Original Anime Movies.

"Original" in the context of anime from what I've seen usually implies something that's not an adaptation of a work in another medium which is different from what they're asking. [Look Back](https://www.livechart.me/anime/12529) is a recent example of a movie that's based on a manga but isn't associated with any show, but if you called that an original anime movie it would be misleading to me at least.

Yeah. I misunderstood what they were asking for.

Literally just not true
OVA stands for "**O**riginal **V**ideo **A**nimation" and is basically the same as direct to video. OVA can be connected to series or be standalone they can also be movies or series

Yes I know, isn’t that the OP asked about?
timpkmn892026-01-05 23:26
Nope
Nettysocks2026-01-05 23:27
Fair enough, I had been told wrong myself

Non-franchise films.
Usually we just call those “movies” and the ones attached to TV series are the ones in a special category.

[Letterboxd has a list of the top 100 animated movies and it does try to weed out movies that aren’t linked to a series](https://boxd.it/1jMxg) there are a couple but for the most part it does contain what you’re looking for!

I saw this, but the list has animated movies, movies from anime series.

Standalone anime movie maybe, but I honestly just call them movies, you can find all sort of anime movies made in japan in this [link](https://letterboxd.com/films/popular/genre/animation/country/japan/) , not all but I feel like most of the first pages are standalone
