1. Attack on titan
Just an absolute masterpiece, expected it to be good because of constant TikTok recommendation, but it still surpassed my expectations. Unfortunately was spoiled of the ending though which sucks.

2. Naruto
My first anime, started watching as a kid and rewatched it when I grew up, and it held true to my memory. kid me knew ball, so good, every relevant character and arc is so well done. Not sure what more there is to say.

3. Code geass
Another masterpiece, so much is going on throughout this show, and yet it balances everything perfectly. Of course Lelouch and Suzaku take the spotlight characterwise, as they are just so perfectly written, but everything is so well done. Plus one of the best done endings I’ve seen ever.

4. One piece
Probably the most popular anime ever for a reason. Of course everyone knows the only flaw is the length, and boy is it a problem at times, had to switch to the manga to get through a couple arcs, but man is it amazing. Its world building is unparalleled, and it has some of the best characters and character development in fiction. The fights are well done and have genius writing where they arent just fights that get us through the story, but they beautifully progress story and character. And the emotions especially the emotional peaks are so well done.

5. Vinland saga
Love this show as well, the animation is amazing, it is intense, very emotional. The character development especially stand out. Overall great end to the top 5

6. My hero academia
My second ever anime, and one of the most nostalgic for me especially with it ending so recently. I still remember me from 8 years ago seeing season 1 all might’s fight in the USJ. I rewatched it for nostalgia recently and I still love this show so much. The characters are amazing, the emotions are amazing, some of the best musical scores, and the animation is great to. So good, can’t believe it’s over. The only issue with this to me is the awful fanbase that gives it a bad rep

7. Fullmetal alchemist: brotherhood
This series is excellent, I haven’t seen the original to compare, but this is so good. It had excellent emotional depth and it’s thrilling as well. A bit dark at times but it’s done so well. Its story explores several themes and done really well and all themes are compelling. Also mustang is him

8. Your lie in April
First non action anime on the list, and boy this one hits hard. One of the only shows I can remember actually crying to. So emotional and so beautiful, even if you’ve never watched anything but action stuff I highly recommend it.

9. Hunter x Hunter
I should’ve expected it from my experiences, but I was not prepared for how surprisingly deep this show was, especially for having 11 year olds as the main characters. The characters are complex and well written, and the themes that we see in it are beautifully shown. I just wish they finished the series

10. Death note
A classic, this one is known everywhere and it is what got a lot of people to start watching anime in the first place. It’s well done, very thrilling, characters are compelling and really interesting, and it is well written. I didn’t dislike the backend and ending of it, but I just didn’t love it is my only thing.

11. Black clover
I watched this recently off a suggestion from a friend, and he got me right. This show is really solid, although I’d say if you are more of a fan of the emotional and storytelling aspect of things it won’t be your favorite, however the action is awesome and I think the emotional depth and character writing is very underrated. Honestly for me the main thing is just that at times the characters annoy you, they try to do the Naruto thing where he says he will be Hokage, however they overdo it and the main character Asta becomes more annoying than inspiring with him saying he will be the wizard king constantly and a lot of the time at the wrong time when you don’t care or don’t want to hear that.

12. Demon slayer
Okay this one is interesting for me. Probably had the best animation of any anime I’ve seen ever, the fights are unbelievable, amazing action, but the character writing feels a bit shallow a lot of the time, and especially in that first season of 20ish episodes the character writing, storytelling, and emotion really takes a backseat. However, after that it really picks up and there becomes a lot of emotion, the character writing gets better, and the storytelling also gets better. Mugen train with rengoku, the entertainment district arc as a whole, and of course the infinity castle arc are just amazing. I will say though, in terms of strictly writing not fighting it still feels like the main character is a bit shallow compared to the others in the show, with a major side character often stealing the show, such as rengoku or akaza for example

13. Jujutsu Kaisen
This is a fun one, one of the more interesting power systems in anime, and it is very good. The animation is excellent and the characters are all very good and well written. Not a whole lot to say about this one, has no real bad aspects, it just isn’t at the top of any category which leaves it here.

14. Jojos bizarre adventure
Very distinctly creative and flashy. One of the more uniquely done ones for sure. But the characters are unforgettable, and the battles are very interesting to not always.

15. HoriMiya
Was the first non action anime I watched, and it got me hooked. It has a great rep, which it absolutely deserves. It never feels like anything is weird or off, and all the characters important to the story are so well written, especially the characters interactions with each other feel so much more real than a lot of other shows are able to do. The emotions are all written so good to. This should be the gold standard for the slice-of-life genre

16. Rascal does not dream of bunny girl senpai
Man this one I came in with shaky expectations off the name, but it was completely different than I expected. I expected something full of fan service that had shallow writing but the characters were cool or whatever. It was such a pleasant shock to find it was a very emotional and heart moving story, with some surprisingly well done humor in it. I suggest giving it a chance, despite the name.

17. Frieren: beyond journeys end
It’s an interesting concept, almost feeling like a backwards story with the main character starting at the top, but it absolutely works. It’s focus on human connections and emotions, while keeping the character awesome is really cool.

18. More than a married couple but not lovers
This one is definitely something. Unfortunately it feels like we will never get another season to conclude the story, which sucks, but the one season is still good. The only real problem is the fan service is wild, and occasionally rather than emotion it feels like it just focuses on sexual motivations, however, when it actually focuses on the relationship and emotions it is beautifully done, and I especially like the dynamic of enemies to lovers, but still being unsure of the love part, but it’s not done in the stereotypical way of the female character just denying it and punching the male character, but done instead in just being unsure and debating opening your heart up to the person, which a lot of people relate to in real life, despite obviously not being in this bizarre situation the characters are in.

19. Chainsaw man
This one is very weird for me. It’s a very crazy one that at sometimes just doesn’t seem all that good, especially early on, however the surprising raw emotion and often messed up character development, is beautifully crafted. Even, when the characters main motivation is to touch a woman’s breasts, it is still genuinely captivating, because of the reasons and way this motivation is written. And also the animation and action is great as well, and don’t get me started on the Reze arc ending, that broke my heart man. The issue is just that the weirdness goes over the top sometimes

20. The 7 deadly sins
This one is solid. The adventure and world building is great, and the characters are all really cool. Its themes of loyalty and friendship are powerfully portrayed and woven throughout the story. Its main critique is often on the backend, and it’s the same for me. The backend of the series just didn’t seem as good as before.

21. My dress up darling
It’s kind of a weird concept, as most people would probably find cosplaying kind of weird including myself, however even if you still find it weird, the story compels you to feel some way about it differently. Marin kind of steals the show a bit, but her and Gojo’s connection through her tearing down his mental walls is so cool to see. My only issue is just that they take so long to get together. It’s been 2 seasons already, and we still haven’t really seen them share their feelings together or anything really close to it other than just helping each other. Inside of the characters is what is more interesting as nothing happens romantically outside.

22. Our last crusade on the rise of a new world
This is probably the least known series on the list, but I really like it. It’s a cool show that takes the classic Romeo and Juliet, forbidden love on opposite sides, kind of story and blends it with great animation and action with some really awesome fights. It takes place with 2 constantly warring sides for centuries, and it’s interesting to see as the characters progress with each other, the balance between the warring sides is devolving into chaos around them, the characters aren’t very deep at this point, but the emotions are still very well done, even with not much of backstories. I can’t wait to see what happens in future seasons.

23. Solo leveling
Here it is, solo leveling. Honestly this is one where the characters just aren’t really that deep, barely any backstory stuff ever happens, but the action is awesome, and it feels so cool to see the main character go from genuinely nothing to pretty much a god. But overall while I enjoyed it, it’s completely carried by the action.

24. Fire force
Another one with awesome action, and great animation. The fan service is genuinely a problem is the main critique of many and it is true, however I also will say that sometimes the characters just feel a bit off, like the show is missing something. It has great action and I like the underlying mystery aspect, but sometimes the character and emotions just felt flat to me, the first one on the list I can say where at times it felt like an actual chore to get through.

25. One punch man
Oh boy what a fall off. While I was never an overly big fan of this show I did enjoy it. The animation was stunning and the action overall was great, even if some of the characters were a lot of nothing, it worked for whatever reason having not much of a backstory, even the main character is literally a hero for fun with unanswered reasons for his strength. But, oh boy season 3 is a disaster and completely tanked it for me, I won’t say much more.

26. The eminence in shadow
Honestly
Has a somewhat engaging story, but it’s just kinda weird. They try to do unique things to the genre, however it’s kind of a mixed bag in terms of how stuff worked out. The main issue is just that the characters largely just feel kinda flat. The storytelling is good, and some of the action and fights are good to, however the emotion is largely not really there, the characters are shallow and flat, and the whole princess alexia stuff just kinda frustrated me while I watched it.

27. Chivalry of a failed knight
Don’t know why I watched this, but man, it is just not that great. There’s some good aspects, like the main characters struggles and resolve to become a knight, and the fights are solid, however the fan service is out of control, way too much sexual stuff, the romance feels kinda forced, for some reason they decided to make the main characters sister want to have incest with him, and overall it’s just not that amazing.
