Anime that will lighten the mood and help me escape reality
I feeling very stressed and emotionally drained today...I am looking for something that will either make me smile... Or something so engaging that will divert my attention and immerse me in its world..
I don't mind something serious as long as it is very engaging..

It's some top-tier premium fantasy escapism.
I’ve been re-creating the recipe too! its fun
Or at least, that's been my experience with the show.
Fun little heartwarming comedy. Season 2 will start airing next week, so its a good time to check it out
The descriptor is a restaurant that opens a portal to a strange new world, where fantastic creatures enter the restaurant and partake of its exotic food, with many of them becoming regular patrons. But while Nekoya mainly offers food, it is also a place where relationships are forged, inspirations made, and salvation for the needy is provided.
Sounds super wholesome and maybe what you are looking for.
Campfire Cooking in Another World with my Absurd Skill
SPY x FAMILY
I personally recommend Laid-Back Camp (my #1 of these), Flying Witch, K-On!, Mono, Non Non Biyori, and Sweetness & Lightning.
It's hilarious.
At least everything else will "feel lighter" afterwards
Don't hesitate if you're not really into volleyball, the anime is amazing anyway, give it a try!
It really changed my life. It kept me glued to the screen, inspired me immensely, and moved me (a lot).
There's no better title I can recommend.
Now I'm off to rewatch!
Then there's Teasing Master Takagi-san. Cute (and actually funny) humor and wholesome romance is what you are gonna get. I think I spent 70% of the series with a smile on my face, 15% laughing out loud and 15% crying or tearing up in wholesome emotion (not sadness). This is a romcom, and very episodic, so don't expect a developed plot beyond the slow build up of the main relationship.
If you want a more down-to-earth but still incredibly wholesome magical girl anime compared to Cardcaptor Sakura, Ojamajo Doremi is what you are looking for. The characters are less idealised and act way more their age, but are still incredibly likeable and well-written, and the romance is almost not focused at all, in case you don't want a romance. This one is pretty long, though, 200-ish episodes in total.
Love, Chunibyo and other delusions is a romcom with somewhat similar vibes to Teasing Master Takagi-san, incredibly cute and wholesome romance with great humor, but a bit more drama and plot other than the relationship building. And some incredibly good fight animations for a romcom.
The Angel Next Door is a pure romance, with almost no comedy, but, while both characters have a bit of a dark and traumatic story, the anime doesn't dwell too much on that, rather uses that to build up their relationship. Overall, it is an incredibly feel good and very diabetic romance.
Then, there's something like Ai Yori Aoshi, if you want something with a little more fan-servicey comedy but still very wholesome and sweet. The main couple starts dating very early, but has to keep it a secret, giving rise to the harem situation.
Urusei Yatsura (Remake)
Notable titles:
- Aria
- Flying Witch
- Natsume Yuijinchou
- Yuru Camp
- Non Non Biyori
- Tamayura
- Healer Girl
- K-On!
One Piece is good too, but it's very long
Dog Days
Slayers
and less popular one that i also enjoyed, Sky Blue Utility
...
But never predictable. XD
im kidding, go watch angel next door spoils me rotten or saint cecilia and pastor lawrence. both made me grin from ear to ear for so hard and so long my face just hurts after watching
Along the same vein, daily life of high school boys, both are kinda grounded in the imagination / hyperbole of high schoolers joking around.
As for engaging? Something that always entices me into its world is black lagoon. Feels almost surreal? I’ve tried so hard to find a real life location of where it is because I swear it has to be real. Lawless towns are also a fun to watch.
Acro trip
My Deer Friend Nokotan
Asobi asobase
Aho girl
Delusional Monthly magazine
Ya know what I just finished watching this movie like 30 min ago and it was amazing. It is extremely engaging, a bit sad, but ultimately kept me entertained the entire time. If you have about 2 hours-go for it.
