What are some other top tier anime like Cowboy Bebop?

I started watching Cowboy Bebop for the first time recently and I'm about to finish it, so I'm just looking for some suggestions of other anime with maybe a similar vibe or just some that you think I should watch and will love?

Hi _thewayshegoess_, it seems like you might be looking for new anime to watch!

The users of this subreddit came up with [a chart of anime recommendations for newcomers and veterans](https://i.redd.it/0w1v880jtq661.png) and [an awesome longer flowchart](https://i.redd.it/vdzlkodz19c71.png). Maybe you can find something there that you'll like \^.\^

Samurai champloo was made by the same people

Flat-Rutabaga-7232026-01-04 00:33

Came here to suggest. I was hoping Lazarus would be the newest addition but honestly I can’t recommend it.

Yotsubato2026-01-04 00:33

Lazarus felt like it had no soul

Flat-Rutabaga-7232026-01-04 01:00

Every week I kept expecting it to take off and then it ended. Probably my biggest tv series letdown of the year.

NeptuneOW2026-01-04 03:58

And it’s even better than Bebop (imo)!

Playest_42472026-01-04 04:21

Leeeeet's not go that far

But it does have more sword fights

Unusual_Rush_11892026-01-04 00:24

Try Noir if you want a similar 'gun play' high.

Frieren. If you like the worldbuilding in Cowboy Bebop, you will love that of Frieren, which is possibly the best worldbuilding in an anime.

It has also the same psychological depth, similar themes like sorrow, loss, passing of time. It also has a lot of episodes that have the characters simply discover something new and remember about their past.

•Akira(one of the all time greatest)
•Berserk(1997,speaks for itself)(just beware of the subject matter)
•Wicked City/Demon city(Bit on the weirder side, but if you can appreciate old school anime art and unique settings I’d give it a shot)
•Silent mobius
•Ghost in the shell (1995)
•Vampire D(insanely beautiful)
•Hellsing(another classic vampire anime)

All in my opinion amazing in their own way,and something to experience for yourself if you haven’t

_thewayshegoess_2026-01-04 00:53

I was thinking about watching Berserk, actually. I've heard good things about it. I'll check it out. Thanks!

It is (as I said,in my opinion) one of the best and most influential anime ever created, the struggle of characters and the dark setting is something to behold and I don’t know if we will ever see a proper adaptation

Novel_Emu54872026-01-04 01:02

Keep in mind you can only find the 1997 adaptation on YouTube at the moment or some free anime websites, or if you really like you can buy the DVD off Amazon etc

Super Crooks & Redline

Cowboy bebop is pretty unique, not a lot of shows like that. But samurai champloo is made by the same guy and kinda has the same vibe.

Black lagoon, Trigun and Jormungand are also good animes with a similar vibe

Outlaw Star

Stunning-Stable-21102026-01-04 00:55

How about Michiko to Hatchin and Trigun. All of them have a western setting going on and characters are flawed and unique. Also, all have an amazing Dub and Sub, so i doesn’t matter which you hear first

LegbasHand2026-01-04 01:06

If you like Bebop, the almost direct parallels are going to be Outlaw Star and Trigun. Both Space Westerns. Try searching under that category. Those two are going to be similar also in tone and art style to Bebop.

San-Gatsu no Lion

Steamedcarpet2026-01-04 01:34

Outlaw Star is one of my favorites and something i can always recommend

JustAnswerAQuestion2026-01-04 02:48

Bebop is pretty much S tier, contemporaries like Outlaw Star have some of the flavor but not the sublime conception. But if flavor is what you want, Outlaw Star is the answer.

I would rank the first season of GITS SAC, which was also on permanent rotation next to Bebop on Adult Swim.

Along the Vibes path, I would send you to the original Trigun TV series.

Veritas33332026-01-04 05:58

Big O - it's batman if he had a giant mech, and the theme song is a cover of a Queen song

Wavenstein12026-01-05 02:09

Look into the similar but underrated and overlooked Outlaw Star. I personally preferred it over Bebop but that's just me. Give it a shot

Friend_JohanLiebert2026-01-05 09:36

For futuristic animes I'd suggest ghost in the shell, psycho-pass and cyborg-009
Ergo proxy and Pluto are more recent examples
