I feel like I've lost that feeling on what made anime seem so magical to me...
I'm at a loss and not sure if anyone else has gone through this. I've been watching anime for the better part of a decade. I've either watched or attempted to watch anything that is in the top 1000 or so on the MAL ranking plus several hundred others that just seems interesting to me. I've consumed pretty much all seasonal anime on both Crunchyroll/Funimation and HiDive for the past 8 or so years. I've gotten to the point where anime is really the only things I watch and have branched out to manga and light novels. But not sure what has happened this past year. I've found it increasingly hard to find anime that I want to watch. Most of them I end up dropping mid-season. It's gotten so bad that this past fall season I only completed 2 animes. For the most part i've just been rewatching olders series that I love. I miss that magical feeling of finding an anime that just feels right. That you can't help but stay up all night watching because you keep telling yourself "just one more episode". Animes been such a big part of my life that I feel like part of me is missing.
Has any one else gone through this and if so what did you do to get past it?
Are there any hidden gems that i've missed. Does anyone have any suggestions? Like i've said I've pretty muched watch anything thats in the top 1000 alltime on MAL. I'm a sucker for a good romance anime. Some of must favorite anime are: Steins Gate (Alltime fav), Violet Evergarden, ReLife, Kimi no Suizou wo Tabetai, SAO (I know, but it was my gateway drug to anime), Quints, 86, Tora Dora, Mushoku Tensei, Horimiya, Link Click.
Any help would be appreciated.

I have had it happen to me, and being away resets the dopamine or whatever. It seems you’ve just over consumed
One solution is that every new season brings new surprises. Another solution is to go back 10+ years and try to dig up forgotten gems.
Ultimately it is a helpful perspective also to check out channels such as Mother's Basement, Otaku Spirit, Glass Reflection, etc. These people watch anime for a living, and every season they go through all the new shows clinically, and this shows them on their quest to find great things, wading through a sea of mid, even though they have watch more anime than most of us. If you are in the hobby for the long haul, this perspective can be useful and encouraging.
but no. sometimes you need a breather and that’s cool. but also watch what you want. not just what is popular. I’ve never seen an episode of gundam anything, DBZ, Haikyuu, blue lock, hajime no ippo, solo leveling…idc that they’re popular, none of them interest me so I don’t watch. it keeps me sane.
I believe a good story can be told in any kind of media. Be it a game, a book, a movie, Manga, Comic, Cartoon or Anime.
I feel like you can get a lot of different perspective and appreciation for different kinds of media if you do not focus on one single on.
I really recommend you to check out other forms of media! There are many amazing western series or cartoons out there. I always find it sad if people say stuff like "I only consume Anime/Manga" or also the opposite, people who refuse to watch Anime! You are missing out so much.
I sincerely believe there is no "oh western stories are not for me" is bullshit. Just as there are a lot of different genres of anime there are different genres of series or cartoons. If you keep your mind open and consume different kinds, you will never really burn out.
Since your favorite is Steins;Gate i recommend you check out Dark, it should be available Netflix but maybe you can find other places to watch it.
Since you also seem to like Romance maybe check out End of the F\*\*\*\*ing world, also on Netflix.
But you can also look around yourself a bit, there are soooo many great series out there.
Alternatively if you want to stick animated stuff maybe checkout something like Hazbin Hotel or The Amazing Digital Circus?
Otherwise you can also dive into Visual Novels if you really want to stick with japanese media
There's just a lot of garbage out there. It can be tough to find the gems.
Probably should take a break tho. Forcing it only reinforces the burnout.
Other than that, I have been in that situation before, and always there comes an anime that make me think this is why i watch anime.
Finally, last season was extremelly weak, so it makes sense that you are not finding anything worth ( maybe mha last season if that is your cup of tea, and uma musume which is an anime that has no right to be as good as it is xD)
In my post history there should be several small lists with recommendations. As i am not sure what of that have you watched and what not, you are free to take a quick look and see if anything else catch your attention
Have you tried my little monster, wotakoi, and love is war?
You gotta treat yourself better. Get your sense of taste back, and learn to be picky about what you watch. Take a break if you need to, go play a video game to completion or read a book or something, then come back to anime when you're ready.
Cleanse your palate with some classic anime, like the original seasons of Urusei Yatsura (1981) and Lupin III (1971). Watch some of the classic anime movies like Akira (1988) or Castle of Cagliostro (1979). I'm naming stuff that's really old because it's stood the test of time and is easy to find the magic in.
And, really, just let yourself enjoy things.
It's a romance with action sequences and a good story. It's a love story between a vampire woman and a human.
The story is pretty much this: a human is tired of living the same cycle so he decides to sneak out late at night and he meets a vampire woman. She bites him and he doesn't become a vampire and she basically explains that for him to become a vampire, he needs to fall in love with her. So the story is pretty much him trying to fall in love.
Oh, and there is blood, deaths, and even suicides!
Name: Call of the Night

I had a burnout way back when, and my solution was just to watch a bit of everything. Every genre, every demographic every era. That has helped a lot, because one genre I hadn't explored extensively, mecha consumes a lot of my anime time. Still I regularly take breaks, and don't watch anime, sometimes for months. I am just getting back in again right now.
This is the first season since Fall 2023, I have watched any seasonals. I really liked the first episode of Ikoku Nikki. I have been looking for a great drama for awhile. March Comes in Like a Lion and Shouwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu are some of my favorites of the last decade.
I think it's just that after watching anime for so long, we kinda knew what type of series we like and what we don't, and the list shrinks as "era" changes and we have fewer anime "backlog" to watch, so now it feels like there's not much out there that seem interesting or enjoyable.
Only to be pleasantly surprised that a show does come along and put a fresh take on genres that felt played out.
With the onset of a new season, I'll pull up the Seasonal Anime Chart and determine which shows are likely worth my time, which are not always what's popular. Give them a 3-episode watch and decide if the show is worth continuing.
This Fall was pretty generic rubbish. The few standouts (for me) were Gachiakuta and Sanda. Did watch another 6 shows, but nothing worth raving about.
I'm older so a lot of the Shonen stuff doesn't really land anymore.

Didn't get as much buzz as it didn't originate from Japan, but it's the best thing I've seen in forever. Superhero genre with characters done in a few episodes per Character Arc.
Be aware that each arc may time skip forward or back and as the series progresses everything comes together. It's really well done.
First 3 Episodes are available on YouTube in Sub/Dub, kind of a small problem though as the first Hero Arc is 4 episodes. Enough to see if it clicks for you though.
You should take a break, go do other hobby like...i don't know, watch youtube videos or play games. You might come back to anime eventually or maybe you won't, either way you shouldn't force yourselves. I know too, i'm also burned out from anime right now.
