2025's biggest anime joke(s)
With the year 2025 over and 2026 just getting started, let's take a look back what were the biggest anime jokes from that year. Bad or disappointing anime from that year that left you shaking your head or laughing at how bad it got. Here I my three candidates:
**The Beginning After the End**: An overhyped anime that had quite a lot going for it only it to become the poster child for bad animation. Or the alternative name being the Power Point presentation anime.
**One Punch Man Season 3**: I'll be brief here, because this season got COOKED. Our expectations were already pretty low, but we were still left disappointed. And the studio had the gall to announce a part 2.
**Uzamaki**: Going from 100 to 0 in just a single episode. I've never seen an anime have such a sharp decline in quality in such a short amount of time. Seriously that's insane.
Overall, 2025 was a pretty great year. Saying as some who's watched over 50 anime from that year. But's there's no denying that there were some bombs. Par for the course in entertainment. But what was biggest jokes in anime from 2025 for you?

That's not how it works.
Uzumaki was 2024.
there’s a few more that came out in 2023 but 2024 and 2025 only had 4 anime total I would describe as anything but “decent”. I doubt TBATE would’ve been any different even if they got it perfect. For reference the 4 anime are zenshu, wrong way to use healing magic, dahlia in bloom, villainess lv99. The ladder 2 are probably only because I had a strong inclination towards the genres when I watched them.
[TBATE spoiler] >!I didn’t see him getting separated from his parents coming but that already happened I’m jobless reincarnation, I wasn’t expecting Sylvia to be a dragon but it was obvious she was gonna die. The elf was obviously Royalty I knew that from the moment she was introduced. The grandfather was obviously gonna be his master. Didn’t know what was causing him pain but it was obviously from Sylvia. Using little known knowledge to unlock/teach someone magic is pretty common trope, meeting a king is pretty common although the way of meeting and how it resolved was unique, going off on his own to become a adventurer is common but having a guide of sorts from his parents is slightly rare but I’ve seen it before, I didn’t see it but a magic academy arc is a classic!<
I haven't watched any american fantasy except for the most mainstream stuff, maybe I really should expand my range for entertainment more.
Anyways, unrelated but go watch Furiosa if you haven't. The way the movie teaches you the story of the characters through action sequences and how fleshed out their strategy are is mindblowing.
Edit: I would also like to add "My status as an assassin obviously exceeds the hero".
It's a shame because the story is pretty cool but the pacing makes it extremely hard to follow sometimes
Ninja vs Gokudo dub
Ninja vs Gokudo dub
it starts off very mushoku tensei inspired but it does quickly do it's own thing and is pretty great. it is still power fantasy ultimately so if you dislike that genre maybe you wouldn't be a fan, but i still really liked it (up till I stopped reading around volume 7 I think)
My Status as Assassin had a shit source material that got handled by a good production, but after episode 1 it got bad as well.
I Want to Escape Princess Lessons. 12 episodes of gaslighting the main heroine into loving her psychotic fiancé.
**Uglymug, Epicfighter:** The opposite of what TWM was described as being, with the MC being extremely OP from the get-go. I actually don't mind this isekai trope either. Eminence in Shadow and Overlord have shown that it's possible to have an entertaining and interesting story without the MC having to train from level 1, so I was keen to see how Uglymug would fair. The MC is a social recluse accused of SA with his life ruined who is extremely ugly, so what happens if they become even uglier but are essentially a godly deity in a new world? Sadly, it's not really explored in much depth at all. He doesn't seek justice nor displays any anger outside the opening scenes. He trusts his companions fully, never questioning their intentions. He essentially becomes their guardian, fully benevolent and all. His decision to cripple his existence so drastically in this new world that it awards him the title of being essentially a 'God' is quickly turned into a running gag that becomes old very quickly. The MC just feels super shallow and the overall plot boring.
Everyone in this sucked and I wanted the neglected daughter of the brother to turn evil and kill everyone
