Wolf children - movie, single mother trying to raise to half Wolf children. More slice of life drama but could appeal to parents.
To be hero X - Chinese action anime, some graphic violence, no noticable fan service. It's connected super hero anotholgy, current only has 24 episodes, second season announced but not soon.
Godzilla SP - decent dub, premise and dialog can be a bit confusing. Not for everyone.
Something like A Silent Voice, that is well animated and elicits emotion from the viewer would be a good start.
Maquia is also a solid pick in my book.
Or basically anything from Ghibli even though most of them are older.
If you insist on doing a show:
Apothecary Diaries is probably a good pick.
Possibly Vinland Saga if you can convince them to make it to season 2 where the actual growth of the character takes place.
Frieren and Dungeon Meshi may also work.
And if they’re ok with a highschool setting I can never suggest Haikyuu!! Enough. I don’t even typically like sports anime but it does an exceptional job of making you care about the characters and watch them grow both as people and players.
Edit: going to add Violet Evergarden, either the movie or show. Or both.
Something that's *interesting for adults* AND *tv-14 or below* is a pain to find, Cowboy Bebop is rated 17+, same goes for Orb, even FMA Brotherhood...
Maybe Spy X Family [https://myanimelist.net/anime/50265/Spy\_x\_Family](https://myanimelist.net/anime/50265/Spy_x_Family)
In terms of showing people that anime can be mature (in a serious drama-ey sense, not in a sexual sense), serious and incredibly moving, there's really no better option.
Beautifully animated, one of the best war movies ever made, a film (so no multiple seasons), no anime-girl voice. well voice acted, and definitely interesting throughout. Also was referred to by Roger Ebert as one of the greatest war movies ever made, which carries weight with older people like presumably your parents or my generation.
Could consider Western animated shows as a way in like Scavengers Reign.
Japanese anime have a certain cultural hump you need to get over when it comes to some of the writing and visuals, and not everyone can immediately vibe with it. Western animations should be a tad more approachable to western audiences. Once your parents can accept animation as a format, getting them into Japanese Anime should be easier.

とんでもスキルで異世界放浪メシ
It didn’t turn my mom into someone that wants to watch more anime, but she thought it was cute.
You listed everything that anime IS about... it's from different culture, it's going to be weird and different... and that's why some of us like it.
but if you absolutely need to try something: Vampire Hunter D, anything made by studio Ghibli.
💀
You're missing a ton of great intro anime with that cutoff. Maybe Violet Evergarden.
