Any suggestions for must-see anime that are less obvious?

So, now I have Crunchyroll and would like some suggestions for anime beyond the basics like Naruto, Dragon Ball, One Piece, Death Note... If anyone has any suggestions for must-see anime, ones that you would recommend to anyone, please send them my way, thanks!

Hi Glitch_Fantasma, it seems like you might be looking for new anime to watch!

The users of this subreddit came up with [a chart of anime recommendations for newcomers and veterans](https://i.redd.it/0w1v880jtq661.png) and [an awesome longer flowchart](https://i.redd.it/vdzlkodz19c71.png). Maybe you can find something there that you'll like \^.\^

You might also find our [Recommendation Wiki](https://www.reddit.com/r/anime/wiki/recommendations) or [daily thread](/r/anime/search?q=flair%3Adaily&restrict_sr=on&sort=new&t=week) helpful.

My lord the word vomit you could have formatted this much better

Available_Group_13172026-01-06 18:16

Well if you hit reply, it goes to its original formatting. But when you don't. It really is word vomit.

Edit:It is a decent list.

_-pai_-2026-01-06 18:40

It was formatted. Reddit removed it.

Yeah. I did. Thanks.

the-big-dingo2026-01-06 19:01

Ayy you fixed it nice

gsurfer042026-01-06 18:37

You need a double space at the end of a line for a line break.

_-pai_-2026-01-06 18:44

There was bullet listings, Reddit removed them. Sorry guys

Kiriijou2026-01-06 18:41

As an important heads up, **for OP** and anyone else who might be interested in watching Higurashi When They Cry (Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni), make sure you start with either: the [2006 anime](https://myanimelist.net/anime/934/Higurashi_no_Naku_Koro_ni) (and it's [second half Kai](https://myanimelist.net/anime/1889/Higurashi_no_Naku_Koro_ni_Kai)), the original visual novel, or the manga adaptation.

The 2020 anime Higurashi When They Cry: New (Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni: Gou), is a sequel to the original story, not a remake. **Don't accidentally start with Gou**, as it's full of spoilers.

(_Note: in most (if not all) regions, the only Higurashi anime on Crunchyroll, is Gou. Also, the original Visual Novel is currently available on Steam, under the title"Higurashi When They Cry: Hou", with the first arc being free to download._).

---

Also, your formatting needs fixing to be readable. Either add another line break to each line or add " - " to each line, for it to look like a list.

Example:

` - One`

` - Two`

will come out as:
- One
- Two

_-pai_-2026-01-06 18:44

Thanks for listing this. One would ruin the experience if they went for the wrong order.

Weakest Tamer began a journey to pick up trash.

I know its only my discord group but this one fell past most people, one of the few anime I actually felt sorry for the MC. Its labeled as Isekai but the lowest form of isekai you can get

SmolPlaytoy2026-01-06 18:08

If you don't need action then Fruits Basket the newer one, Violet Evergarden, or Apothecary Diaries

Available_Group_13172026-01-06 18:23

Okay... You need to have a genre or theme. We need more context.

Because it would be like telling you to watch "The Notebook" with Ryan gosling, Good movie.

Or like a Disney film.

Seems you gravitate towards shonen aimed anime. Go on MAL and go through their list.

Black lagoon if you want kick ass Hollywood style action.

Ghost in the Shell standalone complex if you want intellectual and philosophical depth and also kick ass action
