Douglas, once known as a legendary enhancement spellcaster, is now little more than your average, weak old man. On top of that, he was kicked out of the hero party, and eventually had his adventurer's license revoked... And that's how he ended up a vagabond, wandering aimlessly. After an encounter with Rabi, a cursed little girl, a new adventure begins... ([mangaup](https://global.manga-up.com/manga/25))
He has a condition that makes him lose max HP when he uses a skill, but yeah, he isn't old, just chronically ill. They should lead with that.
Nachtwandler_FS2026-01-04 12:24
By anime standards anyone above 25 is old.
Desperate_Method40202026-01-04 12:43
Basically ancient if you're nearing 40
Solracziad2026-01-04 13:37
I assume anyone 40+ gets to become an ancient Lich.
zz20002026-01-04 14:31
By those age standards, old men character like Roshi and Happosai count as living mummies...
EldritchCarver2026-01-04 16:24
Eventually, it cycles around, and you end up with 600-year-old lolis.
Earlier-Today2026-01-04 15:00
It's important to remember that the target demographic for these things is usually teenagers.
To *them*, it's old.
KTR19882026-01-04 17:59
I'm as old as Kazuma Kiryu was in the first Yakuza game, so when I played Kiwami somewhat recently I started having a crisis when thugs were calling him an old man 💀
HugeRichard112026-01-04 14:01
Actually uncle representation nice
CassianAVL2026-01-04 12:20
You have to consider that most isekai worlds are based of a medieval era where by age 15-20 most people were marrying, being 37 must be ancient in a lot of their eyes
Desperate_Method40202026-01-04 12:51
Most people lived long-ish lives, but due to high child and infant mortality, the median age was around 30-40. If you were living until you were 20 years old, there was a much higher chance of you becoming 50.
Careful_Ad_90772026-01-04 16:08
Worst old man case i have seen in fantasy manga has the guy be called a middle aged man at 27.
abandoned_idol2026-01-04 20:08
I know a non-fantasy gag manga where a 27 year old woman makes a huge drama about her being 4 years older than her coworker.
That said, it is ironically my #1 favorite manga. Friggin hilarious.
"You wouldn't want to be friends with an old auntie, right?!"
Never has a character been so toxic that it becomes cute (I'm a psycho, aren't I?)
Chronigan22026-01-04 21:35
Well, Noa is almost Christmas cake.
abandoned_idol2026-01-04 20:05
We best put him down for his own interest.
agonoxis2026-01-04 20:06
Ah I see this is a translation issue, the japanese title says おっさん, which usually refers to any age above what a student would be, for example imagine this scenario in media: a guy that's young but no longer a student attending a frat party, one of the people there would say to him "what are you doing here ossan?" as if to mock him for his age, even though he's not that old.
Andreiyutzzzz2026-01-04 20:10
Ah like a mocking Ojisan(mister/uncle) kinda?" that makes more sense
zz20002026-01-04 14:34
Iirc this title started as a WN which eventually stalled and got taken down from its website. I dunno about the LN version, but the manga version has still been ongoing.
Technical-Row83332026-01-04 17:17
But when I take a little girl I found at the park, it’s all ‘someone call 911’ and ‘please give back my daughter’ screams
WenusTank2026-01-04 11:36
Looks like a cute fun watch.
qwertyqwerty45672026-01-04 11:37

I don't care who Shinzo Abe's ghost sends, I am *not* having children!
GallowDude2026-01-04 16:46
Haha yes I, too, definitely am not having children due to my own choice and not my inability to attract a partner
Candle1ight2026-01-04 17:19
Jokes on Abe, I can't have a kid by myself
BosuW2026-01-04 18:10
Its okay Abe only wants pure japanese children not anything from our gaijin ass 😇
normalmighty2026-01-04 13:18
Sometimes these show really do make me wonder if I want kids. Then I stay for a couple of days with my sister and her kids.
Yeah, I'll stick to being the cool uncle thanks. I need to be able to leave once I've had enough of the kiddos.
peppapony2026-01-04 13:52
I love the kids dad/parents animes, but lately a lot of them have been a bit too much, e.g. I found Somali too hard to watch. Albeit I still love Spy Family, and before that the whole range of dad animes like kakishigoto or sweetness & lightning or even the anime usagi drops
Aerodynamic412026-01-04 11:39
>On top of that, he was kicked out of the hero party
Of course he was.
Shadow_Ass2026-01-04 11:47
I've never watched anything where the mc got kicked out of their party. What are all the reasons they got kicked out??
wickedswami2152026-01-04 11:49
Almost always because they're useless, but actually they're somehow the strongest once they leave the party.
th5virtuos02026-01-04 11:52
Man if these mofos were half as unhinged as Jojo, JJK, HxH or One Piece characters they'd make the kickee the party leader instead
marmothelm2026-01-04 12:03
My personal favorites are the support buff mages that can hand out 10x ability boosts like candy, but somehow never thought to use it on themselves.
CankleDankl2026-01-04 12:17
And the hero's party is 100% oblivious to how all other support mages function and think that stacking exponential omniboosts is normal behavior. Like they've never talked to a single other support mage in their entire lives, or anyone who knows about support magic, or even like a guild master or something that would make some remark about it. Until after they boot the messiah of buffing out of the party, of course
It just makes the plot feel so fuckin contrived. Like none of the characters were actually living in the world before the series started, outside of interacting with the MC. The fact that there are like 5-10+ anime like this at this point is unbelievable to me
Bloodglas2026-01-04 12:35
"wow this new guy's so weak. You can't even quadruple cast 10 spells at once without chanting??"
"What are you talking about! No one can do that!"
"lol yeah right our old guy did it no problem and he was trash! So you must be less than trash!"
Routine_Hat_4832026-01-04 19:34
It's like you ripped this dialogue straight out of a show. Truly S tier writing.
ArCSelkie372026-01-04 19:03
Or even just other non-support mages… even an offensive mage should know how much mana or multi-cast ability an average mage has (support or otherwise) and that buffing someone by like 100% is a massive deal.
Like can the combat mage they never kick out multicast 100 spells?
CankleDankl2026-01-04 12:06
Yep, they're completely and totally useless so they get kicked out, but it turns out that they're legitimately OP. Not only that, but the entire success of the hero's party leaned near-solely on them. So then, after they leave, the hero's party becomes fucking useless. The hero's party then tries to get them back, but they refuse. This sparks a conflict that is then left simmering until a large confrontation later on.
The fact that it gets this specific and can still apply to like a dozen series is fucking depressing. It's a shame, too, because I think the general premise of "kicked out of a party" has the potential to be pretty interesting. If, of course, it didn't trod along the same tired path over and over and fucking over again
WeatherBackground7362026-01-04 12:17
Grieving souls is probably my favorite one out of the bunch because its the total opposite of the kicked out of the party trope, as the mc is this normal dude while the party members are the equivalent to nukes but they all kept dragging him along because they value him alot more than he values himself
diacewrb2026-01-04 13:41
> as the mc is this normal dude
Except he has an insane amount of luck, where the stars always align for him just when the villain attacks.
kingbane22026-01-04 14:48
not just luck, he's essentially immune to mana. dude walks around like it's a summer day in the presence of the fox god while his RIDICULOUSLY OP teammates are flattened just from the fox god's mana leaking out. his teammates have a legitimate reason to think he's bonkers strong, they've probably run into a lot of really strong monsters where they felt immense pressure and then they look at him and he's standing around pickin his nose or something.
RaDiOaCtIvEpUnK2026-01-04 18:50
It does go much further than just luck. He basically has god personally writing out his story with the best possible scenarios that can happen to him happen. You know, except for quitting like he wishes for.
KuKiSin2026-01-04 13:23
>The fact that it gets this specific and can still apply to like a dozen series is fucking depressing. What's even more depressing is that this could be said about many other recent tropes... Every season you get several anime you could just swear you've already watched :| I used to be a sucker for Isekai and I can't stand it anymore...
TheBusStop122026-01-04 14:16
The original one still does it best imo. "Banished from the heroes party I decided to live a quiet life in the countryside". Because the MC isn't OP, when it comes to fighting skills he was lagging behind, and due to the way the world is set up, this is a gap he would never be able to close. Instead his skills were centered around logistics and strategy. He was basically the Sokka (from Avatar TLA) of the group. And thus he accepts it, and throughout the series he stays adamant that leaving was for the best. And he never seeks conflict with the heroes party over it. Instead he builds himself an apothecary, reignites with an old flame and genuinely settles down for the quiet life. Furthermore, there is no conflict between the hero and the MC as they remain closed even after he's banished (if there ever was, the hero would absolutely annihilate the MC, it's made very clear she is genuinely the strongest fighter in the world. But it would never get to that)
The issue with basically every other Banished from the heroes party that followed was that they got turned into revenge power fantasies. But that was never the point of the original
Z000Burst2026-01-04 14:42
yeah, Guide skill basically make the MC a jack of all trade
he alway was gonna lag behind but it not his job to fight, he the emotional support for the team, especially for the his sister the hero
like man was super critical to the team and it only the Sage ego and the Guide self issue that make him leave
ArCSelkie372026-01-04 18:58
The issue isn’t the revenge fantasies, they can work and make sense… the problem is that the whole setup of the series doesn’t make sense, that is the banishment itself.
In “Banished from the Heroes Party” it works because it’s only one person, he’s taken aside by one party member who has issues with him and effectively lied to and convinced to leave… if they’d tried kicking him out publicly it likely would have gone nowhere because there is no chance the hero would have agreed. And as you say the MC saw his utility would eventually be less useful over time.
There’s no illusion that the party or world in general considered him useless because they’re brainless like happens with every other banish series. And when your entire setup is farcical it puts you in a rough position later on… but then again some of these authors write characters (including the MC) who are freakin sociopaths.
Albert_dark2026-01-05 01:46
there's another one I don't remember the name that is cool too, where the party kicks the MC because he is not getting stronger and they worry he is going to die (he almost die several times), in the end they decide save him by instead of putting him in danger they pay a shitload of money as severance and helps him to get a new job at the guild.
Was one of the few that is not a revenge story but just a guy restarting his life in a new profession and being supported by his friends and teaching new members in the guild.
spubbbba2026-01-04 14:56
> The fact that it gets this specific and can still apply to like a dozen series is fucking depressing. It's a shame, too, because I think the general premise of "kicked out of a party" has the potential to be pretty interesting.
I don't think there's been a single one of these that has been good sadly.
Banished from the hero's Party had a great first half of S1, but then the sister turns up and the story becomes a mess. Ended up dropping it in S2 as the main couple get sidelined and the writer kept desperately pushing the sister to the front when she was never a very interesting character.
Careful_Ad_90772026-01-04 16:01
There are two that play with that premise, the first one is cool and then the second one is surprising.
Got kicked out of the hero's party 100 times: nope. Not parody, our mc is a multidimensional hoping normal dude, he kind of groom the hero's party so they can fight the demon lord, but the condition to keep on parallel universe hoping is to get kicked out of the party.
D rank drink man: he got kicked out for genuinely for reasons, when he was as a younger adventurer he fucked up his knee, but he did not quit adventuring, instead he just kept on being part of random low ranked parties until they grow out of him and move up, so they have to kick him out as he becomes useless. What's surprising is how little this logical explanation is used. To not oversell this. Then the guy finds magic sword that makes him op and the plot regresses to normalcy.
Life_Wealth_13922026-01-05 00:32
He got an arrow through the knee, didn't he?
Nachtwandler_FS2026-01-04 12:22
Sometimes they are actually useful but there is that dick party nember (often a male mage or swordsman) who is jealous and kicks them out anyway for "being useless".
ArCSelkie372026-01-04 19:05
That at least makes sense, if the leader of the party manipulates or coerced the others out of jealousy to agree to kick them out? Makes sense and is possible.
Everyone in the party unanimously agreeing that this blatantly OP guy is useless requires the entire world’s brain to have fallen out their ass.
Like I remember one where the “useless” guy basically didn’t level up himself but doubled and tripled the guilds XP gain and shared it all out… and they were fully aware of this, and he even told them that he could actually reclaim any granted XP… they still kicked him out and were surprised when he reclaimed all their XP.
Torque-A2026-01-04 12:30
It feels like these series cater to overworked salarymen, so it’s basically a way for them to go “hey, I *do* matter to my job, and the company would be dead in the water without me!”
Future_Onion90222026-01-04 17:22
Or people who has ex friend group and brainwash themselves they dont interact with them but secretly holding the group together
themaninthehightower2026-01-04 12:44
Almost always the MC was pushed into the buff/debuff role in the back row as the best in the group in that role. The fact they could fight as good as or better than the designated “hero” is ignored. Bonus points if the group were childhood friends vowing to fight all the way to the big bad at the end. Bonus points if the buffs are so passive that rest of the party assumes the benefits were actually their own natural ability.
However if the MC is absolutely clueless, then they were probably working as a hired porter for a party of narcissistic otherwise-hopeless adventurers instead.
Future_Onion90222026-01-04 17:21
And then its a revenge porn where the group fall and collapse comically after mc leave
Blurgas2026-01-04 18:37
[Manga Spoilers]>!Technically yes, but not in the "usual" way. He'd been strong for a long time, but he's been getting weaker and weaker which he brushed off as being 37 catching up to him. Eventually he came down with a disease that reduced his Max HP every time he used a skill/etc. He gets kicked out of the party to protect his life!<
[Plot relevant spoilers]>!MC finds out by accident that the "disease" was actually a curse that was intended to force him to retire since he was becoming rather self-destructive in his will to protect others.!<
Ocixo2026-01-04 11:56
I feel like most of these shows barely got anything to do with the protagonist getting kicked out of the hero’s party.
It’s just an excuse to include a popular trope in the description and/or get the story started. Like how many of today’s fantasy anime could’ve easily worked without the reincarnation part.
CankleDankl2026-01-04 12:09
It's a spinoff genre of the "I was reincarnated super fucking weak at level 1 with no skills and baby arms and I shit myself every day but I can instantly defeat anyone by making eye contact with them" type series. Natural way to create an underdog that has some experience in the world. But then they all play out like fuckin carbon copies of each other
Ocixo2026-01-04 12:21
The origin of this problem mostly lies with how Japanese bookstores and writing forums are organised. Competition is unbelievably fierce. It strongly rewards playing into popular tropes with a small twist. That’s how we got these descriptive titles as well.
ProfessionalRandom212026-01-04 13:27
Must not be that fierce consider the amount of utter trash novel and anime adoptation of those say trans LN we get
Idoma_Sas_Ptolemy2026-01-04 16:15
With the short attention span of modern consumers and many webnovels probably being read on the commute it's the titles and first few pages of stories that decide about a series popularity.
Kind of like some of the most popular content creators on youtube are those thay play the algorhitm, use bait thumbnails and inflammatory titles.
We live in a day and age where marketing your brand is more important than the content of your brand, as sad as that may be.
ProfessionalRandom212026-01-04 13:29
It's more about revenge fantasy of getting wronged
zz20002026-01-04 14:18
>just an excuse to include a popular trope in the description
Exactly this. Most of these recent stories began as webnovels on webnovel site Syosetu, and start off a certain way so the authors can ensure their stories end up qualifying for popularly searched genres/tropes with readers.
Story gets readers ---> story gets popular ---> publishers take note ---> author gets publishing deal.
GrognaktheLibrarian2026-01-04 11:57
Most of the time their helpfulness isn't noticed because it's not flashy so the party starts to think they're useless. Then then they usually realize after getting repeatedly curb stomped that the MC really was carrying them with support magic or whatever.
Basically the MCs in these shows are like bay leaves. The party can't tell what they add to the recipes but they definitely notice when they're gone.
alanamablamaspama2026-01-04 12:15
They sometimes feel like a new sub genre of appreciation fantasy. The banned-from-the-hero-party stories lately have tropes like centered around appreciating the MC like:
* Hero party starts falling apart and members missing all the little things the MC did
* One hero party member knew the MC was awesome all along and provides help to the MC, but for early on feels ashamed to express that appreciation publicly.
* Hero party members stumble upon the small town where they’re surprised the local hero was the loser they banned from their party that blossomed in a nurturing environment. They then start to appreciate the MC more after seeing others appreciate them.
* Obligatory bully from the hero party that hated the MC because they didn’t represent their ideal of strength. Sometimes they come around learn to appreciate that strength comes in other ways.
* MC’s boring skill levels up and uses it to take down the hero that refuses to appreciate MC’s contributions.
huex42026-01-04 12:17
While it definitely became a generic set up. The first of its kind that got popular was actually interesting which is "Banished from the Hero's Party, I Decided to Live a Quiet Life in the Countryside".
I'd recommend reading the novel or at least the manga, the anime, unfortunately, was a subpar adaptation (as always).

Dry-Influence92026-01-05 03:56
"Surviving as a salary man that was kicked out of the board of directors"
>Then proceeds to join Demon's Incorporated and improve their evil initiatives by 500%
Bruh these Japanese authors need to be a bit less shameless. At least satirize it or reverse the troupe to be funny but the vast majority of the time its literally “they assumed I was weak but I was actually carrying them and they now fall apart without me.” Like god damn just write a more generic fantasy plot and not use that troupe.
Accomplished-Tale5432026-01-04 17:05
This one is a bit different in terms of variation bc the MC starts out really strong but essentially fizzles out due to reasons that will be explained later in the series. They kick him out for his own safety since he is getting kinda old too.
TheBusStop122026-01-04 19:10
Honestly, that I'm down for. I don't really mind these kind of overused premises like Isekai or banished from the heroes party as long as they actually do something special with it. Or, if they do still follow all the tropes, that they make these make actual sense. Being kicked out of the heroes party makes sense if due to age and health reasons you're no longer physically fit enough anymore. The army discharges you for that as well (or bumps you up to a desk job, but adventuring parties don't have job openings for those)
Stabaobs2026-01-04 17:13
I'm going to post about "Defeating the Demon Lord is a Cinch if you have a Ringer" in these kicked out of a hero party anime announcements until it gets an anime of its own.

Is there a new trend with babymaking propaganda. Sanda was very heavy handed with mentioning how great children are. Is this anime gonna show how great it is to be a parent?
HellspawnWeeb2026-01-04 12:40
Japan’s birth rate has been declining for years, the have kids anime propaganda trend has been going on for a _while_

8andahalfby112026-01-04 14:55
It's a power fantasy to a young male population that wants kids but is either too shy, awkward, or overworked to make it happen. The dad character does everything right--which never happens in real life, while the kid never tantrums, is rarely selfish, and comes pre-toilet trained, which also never happens in real life.
Brave-Camp-9332026-01-04 12:44
Literally the most random and obscure anime that not a single soul has heard of.
People here: Oh I have read the manga. It is peak.
8andahalfby112026-01-04 14:50
There's a significant overlap to the people on r/anime and r/manga. If a manga is popular enough to get an anime it will absolutely have caught the attention of r/manga and gotten at least a Ch1 scan before that happens.
Stabaobs2026-01-04 17:15
There's probably a venn diagram where /r/manga is inside /r/anime, but I bet there's a majority chunk of /r/anime that has never been in /r/manga.

From what I recall of the manga adaptation[spoiler manga]>!there is no underage marriage. The story is mainly the MC finding a 2nd lease on life by being a father figure to the girl, and trying to figure out the mystery behind her true origins.!<
ImpactMiserable93842026-01-04 13:53
They do be writing anything in the title, huh.

Another gem from the puppy mill of manga, Square Enix.
Puzzleheaded_Duck1322026-01-04 13:59
Whos the mother?
TheGreatMozinsky2026-01-04 14:02
We're still churning these out in 2026?
Lovely...
JP_Zikoro2026-01-04 14:19
Oh! I remember this one. The art style is way different than the Manga that made the MC look older. Haven't read it since it got licensed but from what I read, I really enjoyed.

PEAK PARENTAL ANIME
mickcs2026-01-04 14:59
Actually, one of the original and fun read,
not mindless kick out of the party template.
zenithfury2026-01-04 15:14
You'd think Sword Dad would get another season with all this parental anime trending. :-/
Careful_Ad_90772026-01-04 16:11
As an "adopted daughter" Isekai/fantasy manga enjoyer somehow this one managed to not feel interesting, or to put it in other terms, it does not hit the feels.
This only from.thr manga it would not be the first time that the anime can elevate the material,.or the first time thatbthenlaga fails where the light novel succeeds ( Inal looking at you, fake Saintess of the year).
jackofslayers2026-01-04 16:54
Can someone please confirm there is no timeskip in the source material?
Not tryna get bunny dropped again

moneyshot69012026-01-04 18:29

Beastnoscope2026-01-04 21:35

thisperson3452026-01-05 04:18

Motherfucker looks 30
To *them*, it's old.
That said, it is ironically my #1 favorite manga. Friggin hilarious.
"You wouldn't want to be friends with an old auntie, right?!"
Never has a character been so toxic that it becomes cute (I'm a psycho, aren't I?)
Yeah, I'll stick to being the cool uncle thanks. I need to be able to leave once I've had enough of the kiddos.
Of course he was.
It just makes the plot feel so fuckin contrived. Like none of the characters were actually living in the world before the series started, outside of interacting with the MC. The fact that there are like 5-10+ anime like this at this point is unbelievable to me
"What are you talking about! No one can do that!"
"lol yeah right our old guy did it no problem and he was trash! So you must be less than trash!"
Like can the combat mage they never kick out multicast 100 spells?
The fact that it gets this specific and can still apply to like a dozen series is fucking depressing. It's a shame, too, because I think the general premise of "kicked out of a party" has the potential to be pretty interesting. If, of course, it didn't trod along the same tired path over and over and fucking over again
Except he has an insane amount of luck, where the stars always align for him just when the villain attacks.
What's even more depressing is that this could be said about many other recent tropes... Every season you get several anime you could just swear you've already watched :| I used to be a sucker for Isekai and I can't stand it anymore...
The issue with basically every other Banished from the heroes party that followed was that they got turned into revenge power fantasies. But that was never the point of the original
he alway was gonna lag behind but it not his job to fight, he the emotional support for the team, especially for the his sister the hero
like man was super critical to the team and it only the Sage ego and the Guide self issue that make him leave
Was one of the few that is not a revenge story but just a guy restarting his life in a new profession and being supported by his friends and teaching new members in the guild.
However if the MC is absolutely clueless, then they were probably working as a hired porter for a party of narcissistic otherwise-hopeless adventurers instead.
[Plot relevant spoilers]>!MC finds out by accident that the "disease" was actually a curse that was intended to force him to retire since he was becoming rather self-destructive in his will to protect others.!<
It’s just an excuse to include a popular trope in the description and/or get the story started. Like how many of today’s fantasy anime could’ve easily worked without the reincarnation part.
Kind of like some of the most popular content creators on youtube are those thay play the algorhitm, use bait thumbnails and inflammatory titles.
We live in a day and age where marketing your brand is more important than the content of your brand, as sad as that may be.
Basically the MCs in these shows are like bay leaves. The party can't tell what they add to the recipes but they definitely notice when they're gone.
I'd recommend reading the novel or at least the manga, the anime, unfortunately, was a subpar adaptation (as always).
**webcomic where Corporate boss throws employee out of window**
>Then proceeds to join Demon's Incorporated and improve their evil initiatives by 500%
You know, Id watch a parody like that.
# If It's for My Daughter, I'd Even Defeat a Demon Lord
It's like Usagi Drop but fantasy. And since this title fantasy too... \[monkey's ehehe noises\]
Please studio do the justice.. This is ojisan feels like true spell caster
I’m not really into this genre of anime, so I’m probably going to sk…
> has an adorable daughter
Goddammit! My greatest weakness…
(*Adds anime to plan-to-watch list*)
The... Erm... Justification for kicking him out, in the manga's version, was odd.
People here: Oh I have read the manga. It is peak.
