Looking for Anime recommendations

I just finished The Eminence in Shadow and I absolutely enjoyed it, especially the combination of overpowered main character goodness, secret organization goodness, comedy, and dark fantasy building. I'm now really wanting more anime with a similar atmosphere or storytelling pattern. I like main characters going behind the scenes, intricate plots, and just a world that isn't quite as it seems at first glance. A bit of comedy amidst all the action is a definite bonus! Do you know of any anime involving shadowy organizations, main characters with OP power but are hilarious as well, or just have that same “cool but ridiculous” atmosphere?

Hi Various_Writer6877, it seems like you might be looking for new anime to watch!

The users of this subreddit came up with [a chart of anime recommendations for newcomers and veterans](https://i.redd.it/0w1v880jtq661.png) and [an awesome longer flowchart](https://i.redd.it/vdzlkodz19c71.png). Maybe you can find something there that you'll like \^.\^

You can't find anime like that. Therefore The Eminence In Shadow is different and unique.

But The World's Finest Assassin Gets Reincarnated in Another World As An Aristocrat comes to my mind after you mentioned shadowy organisations and main character is op. But it has no comedy.

Various_Writer68772026-01-03 21:02

I have already watched it

Unusual_Rush_11892026-01-03 19:36

Okay, hear me out.

Eminence in Shadow is good because it is a satire on a very overdone genre. For the same reason you might like Modoka Magica. Try not to read anything about it ahead of time and watch it blind (no comedy however).

Various_Writer68772026-01-03 21:03

I will try watching it thanks

I remember watching that show and thinking "I can't tell if these guys are trying to be serious or not" and then they introduced the villain: Prev Asshat

Various_Writer68772026-01-03 20:23

Ya i remember that
Eminence in shadow is funny as hell

Deriniel2026-01-03 20:35

they're serious, story wise. The only one who doesn't notice is mc. Which adds to the hilarity

Various_Writer68772026-01-03 21:01

True 🤣

gud_fellow2026-01-03 21:22

You took fucking 16 EPISODES TO REALIZE THEY ARENT SERIOUS?

Playest_42472026-01-03 21:23

I was like "okay this is obviously stupid but is it regular stupid or on purpose stupid?"

gud_fellow2026-01-03 21:26

They made the show purpose stupid from the start. Did you not realise in episode 2 when he met Alpha, Cid made shit up to make her believe him and join him.

Playest_42472026-01-03 21:29

Yes but isekai is an overwhelmingly stupid genre.

gud_fellow2026-01-03 21:47

Yeah can't really deny that.
