Welcome to the I My Me! Strawberry Eggs 25th anniversary rewatch!
^Just ^ignore ^the ^25th ^anniversary ^is ^in ^July…
Crossdressing and comedy. It has a long, storied history.
Nowadays, crossdressing in comedy is considered insensitive with accusations of it being transphobic and borderline homophobic. And while there is probably some truth to that, the reality is a lot of times it’s played with sincerity.
Some Like It Hot and Tootsie are two of the greatest comedies of all time. Mrs. Doubtfire is considered iconic and a defining part of Robin Williams legacy. All three movies play the crossdressing up for laughs but there’s quite sincerity about it to where the joke isn’t just “Lol, it’s a guy dressed as a woman”. And I think that sincerity applies to I My Me! Strawberry Eggs.
Strawberry Eggs, which is how I’ll be referring to it going forward, is very much a product of its time. It has that wacky slapstick type of humor common in anime at the time, like with shows such as Ranma and Love Hina. It also has a lot of heart that I think makes it a show worth revisiting.
This is easily the most obscure show I’ve ever hosted. I hope with this rewatch I can introduce people to this series that have never seen it before so they can become fans of it just like me. It’s been over two years since I last saw the show, so will my memory hold up or will it prove to be an outdated relic best forgotten to time? Let’s find out!
With that out of the way, let’s begin.
I’m watching the dub, by the way.
Sometimes I want to treat my bosses like Maria from Frankenstein.
Principal being stern
She really is like a cult leader
A physical examination is coming up.
[Hibiki rn](#spooked)
All the students talking to one another.
One of the students last year posted the results of the exams on the bulletin board.
**Glances at Kōji and Tofu**
Vice principal is eager to make sure the physical exam date doesn't get leaked.
I actually agree with her on this issue.
Tofu in a disguise
But Kōji says he's not interested unless it involves the girls uniforms.
Based uniform fetishist
But they're wearing their gym clothes, so it's on.
Gym for the boys, the music practice room for the girls.
Fujio looks stern as two boys talk to each other.
Vice principal talking to principal
Principal mistakes the word hackers for hookers.
You know, like you do
Akira is waiting outside for some reason.
Maybe he's one of the hookers
Fujio chastising two suspects
"Men are all such worthless idiots!"
Asuka, is that you?
Suddenly, Akira grabs her
He tells her to cut it out before they get serious.
This causes her to blush
I ship Akira and Fujio far more than Akira and Fuko.
Akira offers to the boys to collect the data.
"I just want to see the principal panic. I'd really enjoy that."
All the male tenants bathing together, including the dog.
Tofu looks like a turtle
Kōji acting like a perv, what else is new?
Now the girls are bathing
Fujio looks better with her hair down.
Seiko, I don't think anyone is describing you as flat chested.
One of the girls say breasts are very important to a woman.
"You have to have breasts to fall in love."
Yeah, I don't know about that, Miho.
Fuko just now realizing she has small breasts.
And then she gropes herself.
You know, like you do
Fuko wants to know if bigger is better.
I get the feeling AgentOfACROSS is going to hate this episode.
Tofu digging in the trash
If Tofu and Fuko were an item, would their ship name be Tofuko?
Girls eating lunch
She is lamenting having the smallest chest
Akira with the detective gadgets from his dad?
Hibiki looking on from afar
I like him taking off the voice modifier to spook them.
Oh boy. The Vice principal heard that.
[](#forgotkeys)
Music class now
The teacher sure has a lot of jiggle in her step.
We see the device being used
Meanwhile, vice principal proposes a physical exam for the faculty.
That is only those new to their school.
Hibiki has his work cut out for him.
Hey, there's Fujio
She tells Hibiki Fuko has fainted.
Fuko in the infirmary. She's apparently suffering from anemia.
Fujio blaming Akira for why she fainted.
Akira still seems to consider this breast size thing a competition.
Hibiki at home, wondering what he should do.
Maybe Lulu can help him
She tells him to just have confidence. That way, he won't be caught.
You know, like a lie detector test.
Kōji and Tofu assessing how to break in.
Fujio practicing her fighting skills.
Time for the physical exams
The guys listening on a radio
Akira looks like he's above all this.
**Ran out of space. Part two in the replies.**
Time for Hibiki's exam
An internal checkup. That means no clothes.
[](#forgotkeys)
Miho has 87 centimeters
But before Fuko can get her bust measured, Akira turns the radio off.
He has to return the stuff to his dad.
As Hibiki is about to strip, he gets called over by the music teacher.
It's... it's Fuko. She faked her chest size.
In fact, most of the girls here are wearing pads.
"What really counts is not the size of your breasts, but the size of the heart that's behind them."
Damn straight
Hibiki tells Fuko her heart is going to get even bigger as she grows up.
I like the moral of this episode.
Hibiki says they're going to retake the measurements.
Unfortunately, Hibiki still has his exams to return to.
Lol at Fuko holding a bunch of breast pads.
Vice principal surprised that Hibiki past his exams.
Lulu explains the doc was her friend.
Course, she says she did this because Hibiki has to pay the rent.
Meanwhile, Kōji dressed as a doctor and Tofu as a nurse.
But they missed the physical exam.
They thought it was a 3, but it was actually a 13, which is 1 in the afternoon.
And now granny threatens to shoot them, pointing a gun at them.
Overall, this to me was kinda a mixed bag. A lot of it was infuriating, but I like the result with Hibiki saying chest sizes don't matter. This was actually a pretty important episode because it establishes a couple plot points. It established Akira trying to stick it to the principal for some reason. It also established Fujio having a crush on Akira, which could potentially have some ramifications later on if Akira has a crush on Fujio's friend Fuko. But perhaps most importantly, we had the vice principal trying to get Hibiki fired by proving that he's a man. At the very beginning, it seemed as if the head principal would be the biggest obstacle for Hibiki seeing as how she doesn't like men and Hibiki wanted to stuck it to her. With this episode, the vice principal character becomes more important than the head principal and it becomes a question of what depths will she sink to to prove Hibiki is hiding something.
I imagine this will be more important going forward.
Overall, I'd put this episode ahead of episode 2 but behind episodes 1, 3, and 4. I like the idea of the physical exam stuff, and Hibiki having to take one was some good tension, but all the breast talk was kinda mind numbing to me. Yeah, it served a purpose and the resolution was great, but besides the message I'm kinda whatever on. I guess my thing is the whole basis of the show is how intolerant the principal is of men and how she's in the wrong for thinking all men are bad people. But with almost all the guys in the show wanting to spy the girls, it almost comes off like she has a point and is in the right.
Either way, this was a pretty important episode in terms of setting up the direction of a couple characters. I'd say its significance is far greater than its overall quality.
They're necessary, but I don't like doing them.
> What are your thoughts on Akira having a grudge against the principal?
I hope we eventually learn why
> What are your thoughts on it being teased that Fujio has a crush on Akira?
That feels like it's leading somewhere
> What are your thoughts on the episode establishing what is seemingly going to be a major plot point going forward which is the vice principal trying to get Hibiki fired?
Definitely adds a bit of tension to the show.
> Do you like the way the show handled the breast size stuff? Do you think it could've been done more tastefully?
It was infuriating watching it but I like the overall message. It continues the trend of Hibiki being the voice of reason.
I thought it was a pretty fun episode. Not as deep as the previous ones maybe, but still a good episode. Although I don't necessarily agree with the message here. Breast is love, breast is life. Although small breasts are nice, big breasts are nicer!
And yeah, the vice principal is definitely gonna be the stone in Hibiki's shoe. And Akira 100% has the hots for Fuko.
> Overall, I'd put this episode ahead of episode 2 but behind episodes 1, 3, and 4. She absolutely does have a point lol. The problem is that you shouldn't generalize and assume everyone is bad because there's some (or in this case an excessive amount of) bad apples.
> Either way, this was a pretty important episode in terms of setting up the direction of a couple characters. I'd say its significance is far greater than its overall quality.
And it was yet another episode in which Hibiki didn't cross any line!
The importance of self-loving is something I can get behind, though. The girls shouldn't be insecure just because they don't look a certain way.
>And yeah, the vice principal is definitely gonna be the stone in Hibiki's shoe. And Akira 100% has the hots for Fuko.
And Fujio gets no bitches
>She absolutely does have a point lol. The problem is that you shouldn't generalize and assume everyone is bad because there's some (or in this case an excessive amount of) bad apples.
And also the guys we see are mostly teenagers. Like, they still have a lot of growing up to do.
>And it was yet another episode in which Hibiki didn't cross any line!
You're just waiting for him to unravel, huh? Lol.
I've really liked Hibiki so far. The protagonist being someone you can actively root for helps the show out tremendously. Without Hibiki, Fuko, and Lulu, the show would lose almost all of its charm.
Really didn't think an anime about a cross dressing teacher would be so wholesome.
>And Fujio gets no bitches
Let her cook.
>And also the guys we see are mostly teenagers. Like, they still have a lot of growing up to do.
Fair, all those teenage hormones.
>You're just waiting for him to unravel, huh?
I'm hoping he doesn't though.
>I've really liked Hibiki so far. The protagonist being someone you can actively root for helps the show out tremendously. Without Hibiki, Fuko, and Lulu, the show would lose almost all of its charm.
To be fair, you could say that about most shows main characters...
There's something whimsical about this anime. It feels like a sitcom from the 1980s where at the end of every episode there would be a life lesson.
>Let her cook.
Hey, she hasn't punched Akira in the face yet.
>Fair, all those teenage hormones.
They do be hormoning
>I'm hoping he doesn't though.
Yeah, me too
>To be fair, you could say that about most shows main characters...
True, but I would argue this show has more heart than most other animes.
Don't think I've seen any sitcom from the 80s... Seifeld technically started in 1989, but I'm not sure I should take life or moral lessons from that group lol.
>Hey, she hasn't punched Akira in the face yet.
Not for lack of trying.
>True, but I would argue this show has more heart than most other animes.
My memory is so bad I can't confirm nor deny that statement :(
I was thinking something like Full House or Mr. Belvedere.
>Not for lack of trying.
He makes her feel all mushy inside
>My memory is so bad I can't confirm nor deny that statement :(
[](#therethere)
It feels like a better, less funny version of Love Hina.
I know Full House by name, never watched it though.
>It feels like a better, less funny version of Love Hina.
Hmm... I'm not too sure, don't really see that many similarities.
I haven't seen much of it
>Hmm... I'm not too sure, don't really see that many similarities.
Both has its share of wackiness
>What are your thoughts on physical exams in school?
Never had one, or hear of anyone having one, so it sounds very weird. Is it normal in Japan or the US?
>What are your thoughts on Akira having a grudge against the principal?
Not really sure what was going on, did I miss something?
>What are your thoughts on it being teased that Fujio has a crush on Akira?
She's about to have a bad time, because his eyes are clearly set on someone else.
>What are your thoughts on the episode establishing what is seemingly going to be a major plot point going forward which is the vice principal trying to get Hibiki fired?
Hibiki really screwed up by doing what he did. She already didn't like him, and now she's even more distrustful of him... I think it'll lead to some fun events though!
>Do you like the way the show handled the breast size stuff? Do you think it could've been done more tastefully?
I actually think it was done pretty tastefully, can't really relate, but I think it sent a nice message to any possible young girls watching it.
On to the episode!
Today's episode starts with the cult's headquarters. Love is all!
Physical examination... Oh fuck no. Hibiki is also being examined isn't he?!
What the fuck were those rankings!?
The perverts strike once again. Is granny gonna stop them again?
What's up with Akira?
Why is granny entering the men's bath as if it's nothing?
Miho is right, men do focus on boobs. Boobs are life.
Bigger isn't necessarily better, but big is great.
Akira you piece of shit, he really was gonna try to spy on them.
Oh shit, the vice principal caught Hibiki.
Damn, that music teacher is thick.
They want to examine Hibiki, I knew it!
One of the perverts is gonna pretend to be a doctor I'm guessing...
I'm disappointed Hibiki didn't stop the boys even though he knew what they were doing.
What the fuck was Fuko thinking stuffing so much?!
And once again, Hibiki said the right thing with Fuko, even though he's also padding. The hypocrite!
Oh, granny was the doctor, not the perverts!
Welp, looks like in the end I was still right, the perverts also dressed up as doctor & nurse lol.
Gonna have to work at the office tomorrow, so I won't stick around for long today, my replies will also be very limited tomorrow since I'm gonna be at the office the whole day.
>Never had one, or hear of anyone having one, so it sounds very weird. Is it normal in Japan or the US?
It happens in the US, especially on the job field.
>Not really sure what was going on, did I miss something?
This is the first it's really been mentioned.
>She's about to have a bad time, because his eyes are clearly set on someone else.
And she seems like a tsundere too. Oh man...
>Hibiki really screwed up by doing what he did. She already didn't like him, and now she's even more distrustful of him... I think it'll lead to some fun events though!
Definitely probably a whole lot of tension.
>I actually think it was done pretty tastefully, can't really relate, but I think it sent a nice message to any possible young girls watching it.
And it again continues the trend of Hibiki having a positive impact on people.
>On to the episode!
[](#mayushii)
>Today's episode starts with the cult's headquarters. Love is all!
Love is war
>Physical examination... Oh fuck no. Hibiki is also being examined isn't he?!
Whelp...
>What the fuck were those rankings!?
What, you never ranked students breast sizes growing up? :P
>The perverts strike once again. Is granny gonna stop them again?
Nope. They stop themselves.
>What's up with Akira?
Good question
>Why is granny entering the men's bath as if it's nothing?
Because Lulu is above the law. In fact, she is the law.
>Miho is right, men do focus on boobs. Boobs are life.
I like a girl's personality, personally
>Bigger isn't necessarily better, but big is great.
It's definitely at least not a drawback. Unless you hate back pain lol
>Akira you piece of shit, he really was gonna try to spy on them.
Well, it was more the other boys wanting to use his dad's equipment. Akira is just there because he doesn't like the principal. He has an ulterior motive.
>Oh shit, the vice principal caught Hibiki.
[](#forgotkeys)
>Damn, that music teacher is thick.
I said the same thing in my notes lol
>They want to examine Hibiki, I knew it!
Oh bother
>One of the perverts is gonna pretend to be a doctor I'm guessing...
Surprisingly not
>I'm disappointed Hibiki didn't stop the boys even though he knew what they were doing.
It seems like he's of the mindset that boys will be boys.
>What the fuck was Fuko thinking stuffing so much?!
That's the problem: She was overthinking.
>And once again, Hibiki said the right thing with Fuko, even though he's also padding. The hypocrite!
Yes, but he does it out of necessity, you see.
That seems to be a trend with this show. Hibiki gives helpful advice that he can't apply to himself. Do as I say, not as I do.
>Oh, granny was the doctor, not the perverts!
Was she? I thought she bribed the doctor off.
>Welp, looks like in the end I was still right, the perverts also dressed up as doctor & nurse lol.
But they were too late lol
>Gonna have to work at the office tomorrow, so I won't stick around for long today, my replies will also be very limited tomorrow since I'm gonna be at the office the whole day.
It's okay. Take all the time you need.
And they actually get your measurements? Why?
>And she seems like a tsundere too. Oh man...
Is this the first time a Tsundere doesn't win? I mean, she could still win by the end...
>Love is war
Tell me you've watched Kaguya-sama
>What, you never ranked students breast sizes growing up? :P
I plead the fifth
>Because Lulu is above the law. In fact, she is the law.
Good enough reason I guess.
>I like a girl's personality, personally
Sure, me too, but if you had 2 of the exact same girl, would you choose the big boob or small boob version?
>It's definitely at least not a drawback. Unless you hate back pain lol
I didn't mean that big.
>Well, it was more the other boys wanting to use his dad's equipment. Akira is just there because he doesn't like the principal. He has an ulterior motive.
I wonder what that is...
>It seems like he's of the mindset that boys will be boys.
Yeah that's fair, it's not like they're actually watching them anyway.
>That's the problem: She was overthinking.
I dunno, seems like she just wasn't thinking about the right thing, like "will anyone notice?"
>That seems to be a trend with this show. Hibiki gives helpful advice that he can't apply to himself. Do as I say, not as I do.
Yeah I know, the hypocrite thing was a joke!
>Was she? I thought she bribed the doctor off.
I think so. I'll double check tonight.
>It's okay. Take all the time you need.
Just arriving at the office, my replies are done for the day :(
I think it's to make sure you're able to work. I dunno, I never thought about the specifics.
>Is this the first time a Tsundere doesn't win? I mean, she could still win by the end...
There's been tsunderes that haven't won before.
[Anime] >!I've never forgive Quintessential Quintuplets for Nino not winning.!<
>Tell me you've watched Kaguya-sama
Of course. It's in my top 10 favorite anime of all time.
>I plead the fifth
Fair enough lol
>Good enough reason I guess.
I'll roll with it
>Sure, me too, but if you had 2 of the exact same girl, would you choose the big boob or small boob version?
Eh, it depends. If the small boob girl has a figure like Tatsumaki...
>I didn't mean that big.
You mean more like c cup
>I wonder what that is...
Hopefully the show dives into it more
>Yeah that's fair, it's not like they're actually watching them anyway.
They seem almost of an island onto themselves.
>I dunno, seems like she just wasn't thinking about the right thing, like "will anyone notice?"
I saw it as more her trying to make a favorable impression. Kinda along the same lines as you, but different.
>Yeah I know, the hypocrite thing was a joke!
But it's also kinda true
>I think so. I'll double check tonight.
[](#mugiwait)
>Just arriving at the office, my replies are done for the day :(
Aw, okay then
Sounds like a bullshit excuse if that's really it...
>There's been tsunderes that haven't won before.
>[Anime] >!I've never forgive Quintessential Quintuplets for Nino not winning.!<
Oh yeah that's true, totally forgot about that one, and I did watch it.
>Of course. It's in my top 10 favorite anime of all time.
[**Good taste**](#kannathumbs)
>Eh, it depends. If the small boob girl has a figure like Tatsumaki...
From OPM? Too petite for my taste.
>You mean more like c cup
That, or slightly bigger. It has to match the rest of the body. If she's very skinny, they can't be huge, if she's a bit on the larger size, they can't be too small.
>I saw it as more her trying to make a favorable impression. Kinda along the same lines as you, but different.
Is there a typo in there? Not sure what you mean with the second sentence...
>[](#mugiwait)
I was indeed correct. [Granny posed as the doctor with her own voice changer.](https://i.imgur.com/dxguroa.jpeg)
>Aw, okay then
I survived.
Well, it's also like to make sure you aren't taking any illegal substances.
>Oh yeah that's true, totally forgot about that one, and I did watch it.
[Quintessential Quintuplets] >!What do you mean the MC doesn't want to end up with the girl who drugged him?!<
>[**Good taste**](#kannathumbs)
I still need to see Stairway to Adulthood
>From OPM? Too petite for my taste.
But her ass, man
>That, or slightly bigger. It has to match the rest of the body. If she's very skinny, they can't be huge, if she's a bit on the larger size, they can't be too small.
I don't mind shortstacks
>Is there a typo in there? Not sure what you mean with the second sentence...
We both agree that Fuko was trying to win approval.
>I was indeed correct. [Granny posed as the doctor with her own voice changer.](https://i.imgur.com/dxguroa.jpeg)
Ah, okay, then. My mistake.
Now I feel there was a missed opportunity with us seeing the real doctor tied up in the closet lol
>I survived.
I'm glad you did :D
A blood/urine test makes sense then, not taking your measurements though!
>[Quintessential Quintuplets] >!What do you mean the MC doesn't want to end up with the girl who drugged him?!<
Oh yeah that's ringing some bells. It was the short haired one, right?
>I still need to see Stairway to Adulthood
It was pretty good, they did something very well that I don't remember seeing in an anime before.
>But her ass, man
[](#datass)
>I don't mind shortstacks
First time hearing that term lol
>Ah, okay, then. My mistake.
Good thing I have such great memory.
I think it may have something to do with uniform size, the more I think about it.
>Oh yeah that's ringing some bells. It was the short haired one, right?
She had long hair but she trimmed it. The important haircut trope in full effect.
>It was pretty good, they did something very well that I don't remember seeing in an anime before.
And it was in spite of a lot of cut content.
>[](#datass)
God, I love tsunderes
>First time hearing that term lol
Well, now you know
>Good thing I have such great memory.
Eyy lol
That would make a lot more sense.
>She had long hair but she trimmed it. The important haircut trope in full effect.
Don't remember her with long hair, but checks out.
>And it was in spite of a lot of cut content.
[](#lewd)
>Well, now you know
[](#cheekychika)

Don't forget to answer the questions, if you can.
Thoughts on Vice Principal wanting to keep the details of the physical exam under wraps?
Thoughts on Tofu wanting to spy on the girl but Kōji not being interested unless it involves outfits?
Thoughts on Fujio feeling that men are all worthless idiots?
Thoughts on Akira causing Fujio to blush?
What are your thoughts on Akira solely wanting to collect the data because he likes seeing the principal suffer?
Thoughts on Miho feeling that you have to have big breasts in order to fall in love?
Thoughts on Hibiki taking off the voice modifier to spook the guys?
What are your thoughts on vice principal proposing that the entire faculty take part in the physical exam?
Thoughts on Fuko fainting?
Thoughts on Lulu telling Hibiki he'll pass the exam if he just has confidence?
What are your thoughts on Akira eventually getting fed up with how the rest of the boys are behaving?
What are your thoughts on most of the girls it turns out are wearing breast pads?
What are your thoughts on Hibiki telling the girls that what really counts is not the size of the breasts, but the size of the heart that's behind them?
What are your thoughts on Kōji and Tofu missing the exams because they thought it was a 3 but it was actually a 13, which is 1 in the afternoon?
Something I only noticed just now is that the theme song actually starts by flashing images of the upcoming episode. That’s pretty cool, can’t believe it took me til now to realize.
Hibiki seems to think the headmistress is being paranoid. You’d think living with two sex perverts who specifically target the school he works at would change his mind.
Also, why does Mori just have a giant mirror next to him at his office job? That’s weird.
Once again Mori and the old guy are pretty insufferable. It’s like if that one perverted teacher from Azumanga Daioh was two guys.
You know what, say what you will about characters like Mineta from MHA but at least he’s the same age as the girls he’s being creepy about.
I feel like these days an adult character creeping on a teenager isn’t really played for comedy as much anymore.
Like the only recent example I can think of is Happosai in the Ranma ½ remake, but that’s a remake of a manga from the ‘80s.
And honestly even then I find Happosai more tolerable than these guys. I don’t like him, but for as much as he annoys me he looks more like a weird little gremlin man than an actual guy. These two just seem like actual dudes who should be on the sex offender registry.
I don’t get why the headmistress wanting to protect her students privacy is being treated like she’s being unreasonable or weird. Again, considering that there is a credible reason to be worried about it.
Whoa, random closeup on Hibiki’s nipple.
Another case of the official dub and subtitles leaving a Japanese word untranslated. In this case the word is “seishun”. I literally only know that it means “youth” because of Bocchi the Rock.
How wealthy is this school if it can afford a sauna for its students?
I wish there weren’t so many uncomfortable shots of naked teenaged girls this episode.
I guess this episode is about breasts now.
Akira having access to listening devices actually makes sense, since the last episode established his dad is a private investigator.
The gag of Fuko being repeatedly distracted by breasts is kind of funny. Definitely unexpected. Usually it’s the male characters who get that joke.
I’m sure this is absolutely unintentional, but the subplot about the vice-principal trying to prove Hibiki is a man feels like an allegory for how some people treat trans people in the workforce. Especially teachers.
I’m definitely taking this show way too seriously but I really hate this whole “boys will be boys” attitude Hibiki takes and the show seemingly agrees with. Hibiki basically just says men are drawn to women’s breasts and girls just have to put up with it.
I watched Prison School recently and it was probably worse in that regard but it never really took itself seriously. Here it really feels like we’re meant to think Hibiki is being thoughtful when it’s just a really outdated and sexist view to have.
I will concede though, Hibiki trying to comfort the girls about their body image insecurities was nice.
Lulu resolving Hibiki’s thing with the doctor offscreen feels like a bit of a copout. Like they couldn’t think of a way to resolve that subplot.
I believe Mori’s outfit in this final scene is a Black Jack reference. I really need to check out Black Jack someday.
**What are your thoughts on physical exams in school?**
I never had to do one.
**What are your thoughts on Akira having a grudge against the principal?**
I like that we're trying to expand on the side characters.
**What are your thoughts on it being teased that Fujio has a crush on Akira?**
I totally forgot about that part of the episode to be honest
**What are your thoughts on the episode establishing what is seemingly going to be a major plot point going forward which is the vice principal trying to get Hibiki fired?**
I mean I'm surprised nobody's suspected Hibiki before now.
**Do you like the way the show handled the breast size stuff? Do you think it could've been done more tastefully?**
I do like that it does take the fact that this is something girls are insecure about at least somewhat seriously.
I have
>I like that we're trying to expand on the side characters.
Same here
>I totally forgot about that part of the episode to be honest
Feels like it could come up again
>I mean I'm surprised nobody's suspected Hibiki before now.
I guess the principal is more concerned with Hibiki’s lax attitude on certain issues.
>I do like that it does take the fact that this is something girls are insecure about at least somewhat seriously.
And I thought it was handles with poignancy to where the comedy never came at the expense of the message.
I wish the teenage boys learned more of a lesson, but at least Akira was like the voice of reason.
It does kinda remind me of how Toradora handles the same topic.
>I wish the teenage boys learned more of a lesson, but at least Akira was like the voice of reason.
I will say, this show kinda muddles its storytelling when it comes to its exploration of gender and adolescence.
Except with Toradora, it was like this balance between comedy and drama. With this episode, I would say it's like 30% comedy and 70% serious but not overly dramatic. If that makes any sense.
But the heart regardless shines through.
>I will say, this show kinda muddles its storytelling when it comes to its exploration of gender and adolescence.
But can't you argue that may be by design? Like, the teenagers in this show feel pretty real.

I swear that was also a plotpoint in an episode of South Park.
>Thoughts on Vice Principal wanting to keep the details of the physical exam under wraps?
I mean I feel like that's fair
>Thoughts on Tofu wanting to spy on the girl but Kōji not being interested unless it involves outfits?
I don't like to think about these two if I can help it
>Thoughts on Fujio feeling that men are all worthless idiots?
Aside from Hibiki, she hasn't really met a man who's proven her wrong.
>Thoughts on Akira causing Fujio to blush?
Why not, I ship it.
>What are your thoughts on Akira solely wanting to collect the data because he likes seeing the principal suffer?
Wonder if she did anything to him specifically
>Thoughts on Miho feeling that you have to have big breasts in order to fall in love?
There are plenty of guys out there who like small breasts.
>Thoughts on Hibiki taking off the voice modifier to spook the guys?
Thought that was pretty funny
>What are your thoughts on the vice principal hearing Hibiki?
>What are your thoughts on vice principal proposing that the entire faculty take part in the physical exam?
I guess this is gonna be a new running subplot now
>Thoughts on Fuko fainting?
She got boob hypnotized
>Thoughts on Lulu telling Hibiki he'll pass the exam if he just has confidence?
Nice to see Lulu being supportive
>What are your thoughts on Akira eventually getting fed up with how the rest of the boys are behaving?
Glad to see there's at least one guy with common sense around here
>What are your thoughts on most of the girls it turns out are wearing breast pads?
I guess it was kind of an unexpected reveal
>What are your thoughts on Hibiki telling the girls that what really counts is not the size of the breasts, but the size of the heart that's behind them?
That's nice I suppose
>What are your thoughts on Hibiki passing his exam after Lulu pulled some strings?
Again, felt like a bit of a copout to resolve
>What are your thoughts on Kōji and Tofu missing the exams because they thought it was a 3 but it was actually a 13, which is 1 in the afternoon?
I'm glad they are continuing to suffer misfortune.
Wouldn't surprise me
>I mean I feel like that's fair
Same, really
>I don't like to think about these two if I can help it
Fair enough
>Aside from Hibiki, she hasn't really met a man who's proven her wrong.
Nah, not at all. Well, there's Akira.
>Why not, I ship it.
I like that Fujio seems like a tsundere
>Wonder if she did anything to him specifically
Probably the whole sexist thing
>There are plenty of guys out there who like small breasts.
Flat is justice, as they say.
I like little scenes like this though because it's such a teenage mindset.
>Thought that was pretty funny
Too bad what happens after
>I guess this is gonna be a new running subplot now
Yeah, Hibiki really kinda screwed up here
>She got boob hypnotized
Apparently
>Nice to see Lulu being supportive
Lulu is actually pretty well developed. No pun intended, mind you.
>Glad to see there's at least one guy with common sense around here
It being him and not Hibiki was interesting
>I guess it was kind of an unexpected reveal
I love how over the top they went with it. Like, they really let it get to their heads.
>That's nice I suppose
I really love this moment and I love Hibiki continues to be used as like the voice of reason.
>Again, felt like a bit of a copout to resolve
Did it? I feel like something like this is typical Lulu.
>I'm glad they are continuing to suffer misfortune.
To me, it makes their antics more tolerable.
I can't recall other shows doing that sort of thing.
>Hibiki seems to think the headmistress is being paranoid. You’d think living with two sex perverts who specifically target the school he works at would change his mind.
Yeah, no kidding
>Also, why does Mori just have a giant mirror next to him at his office job? That’s weird.
It seems like he uses it to get a better look at the uniforms? But I don't think that's how that sort of thing would function.
>Once again Mori and the old guy are pretty insufferable. It’s like if that one perverted teacher from Azumanga Daioh was two guys.
At least they only have like three minutes of screentime per episode.
>You know what, say what you will about characters like Mineta from MHA but at least he’s the same age as the girls he’s being creepy about.
I do think it's kinda funny that Kōji seems genuinely only interested in the uniforms.
>I feel like these days an adult character creeping on a teenager isn’t really played for comedy as much anymore.
It's not played at all anymore, is it?
>Like the only recent example I can think of is Happosai in the Ranma ½ remake, but that’s a remake of a manga from the ‘80s.
I'll be honest: Happosei probably annoys me more than Kōji and Tofu because at least these two idiots are always eating shit.
>And honestly even then I find Happosai more tolerable than these guys. I don’t like him, but for as much as he annoys me he looks more like a weird little gremlin man than an actual guy. These two just seem like actual dudes who should be on the sex offender registry.
Yeah, I'm not a fan of them either. But their role is so minor (Pun not intended) that I don't think they hurt the show in my eyes.
>I don’t get why the headmistress wanting to protect her students privacy is being treated like she’s being unreasonable or weird. Again, considering that there is a credible reason to be worried about it.
And the fact that the information from last year was leaked.
>Whoa, random closeup on Hibiki’s nipple.
Cue the side boob joke from Family Guy
>Another case of the official dub and subtitles leaving a Japanese word untranslated. In this case the word is “seishun”. I literally only know that it means “youth” because of Bocchi the Rock.
I can't think of seishun without thinking of sensei.
>How wealthy is this school if it can afford a sauna for its students?
I believe it's a private school. The parents from the last episode looked kinda rich.
>I wish there weren’t so many uncomfortable shots of naked teenaged girls this episode.
At least it served a narrative purpose
>I guess this episode is about breasts now.
Always has been
>Akira having access to listening devices actually makes sense, since the last episode established his dad is a private investigator.
Yeah, I like that little continuity
>The gag of Fuko being repeatedly distracted by breasts is kind of funny. Definitely unexpected. Usually it’s the male characters who get that joke.
I love what an airhead Fuko can be lol
>I’m sure this is absolutely unintentional, but the subplot about the vice-principal trying to prove Hibiki is a man feels like an allegory for how some people treat trans people in the workforce. Especially teachers.
It also feels ultra personal for her to go this route. Like, what happens if she gets proven Hibiki is a woman all along? Then she looks like a jackass.
>I’m definitely taking this show way too seriously but I really hate this whole “boys will be boys” attitude Hibiki takes and the show seemingly agrees with. Hibiki basically just says men are drawn to women’s breasts and girls just have to put up with it.
I feel like there's a happy medium. Principal needs to be less of a prude, and Hibiki should take the guys seriously just as much as the girls. It's like all his attention is only on the female students.
>I watched Prison School recently and it was probably worse in that regard but it never really took itself seriously. Here it really feels like we’re meant to think Hibiki is being thoughtful when it’s just a really outdated and sexist view to have.
But at least I can understand what the show is trying to get at. The boys are definitely in the wrong here, but it's not like it goes totally unchecked. That's why Akira walka out on them.
>I will concede though, Hibiki trying to comfort the girls about their body image insecurities was nice.
Highlight of the episode. Hibiki continues to have a big heart.
>Lulu resolving Hibiki’s thing with the doctor offscreen feels like a bit of a copout. Like they couldn’t think of a way to resolve that subplot.
At the same time, it feels totally in Lulu's character I feel like.
>I believe Mori’s outfit in this final scene is a Black Jack reference. I really need to check out Black Jack someday.
I didn't even know that was a thing
Yeah it feels very unique.
>It seems like he uses it to get a better look at the uniforms? But I don't think that's how that sort of thing would function.
That still doesn't explain why he brought it to work.
>Yeah, I'm not a fan of them either. But their role is so minor (Pun not intended) that I don't think they hurt the show in my eyes.
I guess, but at the same time I feel like I wouldn't be cringing so hard every episode if these two weren't here.
>I feel like there's a happy medium. Principal needs to be less of a prude, and Hibiki should take the guys seriously just as much as the girls. It's like all his attention is only on the female students.
I wonder if we'll get any episodes of Hibiki talking to the male students.
>I didn't even know that was a thing
It's an Osamu Tezuka manga I believe. I've seen it referenced in a bunch of stuff but never watched it myself.
It's like those shows that do recaps of previous episodes only here it's a brief recap of what we're about to watch.
>That still doesn't explain why he brought it to work.
Honestly, I chalk it up to the characters being eccentric.
>I guess, but at the same time I feel like I wouldn't be cringing so hard every episode if these two weren't here.
I feel like they exist to be butt monkeys. Which whatever I guess.
>I wonder if we'll get any episodes of Hibiki talking to the male students.
I would like to see that, honestly
>It's an Osamu Tezuka manga I believe. I've seen it referenced in a bunch of stuff but never watched it myself.
Ah, okay. That's pretty cool.

One day, I swear to god, ***one day***, there will be an anime (that is ***not*** H!) that unironically has it so small breasts are deemed attractive.
Why is Hibiki my friend when he uses his “straight man” voice when someone gives me a hard time halp 😭
Hey. Ladies can make masc voices now.

Akira and Fujio, huh? Interesting. I’m surprised Akira is much better than his friends in that he’s not jonesing to perv on his classmates. But he’s a bit of a mystery to me with his demeanor.

She's a good foil for Hibiki in the sense it's easy to root for sensei.
>5. For its time, the execution makes sense. But ugh. I wish that this happened less in anime.
The message at least feels empowering. I thought the destination made the journey worth it.

Wow, I just realized that the visuals during the guitar intro of the op are different in every episode, like individual stills taken from each one. Every time I see those scenes in the op, they remind me of the plot. Although the visuals look a bit rougher than they are now, I feel the people who made this show really put their heart into it, both the music and the visuals.
At first, I thought this episode might turn out to be just another fan service episode, until I saw Hibiki's speech to the entire class to save Fuko from her embarrassing situation. “It's human nature for men to be attracted to women's breasts” Hibiki didn't shy away from acknowledging that. Instead, he openly apologized on behalf of the boys, and given his background in cross-dressing, the apology carried far more weight than the students has expected.
He then went on to talk about something more important than appearences: a person's inner self —— their soul. That, ultimately， is the purpose and motivation we strive for. On top of that, Akira's timely act of turn off of the radio before the male students heard Fuko's embarrassing moment also deeply moved me. Overall, it was yet another episode that truly touched me heart.
ANSWER TODAY’S QUESTION(S)
What are your thoughts on the episode establishing what is seemingly going to be a major plot point going forward which is the vice principal trying to get Hibiki fired?
I'm really enjoying the current storyline, where the students face various difficulties and Hibiki steps in to teach and guide them. If the plot eventually shifts its focus too much toward the teacher cross-dressing angle, I might feel a bit disappointed—but I’ll still keep watching.
Yeah, you can tell that this was a labor of love.

It made for a very powerful lesson

I think these episodes having a lot of heart to them truly make them stand out.

I don't see any reason why we can't have a balance of the two. You know what I mean?
>I don't see any reason why we can't have a balance of the two. You know what I mean?
Yeah, I mean, if this is a 26-episode series, the main plot is probably meant to come later. I can almost predict that Hibiki will eventually be exposed by the vice-principal.
The story progresses like a slow climb up a mountain—steadily rising, but mostly flat, with very few dramatic ups and downs.
