I loved the nod to the ending theme "Jane Doe" at the the beginning, and the inclusion of the breakout idol group HANA as backup dancers, though I lost it when Kenshi hopped on the Beam-mobile.
For those that don't know, the Kōhaku Uta Gassen is an annual New Year's Eve television special featuring many of the year's top artists. Kenshi's appearance on the program was his first live performance of "IRIS OUT"

Hadn’t put a face to the voice and i … thought he was a lot older for that voice
Pristine_Cod51892026-01-04 18:32
He's 34, been around a good few years now.
EscherichiAntisColi2026-01-04 19:59
Yeah thats not the “old” i was going for hehe
KTR19882026-01-04 22:10
I've always had him pegged as in his 30s because he's a legit fan of most of the franchises he produces songs for.

God, Iris out is such a good song. I want to ride the Beam mobile.
People in Japanese Twitter pointed out that at the end Kenshi is hitting the "check out my coach" pose from Medalist (it's one of his favorite series), because Hana (the group beside him) are doing the next OP for that anime. That's a neat detail.

Appreciate the performance not being cut to shit. His [live performance of the S1 opening](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HSNWJbkIsmo) is unwatchable but this was great.

If there are any Hana fans out there, could you help name them? Lowkey got me intrigued bc of this performance but I'm having a hard time knowing who is who.
Phyrexian_Overlord2026-01-04 19:37
I know they were saying this was live, but I'm still uncertain.
VideoGamesForU2026-01-05 12:21
na you can actually hear that out, would be a lot cleaner otherwise
Anatotoiris132026-01-05 00:21
I love itt
SukunaSpecialGrade2026-01-05 01:08
I love that song and being able to hear him actually sing it is cool.
vantheman92026-01-05 19:18
live performance? Seems more like a music video, I don't see any audience in the zoom out
But for a music video, the first 2:40 of it was a single cut, pretty impressive
track_cyclist2026-01-05 22:25
This is not a music video, it is a live performance. Most of the performances on Kohaku take place in a theater in front of an invite only audience of guests with a panel of judges, but due to the rapid fire nature of the performance some take place on other stages or venues and are shared with the audience and judges via live stream. Definitely not the first time they did something outdoors like this. This was also broadcast live nationwide.
vantheman92026-01-05 23:45
to me all that says is the line is blurring
I consider an in-person audience to be an essential element of what makes a live performance though
MyNameIs-Anthony2026-01-06 08:24
Why? Street performers are a thing.
vantheman92026-01-06 09:42
street performers at least have the audience of the passerbys, here it seems like they blocked off that section of the street to prevent that
Words mean things, and they change over time, it's just semantics, I'm stressing too hard about it here
BravestCheetah2026-01-07 00:07
Thats a lot of dancers alright
Pandographyph2026-01-08 02:44
ty is still here, they put the performance private idk why
sammy17292892026-01-08 07:19
