People described this as fantasy anime Suicide Squad but I think it misses the two most important parts of what makes Suicide Squad great: the characters in Suicide Squad are (A) villains and (B) can be killed.

It’s massively overhyped atm. It could end up being good, but right now it’s a story of the square-ist edge lord meeting the goddess of lolicon who spends an hour throwing swords bc swords are cooler than spears. I’m pretty sure it blew its load on this episode and I’m not sure the premise is strong enough to build an interesting story based on what we’ve seen. It’s like a kids first attempt to riff on Berserk, all the bluster, but none of the actual edge.

its a 7/10 series, turn your brain off its a 9/10, if you want an original anime experience its a 5/10, same cliches when it comes to the wronged hero, Overly optimistic girl, one dimensional and faceless villains and side characters that barely impact the story, i found Dotta to be a more compelling character than MC, a kleptomaniac main character sounds interesting in terms of conflicting goals but nooooo we get revenge story #19802

Fine episode, great animation, and I really like the English Dub cast, my only true complaint is one that I brought upon myself by setting up expectations based on poor knowledge of the series. I thought it would be a much more of a "oh shit I'm here as a hero now and gotta work my way up to survive" vs "I got framed but I'm super OP and about to get even more OP." From trailers I thought our characters we'd follow would be more like the thief kid instead of the likely most OP character this series will have. I'm still 100% going to watch and enjoy this series, just felt the marketing painted this as not an OP power fantasy at least at first.

I think I still have to learn a bit more about the world building (if there is some). I feel that even from a deep human level being rescued from death would get at least some gratitude. I'll wait to see some potential redeeming character growth but if it's all 'man these generic villains are always gonna hate me even though I saved them, their cat, and grandma from monsters repeatedly' it could go a different way.
Animation though, it's so dynamic. I love that aspect. And the use of the neon in the monsters really keeps a nice contrast between the stark roughness of battle-hewn armor. As a raver I can attest we do start looking like the melted animal monstrosities after a few days, and inspire the same reaction in humans when we do wander out of the festival bahah
