I already watch Neon Genisis, which was AMAZING. I'm also gonna watch Takopi's Original sin tonight. I'm looking for other psychologically deep animes that will leave me scarred. So Anime watchers of reddit, what you got for me?! Also, I need it to be on Crunchyroll or Hulu please.

Cradle of Desire from season 2 messed me up. Even though it's not considered a horror anime, it's incredibly horrifying.

Fucked up and psychologically deep are extremely vague descriptors and are going to get you very different responses depending on who you ask.

That said, I'll drop a couple I think a lot of people won't have seen (vs more popular stuff like Made In Abyss, Devilman, Beserk): Serial Experiments Lain (not that gory but it's pretty mind fucky), Technolyze, Perfect Blue, Elfen Lied, Shiki (interesting take on vampires), Paranoia agent (not that fucked up, but a good psychological horror).

I'd definitely give Perfect Blue a watch. It's old, like 30 years old, and it's the only movie mentioned here so far, but it's considered by many to be a great film that plays with the audience's mind *a lot*, as it explores psychosis. There is a pretty distressing rape scene in it, though, fair warning if that's a trigger.

Edit: you really should just look into Satoshi Kon in general.

Okay, I'm not sure about scarring your mind, but Shinsekai Yori for me was like "OMG, what did I just see?" Gut punches all the way down. Watch all the way thru the final credit as that's when the last revelation of the story is presented, and just...wow. I rewatched the whole thing over again after my first watch because I couldn't believe how heavy that shit was.

Some advice on Texh: Lock in and don't give up on it. The pacing in the first few episodes is bit of a chore, the main bad guy doesn't show up until 2/3rds of the way through and the dull color palette are a lot to take in, but once you get to the surface episodes, it unfolds into one of the single most endearing and thematically satisfying stories ever told.

I haven't watched it myself but Grave of the Fireflies is always touted as the saddest and most emotionally scarring thing ever.

I feel like the most fucked up stuff I've experienced are manga rather than anime though. I wonder if Oyasumi Punpun will ever get an anime.

Maybe give Kotaro Lives Alone a shot. It's overall just a cute show, but... it has its moments where it slips a knife into your side.

I’ve never understood why people want to watch fucked up things without it being for edgy reasons. I’ve not seen it, but I think if you want to stick to anime, then Midori: Shoujo Tsubaki is probably going to be the answer, though I doubt you’ll find it on any streaming services due to how controversial the movie is and with it banned in so many countries.

People watch stuff like what's getting mentioned because it's introspective and evokes very strong emotions. Midori is something people watch for edgy reasons. You can actually find it really easily and people will be quick to suggest it but I can almost guarantee you it's not what OP is looking for. While it tells a story and explores dark themes, it is 99% shock value. It was made by just one guy, and unlike someone like Makoto Shinkai, this guy didn't have any financial backing at all, and it's old asf. As a result, and no shade to the guy who made it, but the movie is more like a 45 minute slideshow (literally a lot of it, especially the SA, is just still images) of a young girl getting abused and violated by an entire circus troupe at different points, past the point of necessity to the plot. It's graphic at times, but because of the art style and the fact it's mostly just drawn stills, it doesn't quite have the effect some later movies and anime had. It doesn't quite leave you feeling scarred or introspective. All it does is make you feel bad for the poor girl and the puppies.

I wouldn't recommend people watch it, not only because of what happens to the young girl but because as a modern anime viewer it's just not very good.
