I've recently found myself wondering how depraved and grotesque anime can get. The kind of thing you need a strong stomach to get through, the outright traumatising and horrific. Whether it's gore, horror, gruesome violence, SA, cannibalism or anything else you can think of. Drop your recs and I promise to check every one out.

Elfen Lied is a good more normal one.

Honestly there's a bunch of options out there, but stuff like Overfiend which I just mentioned is on another level compared to the ones mentioned so far and those are not to my taste.

Redo of Healer is a fantasy anime (sword and sorcerery) that is basically.. rape, torture, rape rape murder, torture, rape, drug addiction, sodomy.. rape.. sex, sex, rape.. humiliation fetish.. murder.

Maybe not quite in that order..

Yeah.. but that's a slow burn uncomfortable with short flashes of confrontation in parts. Not an in-your-face abomination. Honestly though. Everyone should watch it. It's a masterpiece.

Boogie Pop Phantom is a good start. Gantz is a fun one if you want a little tamer then there's A.D. police (really anything 80's 90's cyberpunk) and Ninja Scroll.

The actual Most Fucked Up shit is probably going to be like, super obscure guro OVAs from the 80s or something. But that's not my thing.

Best I can offer is Dorohedoro, which keeps up a pretty goofy tone most of the time but is full of grime and blood and casual murder.

The Fruit of Grisia - isnt hentai, but its basically just everyone experiencing trauma. MC backstory is just depressing

Happy Sugar Life - not a hentai, no good people, and the mc is a yandere

Redo of Healer - is technically a hentai, but has a full story. Lots of rape and torture. Still aired on some channels censored

Euphoria - Before the Zendaya show, there was the Hentai, filled with so many fetishes and depravity. I dont personally know how people can legitimately watch it for the hentai in some of those scenes

Technically yes. Some hentai are separate from an actual anime release, and are just the sex scenes. But most is made to be porn.

Redo of Healer is about 40 percent porn, but it was released as an anime with a full season, and has an actual story, it just also involves a lot of rape and murder. Its a revenge plot. The story isnt bad, just very graphic

Euphoria is, Im fairly certain, meant to be porn, but was also based off a visual novel, so there is an actual story there as well. But its mostly porn

Most hentai do actually have SOME story, with a surprising amount having a fair amount of story. There's just also a lot of depravity involved, and the central focus is typically sex. A lot are based of doujins or visual novels. The ones based on visual novels tend to just cut out the story and do the sex scenes, but with a little setup. It isnt as common now, but some older romance anime would be fairly normal, and then have a full on sex scenes, and the whole thing would be labeled hentai.

There were a few websites I would go on that would cut out the sex scenes themselves from hentai and you could watch them normally. There were even a couple shows Id seen that had a hentai version/*accompaniment* that I had no idea about until after I had watched the normal anime

Okay, I understand why you would reach that conclusion. However you don't know anything about me, my name, my character or my interests.

I'm 32, I have been watching anime for a long time and though I've seen a few niche and obscure anime across the years I primarily view the more well known. Recently I've watched: and you thought there is never a girl, my awkward senpai, dandadan, spy x family, high school dxd, solo camping for two and a few other cosy slice of life/romance types. I usually watch shonen or seinen by a huge majority, black clover is a personal favourite and I have been watching one piece since I was a child (stopped at wano so the anime could get more eps before next rewatch).

My point good sir/madam, the recommendations I have asked for DO NOT interest me. However as the post said, I found myself asking how dark anime can get, now if I ask a question I NEED an answer and I believe this community has done a great job in providing the start of those answers. It's more morbid curiosity than it is viewing pleasure.

I hope I've put your mind at ease.
