5 CM per second, if you’ve ever had an unholy fumble in your life this movie is gonna hit you like a truck, but I think everyone who’s ever fumbled should see it especially if they’re feeling a little down about it
Elena_652026-01-03 17:39
Is it a movie?

>is not slice of life
From your examples in your post, i thought you wanted romance and/or drama only.
The ones you mentioned aren't slice of life.

My list of romance anime, but only those that are slice of life:
Kimagure Orange Road (10/10) - A classic 80's romcom about a love triangle, and it has one of the earliest (and in my opinion greatest and most nuanced) tsundere love interests in anime.
Your Lie in April (10/10) - a very tragic but extremely beautiful love story between two teenage musicians. Will make you cry.
Teasing Master Takagi-san (9,5/10) - one of the most wholesome and cutest but at the same time funniest romcoms ever made. It is quite episodic, with a lot of episodes being divided into short stories, but most of the independent episodes are somewhat connected and there's a sense of progress and development despite the episodic nature of the show.
Clannad (9,5/10) - starts as a fairly typical high-school harem romance with some fantasy/paranormal elements, but by the sequel, After Story, the main couple gets together and we get to see the struggles and challenges of a young adult couple, and stuff happens that will make you cry.
Love, Chubibyo and other delusions (9/10) - A very cute and funny romcom with some drama in it. A high school student who wants to get over his middle-school obsession for acting-up like an action anime character, meets a classmate that is very much living fully in her own imaginary world. It's a great story about the push and pull between wanting to grow up, but not letting go of your child-like imagination, and the main couple's relationship is adorable.
The Angel Next Door Spoils Me Rotten (8,5/10) - together with Takagi-san, one of the most diabetic romances I've ever seen, but with less comedy, more of a pure romance, and I love it for that. And, while we are going to get a season 2 next year, this one reaches a very satifying conclusion in the 1st season with just 12 episodes.
Fruits Basket: (8/10): (female protagonist) a romance anime that may look like a reverse harem, but actually is more of a love triangle.
Ai Yori Aoshi (8/10) - a harem where the main couple gets together very early, but has to keep their relationship a secret, thus giving space for the harem situation to develop. If you want the trope of a perfect traditional japanese wife, I haven't come across a better example than the main girl in this anime, but she still has a fairly interesting and headstrong personality. The second season doesn't give us a satisfying conclusion, which is regrettable, but along the way there's still quite some progress with the main couple. In my opinion, there are many similarities to Love Hina in the way it handles the harem aspects, but I do prefer Ai Yori Aoshi, since it has a slightly more serious tone while still being a harem romcom.
Alya Sometimes Hides Her Feelings in Russian (7,5/10): a romcom with a pretty fun premise and a very genre-aware humor, and overt fan-service without being ecchi, it is almost a harem, but with a very clear main romance. It has two main plots, the romance and the school council election, and I personally felt like the first season, while getting some progress in both, it wasn't enough for a satisfying season. Hoping to get more from Season 2, since it was a very wild and entertaining watch.
Skip and Loafer (7,5/10): (female protagonist) a tame but sweet slice of life with important romance. Not extremely exciting, but for a chill, relaxed watch, still a very nice romance.
Love Hina (7,5/10): a classic harem where the protagonist tries to find a childhood crush to fulfill a promise to go to university together.
Mother of the Goddess Dormitory (7/10): Extreme amounts of ecchi fan service, and a very questionable age-gap (but with the male protagonist being the youngest). Still, if you are able to forget about the age gap, and enjoy the ecchi fan service, it is not a bad harem romance, the interactions between the characters are actually quite sweet.
School Days (6/10): one of the most hated romance animes ever, I think. And I get why: it is what would happen if protagonist who is a bad person with 0 redeeming qualities and no redemption arc got a harem of girls, who are, to varying degrees, bad people themselves. It is an uncomfortable watch, but because I believe that was the intention of the anime, I still give it some credit for achieving the goal of making the watcher uncomfortable.

I mean, it depends what are you in the mood for? Of the ones you have watched, I only know Clannad and Your Lie in April are super sad.
Do you want something sad? Kimagure Orange Road the main series is not sad, it is quite lighthearted while still being emotional and romantic at times. The first movie (that goes after the series), however, is quite sad, not Your Lie in April levels sad, but it is probably the saddest thing after YLIA and Clannad on that list. However, two things you have to keep in mind: the series is quite episodic, so it may feel like it is going nowhere (but there's very subtle progress), and it is an 80's anime, I personally love the artstyle and animation in it, but if you are used to more modern anime, you may find it hard to adjust.
Fruits Basket has some dramatic and sad moments and backstory too. Is Elena your name? If so, you are female, right? Well, if you want a female-lead and female-targeted romance, Fruits Basket is very good.
If you want something that is not sad, but still very emotional in a romantic way, I'd recommend something like Teasing Master Takagi-san, Love, Chunibiyo and other Delusions or The Angel Next Door Spoils Me Rotten. Teasing Master Takagi-san is also very episodic, but just like with KOR, there's subtle progress, and it is genuinely one of the funniest and sweetest romcoms ever. Chunibiyo is also super cute and funny, but has a more linear story, and has some more drama in it than Takagi-san. But if you want pure romance and almost no comedy, The Angel Next Door is the way to go, it is very diabetic, but it works really well, technically it is getting a second season next spring, but the 12 episode first season has a very satisfying ending.

Then I'll probably go with Angel next door for now..
Thank you for the suggestions 🌺
