Fear of emotional anime
There were a lot of emotional and thought-provoking anime in 2025. Orb, Takopi, Shoshimin, to name a few. I want to watch them, but I'm afraid the emotional moments will overwhelm me. If I don't watch them, I fear on missing out on perspectives and experiences I don't usually look for. Am I being stupid?

You can find some great emotional anime with plenty of comic relief to diffuse the tension in between drama scenes. e.g. "Medalist".
Yes I still feel that emptiness when I think about Your lie in April or Cyberpunk Edgerunners but yeah they were worth it and I still re-watch then whenever I feel like I need to offload myself from all the heavy burdens
Yes, I value the viewing experience; no, I will not re-watch it.
In contrast, Maquia: When the Promised Flower Blooms is sad and beautiful and re-watchable (which I did yesterday).

No but for real. Your worries are valid but at the same time you will never know if you don't try. Sometimes the fear of getting hurt is worse than the hurt itself. Try it and if you feel like you can handle it just stop, there´s nothing wrong with that. At the very least you can say that you tried new things and that FoMO will disappear.
Or will just experiencing a story where bad things happen just kinda stay in your mind, bother you, cause you to overthink and lose sleep? This used to be me when I was younger. Hell fucking Chobits made me super existential.
Not everybody has to like everything though. Maybe some people don't want to feel such strong emotions, that's fine. I personally enjoy it when an anime manages to get a rise out of my emotions.
The most recent anime that made me cry was Umamusume Cinderella Grey. It wasn't even like sad tears, it's more like I found things relatable and felt touched. Not really a show where bad things happen(I mean bad things kinda do happen but nowhere on the level of like people dying and Takopi level nonsense, just regular sports injuries and losing races). Shows can still be emotional without being like traumatizing. Heck, sometimes some more down to earth stuff is more relatable and evokes tears more easily than some outlandish plot where people die in silly ways.
