- Well that was certainly *interesting*, making it seem like Louis was going to be the MC by having the episode be from his perspective just to kill him off. Looks like synopsis gives it away that Louis *isn’t* the MC, but I went into this without reading that (I only looked at the cast list + the Sou thing), and I think that works.
The young form is Aimi Tanaka aka Umi from SP and Umaru-chan. Pretty insane range tbh.
But he is still there in the thumbnail so he might be alive somehow or is a zombie now
But... it could just be because I really liked that character and would like to see more of him. That and my brain latched onto Lous responding that he would "consider it" when the offer to join Arne's agency after the case was solved. I'd honestly be a bit bummed if they developed such a good character for just one episode, especially since so many series struggle to develop that kind of exposition for their mains.
There's also several "funny" malapropisms. Including "Wer anderen eine Grube gräbt, der hat ein Grubengrabgerät" (who digs pits for others, has a pit digging machine), and "Wer anderen eine Bratwurst brät, der hat ein Bratwurstbratgerät" (who grills Bratwurst for others, has a Bratwurst grill machine). Mostly because they rhyme and sound silly. A Grubengrabgerät is not a real word, that would be something like a Bagger, and neither is a Bratwurstbratgerät, that's a Grill. But they're valid words to form by German grammar and are therefore funny words
Arne is out and about during daylight hours, so people might think he can't be a real vampire.
And then dude tells him he smells blood too like how much more obvious can that be?
Granted I’m only 15 minutes through lol
Well, the red goulash makes sense. Eww. and I think the Arne vamp kid ate that goulash at the start so he knew.
* Vampires
* Witches
* Necromancers.
Decent first episode. Tbh I was confused by the mentioning of vampires and thinking, isn't Arne a vampire? Anyway, good enough to continue watching more. I wonder if the cases will continue to be episodic or if they will be a bit more elaborate.
This is not the first time that get Youko Hikasa voicing a badass ice queen servant. And this alone is one reason to love this show.
I loved how Arne and Amy didn't do anything to hide that they are a vampire and a zombie. But Louis didn't seem to notice that at all. Propably because he was so fixated in his believe that they possibly can't exist.
I remember thinking Arne's name is a bit silly but having now heard it spoken out loud and then looking at the katakana the English translation also clearly misspells it for some reasons!?!
It should be Neuntöter not Neuntöte.
タ means it has an -er word ending.
Because that's how the transliteration between German and Japanese works.
Clearly something went wrong here and they either straight up made a mistake from the start by naming him Neuntöte or the 'r' got lost somewhere along the way and noone bothered to correct it.
And yet, the official translation is still 'Neuntöte'. So I think the only ones who know the answer (and the ones who made a mistake) are the creators themselves ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I was also surprised by Odo's lack of presence, I thought he was the next target after it got revealed Adelina went after large men, and his voice actor, but he got killed off screen and wasn't even an accomplice.
I do hope the next mystery will be solved in a slower pace, I'd like to enjoy the mystery.
I will definitely watch more, I've gotten intrigued. The previous anime I watched that killed the "main" protag of episode 1 was quite decent and I watched it to the end, so I'm hopeful this one might also be a decent watch. I like when writers try different things and do not follow the same old formula.
Also why would a fresh zombie already look rotted?
Isn't that the MC in the OP? I was waiting for that ending to happen so we could get on with the story.
Edit: Welp, I was so wrong. Guess I should finish the episode before commenting...
Parts are poorly animated. They spent their budget on the key scene, and that was a great decision. It needed it to land and it came out well. It's a mystery or something and they never showed the whole "scene of the death", which is usually the basis for investigation.
Vampires and mysteries go together like peanut butter and chocolate! Wasn't sure exactly what to think, but it starts off the bat with parental murder and a horribly killed decoy protagonist (who eliminates the bad guy in a kind of brutal way). Leans much more in the horror category than I was expecting.
I kind of expected there to be a scene or something showing that the character was now a zombie or something, but nope. So now the question is did they troll us with a decoy protagonist or is something happening next week that brings him back. Guess it gives me an excuse to tune in next week.
I'm suspicious that the necromancer zombie nun is going to be bringing back Louis more going forward, one of the places he shows up in the OP is right after she raises a bunch of other corpses.
Kind of wild that the solution to the episode one mystery was the seemingly kind lady being revealed as a murderous witch who was then killed on screen by being graphically stabbed multiple times in the head.

Heck I remember another one about people having a soul book that appears when you die. The whole first arc has this normal guy be involved with this team of badges book keepers then to reveal that he too was a zombie book and was only alive through the villain.
Ugh I was so interested in Louis as a character and him having his world turned upside down by this revelation. Like he’s decently shown in the OP could he maybe not be gone for good….
Detectives in a setting where the supernatural is real! I love that trope/premise.
All in all, I can't wait for the next episode.
The first episode hooked me so quickly I wanna continue to read if I’m able to.
That said, a straightforward supernatural mystery series with no slop qualities is enough to keep me watching regardless.
At least he got his revenge on the witch as a zombie.
And yes, I think Louis will appear again. And no, the plushie boy is DEFINITELY not him.
Leaving Louis aside, damn, I'm so happy. Lynn and Arne are exactly what they are in the game. They even added this line where Lynn says about using each other, which is a really important concept from the game... omg I'm so happy I want to scream about it everywhere
Louis FUCKING DIES. Also i wish Arne was always the hot twink vampire and not the kid
Nothing made sense
They portrayed louis as main character afterward killed him such a dumb anime
If ep. 2 isn't fire I probably won't finish watching.
