Recommendations for my girlfriend

Im dating a 28 year old Japanese lady and she recently lost her dad. He was big into anime and they were watching demon slayer when he passed. Shes getting back into anime but hasnt watched it since she was like 10 or something.

What are some of the best anime in recent years?

She doesn't like lots of gore although liked demon slayer and heavenly delusion. She used to watch detective Conan we both prefer short anime. Please no isekai slop its why i stopped watching anime.

If you’re dealing with grief or at least carrying on after someone has passed I feel frieren might be a good fit but I’m 50/50 on this kinda

**Frieren** is really really good. But it deals a lot of grief and regrets over not having done enough with someone who has since passed away. So whether it's a good idea for her to watch it now depends on her. It can help heal, or it might be too soon, everyone is different on this regard. But it is truly an amazing show. There's a good reason why it ranks at the top of the MAL rankings

If she's interested in watching shows about dealing with grief about those that have passed on I can recommend **Violet Evergarden**. It's incredibly beautiful, in both story and animation, and made me bawl my eyes out. But again, it depends on the person if they're ready for this.

**Apothecary Diaries** is another must watch. This one isn't sad, but instead has comedy. But it's also serious about it's subject matter. It's a mystery and romance set in a Tang dynasty Chinese like imperial Palace.

If she's into battle anime like Demon Slayer I can recommend **Jujitsu Kaisen**, it's awesome

These last few years have been really good for romance shows as well. So if you guys are interested in that I have a bunch of recommendations for those as well

I know you said you don’t like isekai but Konosuba is an absolute treaaaat. It’s not like how normal issekai slops are, It’s very very funny absolutely loved it. It’s like a isekai parody. He thinks he’s going to another world with cheat powers etc and have an op goddess with him when Infact she’s isn’t 😂 so their in a new world, broke with no help yet tasked to kill the demon king 😂 they make a adventure team full of wrong uns. Loved the comedy

Dandadan - it has it all what real anime should have. Unlucky still outgoing

Katanagatari - im supprised by this anime. Simple to watch. Just pacing is good in this anime its difficult to notice 1 ep is 40min.

Dont look 'best anime' cos you will end up with solo leveling, jujutsu kaisen, chaisawman, my hero academia and they are medicore at best.

You mentioned no isekai but if you would give a shot konosuba is top of the top(pure comedy)

Jojo's new seson coming soon. Jojo's blizzare adventure is anime diffrent than any else. There so no other similar. You gonna love it or hate it.

I would like to recommend you good series that are completed. But problem is here: current sesoning every single anime ruin for me almost every single one of them. Waiting at least 5 for new season.
Frieren for example... Even if it's good one i dont think story will end.

Neon genesis Evangelion - legendary anime, after 30 years still no 1
Tengen toppa gurren lagan - after 20 years didnt aged. Story is rather simple,
Full metal achemist - king for reason was siting all the time at rank 1 for so many years
Gintama - briliant, but you need watch more anime to enjoy it. They have a lot of refferences. (Gintama has more sesons... But who know how many times they was ending the show XD)
