If you haven’t watched Frieren yet, you should probably give it a shot before its new season airs this season.
pastaboxeater2026-01-03 23:11
Yeah, I've heard it's good
bookhoarder72026-01-03 23:12
I loved Frieren. Such a great show. I’m very excited for season two. I know it’s not everyone’s cup of tea but it reminded me a bit of mushishi. Any more recommendations because I’d love to find something to fill my time. I’m not picky about genres, I love almost all of them. What’s a favorite of yours?
SA0902026-01-03 23:15
For the new year? None yet. Ultimate favourite though? Seirei no Moribito remains undefeated so far.
bookhoarder72026-01-03 23:32
I haven’t seen that yet! I’ll check it out and let you know what I think. Thanks for your help!
ferriouscroller92026-01-03 23:15
Gatchiakuta initially flew under my radar. I wasn't expecting to watch the show, but I am glad I did. The show is quirky. It has great fights and characters, and the attention to detail in the world is excellent.
There is a story, though, that goes over SA, so please advise. The story is more for an older audience, not as dark as Berserk's mature level, but not as light as Naruto or Bleach.
But overall, it had some fantastic, funny moments, and the chemistry (regardless of sub or dub) between the cast is excellent, really making the storytelling feel authentic.
thatabcdmage2026-01-03 23:23
It starts off like any typical shonen(I was bored the first 4 or 5 episodes too). Then it slowly started taking pace, and ended on a high note imo. Artstyle sure is unique and some of the gags are really done nice.
bookhoarder72026-01-03 23:44
Thanks for the heads up because I’d hate to drop the show right before it gets good. Have a favorite of yours to recommend for afterwards?
ExaminationNo91862026-01-03 23:46
The episode about SA is about episode 9 or 10(?), and it kind of hits hard with less warning than my mentioning what episode it happens in.
bookhoarder72026-01-03 23:42
Thank you! Love the review, I’m excited to start it. I hadn’t even heard of it until today. Figured I’d give it a try and see what I thought. I usually watch it both sub and dubbed so I can get a feel for it and also helps me catch something I might have missed.
Got a favorite anime of yours you’d recommend for afterwards?
ferriouscroller92026-01-03 23:54
It was previously mentioned, but I love Full Metal Alchemist Bortherhood, Ranking of Kings, and Frienen. All have great stories, artwork, and a decent amount of episodes :)
bookhoarder72026-01-04 00:09
I haven’t seen Ranking of Kings gets. Haven’t even heard of it so thank you for that! I’ll give it a watch after gachiakuta. I loved Frieren and I know some people didn’t find it quite as appealing as I did but I can’t wait for the next season. And FMA & FMAB are always a classic loved them both.
kingsart0442026-01-03 23:19
Gachiakuta’s so goooood. The art style is sick, the characters designs are cool, all the characters feel distinct and fleshed out, and it’s got a unique premise/vibe for the show. I’m midway through it rn and gonna make some fanart for it when I get a chance
Other recommendations of stuff I enjoyed this year: Dandadan, that time I got reincarnated as a slime (originally wrote it off as being like gooner anime but was way better than I thought it would be), chainsaw man especially the Reze arc movie it was so good, and dorohedoro
bookhoarder72026-01-03 23:36
I’m excited to start it. I’ve heard a lot of mixed thoughts about it but I can’t help but atleast give it a try. LOVED Dandadan, I wasn’t sure I’d like it but I really enjoyed it same with chainsaw man. I have been waiting for season 2 of Dorohedoro, I was very excited to hear about it coming back. I have yet to watch that time I got reincarnated into slime so that I will toss on my list. Thanks for the recommendations and please share your fanart when your done I’d love to see it 🙂
kingsart0442026-01-03 23:39
For sure! I’ve mostly been making chainsaw man fanart and I’m planning to post some of that here when I get enough comment karma in this sub lol but for now you can find most of it on my tumblr (@/kingsart044). I’ve got some deathnote fanart on there too
Have you watched Mob Psycho 100? I feel like it’s kinda similar in vibes to dandadan so if not you should check it out. It’s got great animation
bookhoarder72026-01-05 16:10
I have heard of mob psycho 100. I have yet to watch it but now I definitely will. I’m not picky about animation, I really enjoy story line and character development but if it’s got good animation I can’t complain. Haha
I will absolutely check out your art, love death note. I’m excited to see chainsaw man art it was a favorite of mine last year, that solo leveling and Kaiju no. 8
Playful_Code_89782026-01-03 23:28
Started it recently, took an episode or two but it’s growing on me.
bookhoarder72026-01-04 00:06
Thanks for the heads up!
NeptuneOW2026-01-03 23:36
I wanted to like it more but it didn’t work for me. It has an interesting plot, ideas, and a power system, but they aren’t executed well IMO. Characters are flat and boring except for Rudo, Enjin, Jabber, Zodyl, and Bundus. Animation has some bright spots but is overall nothing special. As for the power system, in theory it’s awesome but they don’t do much with it at all. You’ll notice that pretty much every single person turns their weapon into a bigger version with sharp edges. I’d be interested in watching more once they actually make progress towards getting back to the Sphere but until then I’ll probably skip.
bookhoarder72026-01-04 00:07
I appreciate the heads up. I’ve heard both sides of the story so I’m going to have to start it to see how I feel about it.
Got a favorite of yours you’d recommend to watch?
NeptuneOW2026-01-04 02:41
Samurai Champloo for sure.
bookhoarder72026-01-04 14:05
It’s my absolute favorite. It was my first anime tattoo, along with rurouni kenshin. I feel like champloo is a masterpiece and I always watch it once or twice a year. Have any other good recommendations?
KYLE_FREELAND2026-01-04 00:12
Started it recently, it’s very fun!
Check out Sentenced to be a hero, first episode just released today and it was great
bookhoarder72026-01-04 00:18
Thanks for the recommendation I’ll absolutely check it out. Something new for the new year.
Got a favorite of yours you’d recommend for afterwards?
KYLE_FREELAND2026-01-04 00:23
No problem!
My favorite of all time is prolly Black Clover; kinda basic stuff, but I love it, and it’s finally getting some more episodes this year
What have you seen/what is your preference? I saw Frieren was recommended, rightfully so
bookhoarder72026-01-04 00:29
I’m soooo stoked for black clovers return. It’s a favorite of mine. I have seen the mainstream usuals. I have a deep love for good long series and I’m not picky at all on genres. I watch it all as long as it keeps my interest.
I will say I do love a good samurai anime. Samurai champloo is a favorite of mine, and I just watched the remake of rurouni kenshin.
KYLE_FREELAND2026-01-04 00:42
It seems like you’re more well versed in this matter than I am, so I’m unsure if I can help any, but I’ll try
The new bleach stuff is amazing, and finishes this year.. the arc at least
Hells paradise is starting again soon. I need to rewatch, but they had swords, so similar vibe right…? Been a while
My other faves are MHA, JJK, AOT, HXH. Just finished Solo and that was a fun watch. Delicious in Dungeon was a fun watch too
nexxlevelgames2026-01-04 00:36
Its the beat new Shonen of the season.
If u want the beat anime from 2025 The Summer Hikaru died is tops But its pretty deep.
bookhoarder72026-01-04 14:00
I really enjoy shonen anime and I will say I’m on episode 7 and I’m really liking it. Love the concept and idea of the worlds. Definitely wasn’t what I was expecting. I haven’t seen The Summer Hikaru died so that will be my next choice! Thank you!
Simple-Sector40232026-01-04 01:30
gachiauta is good so far, the orld is gritty and the power system is super unique. I also havent finished it but enjoying it so far. I'm watching mha after coming back to it and enjoying it so far
bookhoarder72026-01-04 14:02
I’m on episode 7 and I’m loving it. I really like the gritty world concept. Not what I was expecting to be honest but it works very well. Good Luck catching up on MHA, I was watching each week. I really enjoyed this past season.
