Anime with amazing character depth and development?

I LOVE animes with amazing character developments and also with really good dept. I Loved evangelion because of how deep shinji and literally all the characters were, you took a very deep dive into their head. I loved deathnote because you also get a good look at Lights character, also how powerful he gets throughout the story. Youre gonna hate me but i loved demon slayer too just because of how much tanjiro develops. i also loved hajime no ippo becuase ippo grows a lot too. I really didnt like jjk because Yuji is a shallow character and also he doesnt develop, he was insanely strong from the begining and doesnt change.

What are some other animes with really good character depts and character developments? I am about to start jjba pt 2 since i had finished pt one a while ago but didnt move on. Does it also have good dept and development? Tell me which and also if my sense of depth is stupid

One piece great character and world building

SinbadVetra2026-01-05 04:46

Meh

Firm_Resolve_95282026-01-05 04:48

Too much fillers tbh

Lazy-Rabbit-7772026-01-05 04:52

It might have 40 episodes max as filler and that to out of 1000+ episodes

Firm_Resolve_95282026-01-05 11:09

I'll be generous here and believe what you're saying. But if we count the flashbacks, the pacing of the series (They don't even cover a chapter of the manga mostly on an episode.), recaps and the scenes where they are just staring at each other. Almost 1/4 of the screentime just adds nothing to the plot except drag the whole entire series down and this is me being conservative.

But truly check it you can quickly search up "How much fillers are on one piece?" You'll quickly find out there are around 90 episodes worth of fillers on One Piece.

Motor_Difference_8022026-01-05 05:00

One pace fixes that somewhat

xVashTSx982026-01-05 06:11

Why all the downvotes? Is it popular to hate one piece now?

RealFridge1002026-01-08 04:46

pre-time skip not really, luffy just been op

The_Persistence2026-01-05 04:46

Clannad. Just about every character in that anime has a story to tell.

Which is greatly expanded upon in the Visual Novel

Xaviorffviii2026-01-05 08:14

I actually came in here to say this

I don't think there's many that come close to Clannad and it's second season Clannad:After Story

Firm_Resolve_95282026-01-05 04:47

If you’re looking for anime with insane character depth and development, Mushuko Tensei is honestly THE BEST!!!!! But fair warning—you need some anime experience before diving in. It’s not for people who get easily grossed out or frustrated by Rudy’s behavior. He’s a shut-in leaning on hén*** as a coping mechanism for past trauma, so don’t expect him to magically become a perfect person overnight.

ududbsisysveiudvdid2026-01-05 04:52

> anime experience

what sort of anime should I watch beforehand to prepare myself for mushoku tensei?

Motor_Difference_8022026-01-05 05:01

Idk what he’s saying. I guess he’s saying be familiar with common anime tropes with characters being pervy? The main character is a complete perv and does nasty shit that’s why. And he’s still pretty bad when he’s older

Firm_Resolve_95282026-01-05 05:20

Mushuko Tensei is basically about a shut-in, terrible sore loser who gets isekai’d to another world with a totally different set of moral values. Expecting him to magically change just because he got transported is insane—even though that’s a super common trope in modern isekais. What makes this anime stand out is that the world is much bigger than just the MC, and the story actually cares about it. I’m not saying you have to watch it, but if you can get past his pervy scenes—and honestly, most episodes barely focus on that—it’s worth noting how much the series develops the world and its characters beyond Rudy. I won’t defend his actions, but this pretty much sums up my take on it.

Firm_Resolve_95282026-01-05 05:25

Probably anime's that are kinda in the politically and socially grayzones but still considered a masterpiece because of its story.

baseballlover7232026-01-05 04:49

You might enjoy [Re:Zero](https://myanimelist.net/anime/31240/Re_Zero_kara_Hajimeru_Isekai_Seikatsu). There's a lot of depth to the characters imo (even if it doesn't always seem like that at a surface glance) and a ton of character development for the MC.

LongjumpingShip36572026-01-05 04:50

Mobile Suit Gundam

Shinji from Evangelion was inspired by Amuro from Gundam

😂

RealFridge1002026-01-08 04:45

I tried watching it and it has character development but in the most basic manner ngl

Long-Ad60112026-01-05 05:31

Characters with development? Well, all the characters in To Hero X develop quite a bit and change throughout the episodes. Plus, their stories are very varied, and they're never the same character each time they appear. My personal recommendation would be The Apothecary's Diaries, especially the development of the two protagonists, Jinshi and Mao Mao. They're very closely linked, and their development speaks to the value of each character simply for being human, showing that they are more than their appearance suggests. I'd also say that Blue Period has great development in its protagonist. I really like that anime; please watch it.

Cyd_arts2026-01-05 05:32

Yona of the dawn

cocknballtorture_god2026-01-05 05:38

To your eternity is literally the definition of character development. It is a anime that I would recommend to any person on Earth whether they're into anime or not. It is a must-watch to your eternity to your eternity to your eternity a 1,000%

Xaviorffviii2026-01-05 08:34

I heavily endorse this message

mlcarson2026-01-05 05:40

Clannad. Most of the secondary characters get their own arc. Should be followed up with Kanon (2006)

Xaviorffviii2026-01-05 08:30

Kanon doesn't get enough love, I agree with this pick, but Clannad is absolutely the winner 100%

Minimum-Ebb86592026-01-05 05:42

I think March Comes in like a Lion and/or Your Lie in April could be interesting for you

Left-Night-11252026-01-05 05:51

Basicly all of mecha has this, Gundam, Cross Ange, Code Geass, Aldnoah Zero, Godannar, Darling in the Franxx etc etc.

O Maidens in Your Savage Season

Scum's Wish

Fruits Basket

Xaviorffviii2026-01-05 08:28

I see these posts and more than 1/2 the time the OP never responds to anyone. Kinda irritating

Regardless my pick would be Clannad and it's second season Clannad: After Story

There's others if that's not your genre

Erased

Space Battleship Yamato (Absolutely)

Yona of the Dawn (I saw was mentioned, def agreed)

Snow white with the red hair (a person favorite)

Spice and wolf (imo)

A Certain scientific Railgun

Fruits Basket

Charlotte

Gargantia on the Verdurous Planet (for development)

Mushoku Tensei Jobless Reincarnation

The ones you named aren't quite as amazing depth and development, so you have a LOT out there, it's hard to think of them all tbh

RealFridge1002026-01-08 04:45

Well yeah idk what to respond to animes ive never watched 😭

i upvote what ill watch

Eureka seven but you will hate them easily 😅 they are mostly dislikable. There is this character called roland, this guy abuse the mc (14 years old) through 2/3 of the series: punching, kicking, shouting,... Many times misunderstand the situation or just being violence without explain the mc why (it's not mc's fault). You will have to watch this guy being a man-child for many many episode.
