What to watch after Samurai Champloo?

So Mugen, Jin, Fuu, and I just finished our journey together; and I'm kinda sad about that, but I have to move on & don't know what to watch next. Lately I've watched (in the following order):

1) AoT
2) Death Note
3) Jujutsu Kaisen
4) Parasyte- The Maxim
5) Dororo
6) Dr. Stone
7) Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood
8) Cyberpunk Edgerunners
9) Hunter x Hunter
10) Trigun (original)
11) Kengan Ashura
12) Mob Psycho 100
13) Assassination Classroom
14) Hellsing Ultimate
15) Cowboy Bebop
16) Castlevania
17) Devilman Crybaby
18) Great Pretender
19) Soul Eater
20) Gurren Lagann
21) Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress
22) Hell's Paradise
23) Puella Magi Madoka Magica
24) Goblin Slayer
25) Black Lagoon
26) Bacanno
27) The Promised Neverland
28) Samurai Champloo

I enjoyed all of them; my least favorite definitely being Puella Magi Madoka Magica. The only 2 anime that I started to watch, but quit watching because they didn't capture my attention were; My Hero Academia and The Disastrous Life of Saiki K. All suggestions welcome; and all genres EXCEPT for shoujo/romance anime. And thanks ahead of time..

Literally ignore all other suggestions that aren't Space Dandy. It's from the same producer, is in a similar style to Cowboy Bebop and Champloo, and is, IMO, the best of Watanabe's works. A solid 10/10 anime that I can't recommend enough.

nexclusivil2026-01-04 07:01

Good recommendation but none of Watanabe's work tops Cowboy Bebop, that's just a fact

Ill_Reference5822026-01-04 08:26

I honestly liked Samurai Champloo quite a bit more than Cowboy Bebop

shonkshonkshonk2026-01-04 15:50

I think that's a totally valid opinion and generally like Cowboy Bebop more than Space Dandy, but I think Space Dandy is just a much better work of art than Bebop.

nexclusivil2026-01-04 15:56

To each their own, I love all of Watanabe's works and they're all unique in their own way I just always thought of Cowboy Bebop as a masterpiece which very few anime accomplish in my book, a few others on that pedestal for me are FMA: Brotherhood and Attack on Titan

Ill_Reference5822026-01-04 08:28

Have you guys' seen Lazarus too? Was just looking at his works and it sounds interesting

shonkshonkshonk2026-01-04 15:51

The plot makes no sense, but I liked the soundtrack a lot and the choreography for the action scenes was really good. It was a strange show. I don't think it was a *good* anime, but I don't regret watching it.

Ill_Reference5822026-01-04 08:33

Well you guys just made up my mind for me. Space Dandy, then Terror in Resonance.

Dull_Spot_82132026-01-04 04:58

If you want something with a similar vibe, try [Inu-Oh](https://anilist.co/anime/109928).

tasker20202026-01-04 05:07

One Piece

wolfbagel2026-01-04 07:06

Specifically season 1

mahamoti2026-01-04 05:10

* Space Dandy
* Afro Samurai
* Ninja Scroll

Largofarburn2026-01-04 05:15

I was surprised Vinland saga wasn’t on your list. It seems like it’d be right up your alley.

Have you given jojo a try yet?

Ill_Reference5822026-01-04 08:47

Oh I want to watch Vinland Saga so bad. But I hate watching anime that aren't finished. Then I get left on a cliffhanger. And I HATE cliffhangers. Learned my lesson with Jujutsu Kaisen and Hell's Paradise Jigokuraku. Do the seasons of Vinland Saga leave off like that? And haven't watched JoJo yet either

EmuSupreme2026-01-04 10:51

Imo, the second season concludes in a way that it feels like the story is complete. There's obviously more to the story, but the story arcs get wrapped up so nicely they can almost be stand alone series.

Ill_Reference5822026-01-04 21:53

Awesome. Definitely gonna watch it next then. As soon as I'm done with Afro Samurai, which is only a few episodes.

Available_Group_13172026-01-04 05:38

This watch list reminds me of a trend. It tends to be darker and more psychological with action.

I agree with claymore.

Psychopass

Darker than black.

Edit: kino's journey

Saga of Tanya the Evil.

Ill_Reference5822026-01-04 08:52

Yeah I definitely do tend to like a little darker stuff. Not always; but I do lean that way sometimes. Makes sense since I've been a fan of horror movies since I was like 8 years old

Available_Group_13172026-01-04 18:48

Like what emotional feeling are you aiming for?

Ill_Reference5822026-01-06 10:44

Any. I honestly get in different moods. Sometimes I want to laugh, sometimes I want gore, sometimes I wanna be on edge and in suspense, sometimes I want to be disturbed, sometimes I want to be sad, etc. So really anything; other than romance anime.

Available_Group_13172026-01-06 10:51

It just seems like you are hitting all the main ones.
You are a hard customer.

It would be from lycoris recoil to hells paradise to elfen lied to kino's journey.

Edit:nvm you saw hells paradise.

Available_Group_13172026-01-06 10:54

Wait I know one.. I recomend to you then. Garden of sinners

Ill_Reference5822026-01-06 11:00

Thank you. I will actually look into all of those.

Emergency-Cable-12822026-01-04 05:52

Samurai Champloo is such a unique anime, blending comedic and serious tones, that I honestly don’t think any recommendation truly matches it. It’s better to watch something that interests you rather than chase another show like it. My personal recommendation is to watch Code Geass next.

ZDB8882026-01-04 06:03

Astra lost in space next. 12 short great episodes

Ok-Strawberry-42152026-01-04 06:27

I additionally nominate Claymore

I also will nominate Land of the Lustrous, fits the vibe and is gorgeous. Give it two episodes and don’t be fooled by how pretty everything is

Space Dandy is pretty too, it’s more of the upbeat style compared to the rest of your list

Re:Zero is probably something you will like

Maybe Shakugan No Shana?

nexclusivil2026-01-04 07:03

Code Geass and Outlaw Star, most of the main shonens have been recommended already

TwinkletheTwee2026-01-04 07:39

Space Dandy, Terror in Resonance, Lazarus, Carol and Tuesday.. just triple down on Watanabe!

Ill_Reference5822026-01-04 09:02

Sounds like a plan to me. I'm about to start Space Dandy now, then probably Terror in Resonance.

TwinkletheTwee2026-01-04 18:21

Sounds like a great start to a new year! He also did Kids on the slope if you wanna check that out later. If you’re ever looking for anime with great music, Yoko Kano who has worked with Watanabe on Bebop also does the score for Ghost in the Shell Stand Alone Complex (which the music fits the vibe 10/10). I think some of the above projects listed she’s also worked on with him. Wolf’s rain is also pretty interesting! Have fun =)

SeAndre_30002026-01-04 08:08

If you also like movies I’d recommend Ninja Scroll and Sword of the Stranger.
