hibiki. Hibiki is the only one who didn’t snap at her, actually helped her, and wanted her to succeed on her own time.
10.
11. 💀
12. A dude wearing a bra is just…a dude wearing a bra. But for the bit and given the time period, yeah, I expected her reaction.
She might be her grandma, honestly
>5. What happened in her life that she’s a paranormal girlie?
It's more so she's a scardy cat
>8. She sees her sensei as a safe comforting figure in her life.
Good for her
> 9. I mean, she thanked Hibiki. Hibiki is the only one who didn’t snap at her, actually helped her, and wanted her to succeed on her own time.
He gave her support when no one else would.
>12. A dude wearing a bra is just…a dude wearing a bra. But for the bit and given the time period, yeah, I expected her reaction.
It's a very embarrassing situation to be in
I really liked how he handled Fuko this episode. He was helpful, but not weird about it. When someone that young asks to sleep with you, that can be super awkward. And he handled it about as well as he could've.
I dunno why the teenagers are allowed to sleep at school, tho. Unless I misunderstood what was happening.
I don’t think I mentioned it last time but I really like the OP here. I find it very calm and soothing.
So the catalyst of today’s episode is someone creeping on Fuko in her room. I doubt it’s Hibiki. And that old guy who lives in the same building doesn’t look strong enough. So by process of elimination it’s probably that other guy who lives with them. Either that or a completely new character.
I can’t say this enough but I love Lulu. She’s really funny, I just really like tough, crazy old ladies.
Also, her character design definitely feels like a bit of a relic. I feel like the standard design of old people as tiny in anime isn’t as common as it used to be anymore, it was mostly phased out after the ‘90s.
The only modern anime that still do that are mostly just remakes and reboots of older shows or, for some reason, Frieren.
Lulu also apparently has a secret lair under her home. I have not ruled out Lulu being an ex-secret agent yet.
How old is Fuko supposed to be anyway? She looks younger than her friends. So either she skipped a grade (which I doubted because, no offense to Fuko, but she doesn’t seem very bright) or she just looks young for her age.
Apparently Lulu also just lets people cut through her house to get to school? I think that’s the weirdest thing about the anime so far.
I know Fujio and her friends are being portrayed as unreasonable here, but I get where they’re coming from. I’d be super suspicious of the men who lived nearby too if I were in their shoes. (Also the end of the episode shows that she was totally right to be so paranoid and distrustful too)
I do think it’s funny how Fuko’s caught up on her ghost theory this whole time. She’s reminding me of Shaggy from Scooby Doo.
Okay I am seriously uncomfortable with the weird romance angle between Fuko and Hibiki. Not just because of the age gap and power dynamic (although that is a big part) but especially because of the fact that Fuko is explicitly portrayed as less mature than her friends. Just makes the thing seem creepier.
The fact that Hibiki seems equally uncomfortable with the situation though has me hoping that maybe at least this is just going to be a one sided crush on Fuko’s side.
So both the other guys at the apartment were in on it. Yeah I don’t like either of them.
I don’t think I mentioned the ending song before either but it’s definitely pretty fun.
**Questions of the Day:**
**What are your thoughts on the show seemingly setting up a red herring where it seemed like nobody from Hibiki's place was the pervert only for it to be revealed Hibiki's place was where the pervert is?**
I mean I never totally bought it. I only assumed the old guy wasn't in on it but he totally was. Really I should have known better. I always suspected the other guy though.
**What are your thoughts on anime's long, somewhat disturbing infatuation with perverts?**
I blame Go Nagai.
Serious answer time though, I think the idea of anime being more perverted than other types of media is a bit overstated. Looking at American media for a second, look at the large array of poorly aged sex comedy films from the '80s like Porky's or Revenge of the Nerds. Or at how most female superheroes are typically drawn in comic books.
Anyway when it comes to pervert characters in anime though I don't like them. But I tend not to like them in most media. The two guys in this episode I find particularly gross.
Yeah, it's quite nice
>So the catalyst of today’s episode is someone creeping on Fuko in her room. I doubt it’s Hibiki. And that old guy who lives in the same building doesn’t look strong enough. So by process of elimination it’s probably that other guy who lives with them. Either that or a completely new character.
Turns out the old guy was in it all along
>I can’t say this enough but I love Lulu. She’s really funny, I just really like tough, crazy old ladies.
She's definitely crazy, that's for true
>Also, her character design definitely feels like a bit of a relic. I feel like the standard design of old people as tiny in anime isn’t as common as it used to be anymore, it was mostly phased out after the ‘90s.
It definitely feels Master Roshi inspired.
>The only modern anime that still do that are mostly just remakes and reboots of older shows or, for some reason, Frieren.
I like that Frieren does it
>Lulu also apparently has a secret lair under her home. I have not ruled out Lulu being an ex-secret agent yet.
I mean, she could be
>How old is Fuko supposed to be anyway? She looks younger than her friends. So either she skipped a grade (which I doubted because, no offense to Fuko, but she doesn’t seem very bright) or she just looks young for her age.
I think she's supposed to be like 15 or 16
>Apparently Lulu also just lets people cut through her house to get to school? I think that’s the weirdest thing about the anime so far.
Even weirder than the secret lair? Lol
>I know Fujio and her friends are being portrayed as unreasonable here, but I get where they’re coming from. I’d be super suspicious of the men who lived nearby too if I were in their shoes. (Also the end of the episode shows that she was totally right to be so paranoid and distrustful too)
It's cool to get a character who's like Lulu but younger.
>I do think it’s funny how Fuko’s caught up on her ghost theory this whole time. She’s reminding me of Shaggy from Scooby Doo.
To me, that's more of an insult than anything XD
>Okay I am seriously uncomfortable with the weird romance angle between Fuko and Hibiki. At least Hibiki is trying to be supportive while not making any moves. That's nice.
>The fact that Hibiki seems equally uncomfortable with the situation though has me hoping that maybe at least this is just going to be a one sided crush on Fuko’s side.
Here's hoping 🙏
>So both the other guys at the apartment were in on it. Yeah I don’t like either of them.
I do like at least it's framed that the interest is in the design of the clothing. That's kinda funny.
>I don’t think I mentioned the ending song before either but it’s definitely pretty fun.
I like it more than the intro, in all honesty.
>**Questions of the Day:**
>I mean I never totally bought it. I only assumed the old guy wasn't in on it but he totally was. Really I should have known better. I always suspected the other guy though.
It's kinda crazy that this is how we're introduced to them. Talk about a bad first impression.
>I blame Go Nagai.
The name sounds familiar
>Serious answer time though, I think the idea of anime being more perverted than other types of media is a bit overstated. I think the difference is in Western media, the boys perv on girls their own age. That isn't always the case in anime.
>Anyway when it comes to pervert characters in anime though I don't like them. But I tend not to like them in most media. The two guys in this episode I find particularly gross.
Well, at least they get tossed around for their troubles, so there's that.
I forgot that in comedy anime there's like a 50/50 chance of an old guy being a pervert or not.
>It definitely feels Master Roshi inspired.
Lulu reminds me more of Cologne from Ranma 1/2.
>I think she's supposed to be like 15 or 16
Guess that makes sense. Just vaugely high school aged.
>It's cool to get a character who's like Lulu but younger.
Fujio is definitely the most memorable of all of Fuko's friends.
>To me, that's more of an insult than anything XD
I mean it as a compliment, I love Shaggy.
>At least Hibiki is trying to be supportive while not making any moves. That's nice.
Yeah he's basically reverse Great Teacher Onizuka right now.
>I do like at least it's framed that the interest is in the design of the clothing. That's kinda funny.
I somehow doubt they were being honest.
>It's kinda crazy that this is how we're introduced to them. Talk about a bad first impression.
Technically we met them last episode when Lulu collected the rent from them.
>The name sounds familiar
He's the guy who created Devilman, Cutey Honey, and Kekko Kamen. Among many others.
Here at least he's like the henchmen it seems.
>Lulu reminds me more of Cologne from Ranma 1/2.
I can see that as well.
To me, she comes off like a cross between Edna Mode and Turbo Granny.
>Guess that makes sense. Just vaugely high school aged.
The best kind of high school age :P
>Fujio is definitely the most memorable of all of Fuko's friends.
So far, at least
>I mean it as a compliment, I love Shaggy.
Oh, my bad. I misread your comment. I thought you said Scrappy XD
>Yeah he's basically reverse Great Teacher Onizuka right now.
That implies the teacher hit all the moves. Which I assume he did hence why you mentioned dropping it lol
>I somehow doubt they were being honest.
Well, you never know. This show is quite eccentric.
>Technically we met them last episode when Lulu collected the rent from them.
True, but this is the first time they've really been involved in the show.
>He's the guy who created Devilman, Cutey Honey, and Kekko Kamen. Among many others.
I feel like I'm still missing something.
Oh yeah, I definitely see the resemblance to Edna Mode.
>That implies the teacher hit all the moves. Which I assume he did hence why you mentioned dropping it lol
One of these days I'll try to actually finish GTO. People tell me it's good.
>I feel like I'm still missing something.
Well basically Go Nagai was very prolific for making lots of anime/manga in the 1970s that featured way more sex and violence than most other manga did at the time.
All that's missing is her yelling no capes lol
>One of these days I'll try to actually finish GTO. People tell me it's good.
I haven't seen it, actually, so I can't say one way or the other.
>Well basically Go Nagai was very prolific for making lots of anime/manga in the 1970s that featured way more sex and violence than most other manga did at the time.
Ah, I see.
Devilman is held in high regard I feel like.
I've been meaning to check out Devilman, I hear it's really good.
Cutey Honey is pretty well regarded too. It even got a really good reboot in 2004 that Hideaki Anno worked on.
He also created Mazinger Z which I haven't seen but I hear was super influential to the mecha genre
Same here. And then there's Devilman Crybaby which people also rave about.
>Cutey Honey is pretty well regarded too. It even got a really good reboot in 2004 that Hideaki Anno worked on.
Which should tell you everything, really. Someone as respected as Anno worked on the remake.
>He also created Mazinger Z which I haven't seen but I hear was super influential to the mecha genre
Yeah, it feels like he was a real trendsetter.

Not a fan of this peeping subplot
>Thoughts on Fuko thinking the vouyer is a ghost?
Again, very Scooby-Doo of her.
>Thoughts on Lulu waking Hibiki up via a grenade?
>Thoughts on Lulu having a secret underground lair?
Lulu is unhinged. I love it.
>What are your thoughts on Fuko being concerned not if the peeping tom was a man, but if it was a ghost?
The ghost thing is a pretty funny subplot
>Thoughts on us finding out Lulu runs a convenience store?
It's a good side hustle
>Thoughts on Fujio and her suspecting Hibiki's roommates as being the peeping toms?
She has good instincts and/or basic common sense
>Thoughts on Hibiki getting punched by Fujio?
Feels like a very of its time gag
>Thoughts on the girls at the school all wanting to bond with Hibiki sensei?
I t hink that's sweet
>What are your thoughts on Hibiki sleeping next to Fuko because she's having nightmares?
I'm glad they make it clear that Hibiki is uncomfortable with the closeness to Fuko
>What are your thoughts on Fuko thanking Hibiki for helping her last episode?
That's nice of her
>What are your thoughts on the reveal that Tofu and Kōji are the peeping toms but Kōji was only after the girls uniforms?
I don't believe Koji.
>What are your thoughts on Tofu and Kōji getting beat up by everyone?
Good.
>What are your thoughts on Fuko finding Hibiki wearing a bra not knowing that's the same Hibiki that's her teacher?
Classic misunderstanding.
At least it's just the one episode
>Again, very Scooby-Doo of her.
Oh, now I get the Shaggy comparison lol
>Lulu is unhinged. I love it.
She adds a ton of personality to this show.
>The ghost thing is a pretty funny subplot
Fuko might be a bit out there
>It's a good side hustle
I suppose
>She has good instincts and/or basic common sense
She put two and two together rather easily.
>Feels like a very of its time gag
Except he wasn't her crush lol
>I t hink that's sweet
Even if it puts Hibiki in an unfair position
>I'm glad they make it clear that Hibiki is uncomfortable with the closeness to Fuko
Yeah, that was well done
>That's nice of her
You can tell she really admires Hibiki
>I don't believe Koji.
I think it'd be funnier if he was telling the truth
>Good.
Well deserved
>Classic misunderstanding.
I wonder if it'll lead to anything
Yeah but those two are recurring guys characters now.
>Except he wasn't her crush lol
True but it's the whole "mistaken for a pervert and getting beaten up" gag.
Well, if the idea is they'll be thwarted in their attempts then I'll be fine with it I feel like.
>True but it's the whole "mistaken for a pervert and getting beaten up" gag.
Ah, that is right. I hadn't thought of it like that. Except Fujio thought Kōji was the pervert.
Interestingly, in the first episode, I felt that the girls’ views on boys—including the principal’s—were too extreme. They looked at the opposite sex as if they were “wolves.” Which I found a bit strange. But now, everything makes sense. Two of the three adult men currently living there have a habit of spying on female students, and one of them made our Fuko cry! Interestingly, at first, both Hibiki and I believed them. Episodes 1 and 2 nicely portrayed the school and societal context—the man you spend every day with might secretly be a pervert! But I prefer Hibiki's answer: not all men are like that! Episode 3 should introduce formal PE classes and how Hibiki turns things around.
ANSWER TODAY’S QUESTION(S)
What are your thoughts on the show seemingly setting up a red herring where it seemed like nobody from Hibiki's place was the pervert only for it to be revealed Hibiki's place was where the pervert is?
This naturally explains the principal's and students' views on men.
What are your thoughts on anime's long, somewhat disturbing infatuation with perverts?
The popularity of harem anime in the early 2000s leaves me with no doubt about this premise. While the anime may appear to be a gender-swapped version of a harem, at its core is quite interesting: a teacher trying to help a student who is struggling!

It almost feels like the principal may have a point after all.
>This naturally explains the principal's and students' views on men.
No kidding. I'm not sure how I feel about that.
>The popularity of harem anime in the early 2000s leaves me with no doubt about this premise. While the anime may appear to be a gender-swapped version of a harem, at its core is quite interesting: a teacher trying to help a student who is struggling!
I feel like it started long before harem anime was popular. Like in the mid 1980s.
Me too!:D
I don’t have time today—I need to finish my review of episode 3 and then go to sleep. I’ll answer your question later.
