This was the first anime i've ever dropped because of how repetitive it was. That couch has Slime isekai meeting room ptsd for me. How it has such a high MAL score (almost 8.0) and seemingly positive reception, idk maybe i'm the insane one.

Simply put the standards are low. It alludes the criticisms that the same quality Isekai & battle shounens get.
Romance fans are so desperate for couples being together that it doesn’t matter the flaws. The dialogue in this show was so bad. Both in terms of not sounding like high schoolers and feeling so unnatural.

Angel Next Door is still far better than Kaoru No Hana in my opinion which is more of a wish-fulfillment fantasy than anything else the genre has offered as of late. There's no lasting strife between the cast and they're all emotionally intelligent enough to apologize for the slightest infractions.
I'm not saying that drama is necessary for romance to be riveting otherwise I wouldn't have enjoyed The Angel Next Door. What I can't get behind is how every conflict is ultimately meaningless in Kaoru Hana. The enmity between both schools is so short-lived that the writer all but abandons the Romeo X Juliet selling point of the first arc. At least in The Angel Next Door, they're just neighbours who enjoy one another's company. It doesn't use a half-baked rivalry as fuel for conflict that gets resolved so easily anyway.

This show would be on the lower side of Yamada lv 999. As yamada had actual characters and animation with changing backgrounds. Plus more importantly it was a generally more young adult college age cast.
In this anime it's high school teen vibe romance. Which can work. I actually didn't mind the romance in this show, but the character interactions were very grating once you see the formula repeating every episode.
"Dress up darling" and "Dangers in the heart" would be my suggestions for good romance.

personally can't wait. Anime like this are needed for the rest they give you between series filled with horror and psychotic villains. The LN will obviously give you more mileage and depth than the anime, especially concerning the MC backgrounds and their internal struggles. My only wish for the LN is that the author would include more internal dialogue.
