Looking for a non Sci-Fi creepy anime

Hello, I'm looking for a creepy anime that doesn't have the Sci-Fi cyberpunk futuristic vibes

Example:
Higurashi, Another, Shiki, Summertime Render, TPN S1

Hi Qwertyuiopasdfggggg, it seems like you might be looking for new anime to watch!

The users of this subreddit came up with [a chart of anime recommendations for newcomers and veterans](https://i.redd.it/0w1v880jtq661.png) and [an awesome longer flowchart](https://i.redd.it/vdzlkodz19c71.png). Maybe you can find something there that you'll like \^.\^

I can't think of anything rn but wanted to comment to say I love Shiki and I don't hear enough mentions of it.

Highly recommended:

- Dark Gathering: Semi shonen-vibe, but really nailed the creepy atmosphere

- Mieruko-chan: This one is part comedy instead, but I can say some scenes were unnerving

Less well-received, but I think they're okay:

- Mayoiga

- Kokkoku

Seconding Dark Gathering and Mieruko. As to Mayoiga, I'd say it's actually a pretty decent absurdist/surrealist dark comedy (vaguely akin to Bunuel, though not quite the same level). ;-)

Thank you. Taken at purely face value played completely straight it'd often be too cheesy and dumb, but I feel like the clearly intentional humor in numerous places in this series goes undersold. As a comedic horror or horror parody it's really enjoyable and often even quite hilarious (and I'm not usually someone who gets many laughs elicited by scripted humor in anime or otherwise).

The only theory I can muster when I see all the super low ratings and bad reviews talking about it as if it *were* played completely straight throughout is that it was either too subtle for its own good and/or the people in question aren't horror fans as a lot of the deliberate silliness and mockery of conventions of the genre feel a little like inside jokes if you've been watching horror for a long time.

Oh yeah Dark Gathering don't know why I stopped watching it

I'll give it another go thanks

>Higurashi, Another, Shiki, Summertime Render, TPN S

These aren't sci-fi. Not even one, so do you want similar? Or real sci-fi?

**Sci-fi**:

Please Save My Earth

Eden of the East

Fantastic children

Plastic memories

Chobits

Steins Gate

Heavenly delusion

**Horror**

*Ghost hunt* (from the same author of Shiki)

Petshop of Horrors

Gakkougurashi (Horror, slice of life)

Tasogare Otome x Amnesia (Horror Supernatural, Romance, Mistery, drama)

Shinrei Tantei Yakumo (Horror and Supernatural)

Dark Gathering

Shadow's House

Ghost Hound

Qwertyuiopasdfggggg2026-01-04 18:23

You might've misread it I'm looking for a **non** sci-fi

Gullible_Bat_54082026-01-04 18:39

Ok. I misunderstood you, i thought that you thought you had watched Horror but mistook for creepy sci-fi, because of the title and examples of your post.

Sorry!

Happy New Year!
