mmm grimgar ashes and illusions

The_Observations2026-01-04 11:59

you may like made in abyss as well.

One_Bend74232026-01-04 12:42

*MiA* would fall under OPs example of torture porn.

The_Observations2026-01-04 12:43

when I think of torture porn I'm thinking revenge hero or redo of healer imo.

EppingRabbit2026-01-04 12:22

Oh i absolutely love grimgar i even bought some of the light novels to read it! I also have started made in abysss but i need to actually finish it

The_Observations2026-01-04 12:34

well guess I may have not given new ones but at least I had the right idea then lol, how about goblin slayer? Fair warning the first episode makes it appear a lot worse than what it is.

EppingRabbit2026-01-04 12:52

Lol ive also seen goblin slayer. Lol it is the right idea

The_Observations2026-01-04 13:07

ah gosh darn it, shin sekai yori then, it's been a long time and it's foggy in my mind but I know it's dark, or maybe madoka magica, dororo is pretty dark too. They are fantasy but not medieval fantasy though, maybe akame ga kill?

EppingRabbit2026-01-04 13:34

Lol ok the only one ive watch from those is akame ga kill thanks :3

The father of dark fantasy is berserk, the original one. The anime is great, reading the manga is a whole other level!

kngt2026-01-04 12:03

sentenced to be a hero and roll over and die in the current season

venger_steelheart2026-01-04 12:51

heavy metal, bastard

iori772026-01-04 14:06

made in abyss is dark

Quantum_Croissant2026-01-04 18:33

Roll over and die starts airing in a couple days, it's great dark fantasy, lots of darkness, gore, etc, while at the same time it maintains a hopeful feeling with the main characters fighting to change things and having light-hearted moments to break up the serious parts

Dark, but not Torture Porn?

Do you happen to have examples of anime that might be closest to what you'd expect?

In the meanwhile, some random attempts:

1). "The Summer When Hikaru Died"

2). "Takopi's Original Sin"

3) "Erased"

4). "Dungeon Meshi" (comedic tone, dark world)

5). "Made in Abyss" (but you already watched it, and the lore is a bit melodramatic)

6). "Dark Gathering"

7). "Higurashi Naku no Koro Ni" (slasher film, watch in chronological order, pretty ancient adaptation)

8). "Another" (the "final destination" anime)
