I went there last year, I didn't even know about numazu, until I drop from Train, and Aquors Poster all over the city, bus and public space
Multiple revolutions have occured across the world, primarily in Asia, but a couple in other places too, using the Straw Hat's flag as their symbol.
I mean the anime is literally about beating the crap out of tyrants so i think we probably should've seen this coming.
I don't think that's that well-known
The same can be said about Chihayafuru and Karuta, especially with international audience not knowing that niche card game.
With Akane-banashi getting an anime adaptation about rakugo, hoping the same thing will happen.
I read an interview with a couple of Brazilian players during the Tokyo Olympics where they admitted to being Haikyuu fans and talked about its influence on them. I also read about its influence on some of the Japanese players.
I watched some YouTube videos by a guy who got into volleyball through Haikyuu and got really good at it.
I’m sure there is loads more evidence out there, so I think this would be a good example for your research.
This was THE cultural event to witness.
When Yuri on Ice aired it got a lot of people into figure skating, as a sport and fans of figure skaters.
Slam Dunk boosted basketball popularity.
Drops of God influenced a lot of wine prices, and I think got more people into wine. It's manga only and live action for now but an anime did get announced. So maybe we'll see more impact in the future? Something to keep an eye on.
So they were likely aware of their ties to the animated film, but probably surprised at how much their tank grew in popularity and how much money came in donations.
Edit: also as reference,
This was how the [BT-42 was originally stored](https://youtu.be/UVWCG4srUoA) in the museum
And this is [how it is after the shelter was built](https://youtu.be/TXx53T5Axek&t=1213) after a 40,000 Euro donation. The shelter built also protected other pieces of the collection so the museum collection as a whole was able to benefit from the [Japanese’s depiction of it.](https://youtu.be/jn1La5Y1zkQ)
This was back in [2013](https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/interest/2013-11-16/girls-und-panzer-storms-oarai), but you’ll probably still find a lot of merchandise and tie-in to GUP in Oarai even today, especially since the movies are still airing
And then Apothecary Diaries caused his mother to choose a whole season of Maomao over a family trip.
It also influenced a lot of shrines, especially those dedicated to certain ships.
It even revitalized the economy of certain towns from COVID. Kure in Hiroshima is a great example.
Touken Ranbu did the same, but with National Museums and on Japanese weapons.
Basically a lot of things in Japan used anime to promote themselves.
You have Onsen Musume line for Hot Springs in Japan.
There are several animes that has tie in with Japanese railway lines.
The [first movie “Der Film”](https://youtu.be/jn1La5Y1zkQ) featured a rare BT-42 Finnish tank, of which only one example [survives in Finland that sat outside in the elements without a shelter](https://youtu.be/UVWCG4srUoA). Fans of the anime/movie helped the [museum raise funds to build a shelter for the BT-42 for its longevity](https://youtu.be/TXx53T5Axek&t=1213).
Last time I heard, a running theory was that it was a prank by medical students, but take that with a grain of salt.
Bocchi the rock also revitalized the instrument industry in Japan.
A more general one could be pachislots or adult games on that side.
God luck with your paper
E.g. marrying waifus, or that dude who attacked Kyoto Animation.
There's also something to be said about how anime openings and endings engage with the music industry, but I lack the knowledge to properly articulate it.
I've also made omurice and dumped an egg in rice.
...eggs ftw I guess.
Karage
Katsudon
Miso Soup
Onsen Eggs
Taiyiaki
Japanese style curry
Coffee Jelly
I'm sure there are others, from all the food related anime that I've watched.
One Punch Man caused a new wave of popularity for bodyweight exercise, as Saitama is basically doing the Charles Atlas workout.
Gurren Lagann's message of overcoming nihilism theough willpower and never giving up has legitimately helped people in difficult situations continue living.
And Future Generations is watching Blue Lock. You can even find so many content of Blue Lock irl, marketed to japanese HS and College student, in japanese of course.
As Other Mentioned, Haikyuu also make increase in Volleyball club in Japanese HS.
So Does Chihayafuru. I heard they got sudden influx of new caruta player after season 1 and 2.
Later down the line, the Anime movie "Dragonball Super: Broly" would heavily feature these chants.
An anime public event was inspired by a similar type of setting to sports then went on to inspire future Anime material; I think that's pretty neat!

Like I said, kinda morbid, but imo it also shows how many lives a single person can deeply connect to with anime.
Yes, that Himmel, from Sousou No Frieren.
Like they even included a PSA about it.
Edit: Zombieland Saga was already mentioned, which also specifically highlights the province of Saga in Japan.
Yuri on Ice made an impact on figure skating as well.
Haruhi inspired a 4chan user to come up with a math theorem
Horse racing is a very expensive sport. A cheap, thoroughbred horse will run about $20,000. For a competitive race horse, expect to pay 20 times that amount.
Then you have stable fees. Expect to pay about $1,000 a month for that. Or you can buy your own stable and pasture, but, depending on where you are, you're looking at about $250,000 and up
Then you have a trainer: look to pay the trainer about $5,000/ month. Then you have Jockey fees. You have to pay them regardless if they win or lose.
Horse racing is a richman's sport. Likewise, polo because start-up prices are so high. Stock car racing is a drop in the bucket by comparison.
Compare to volleyball. You can get poles, net, and ball for under $200. Outfit? Under $100. Coach? Most high schools provide that.
If you want to use sports to show how anime affects reality, ask what the investment is. You won't find a racehorse owner that ever said they got into it because of anime.
