What’s the anime with the worst animation?
Extra credit if there’s one with horrible animation but you still love.
I’ve seen many people bash on TBATE, Blue Lock start of s2, and just so much more. **But what personally has the worst animation you’ve EVER seen, have you finished it? Did you like it? Im curious.**
For me, animation never bothered me that much if it’s not a fighting anime, I didn’t even notice the bad animation in TBATE and thought the anime was like a 7, but i’m the same guy who binges isekai slop in a day, so who am I to talk lmfao.

Murai no Koi or light anime if those count?
Sasakoi meanwhile was on the brink of collapse from the first episode. During a PV watch I joked that the 5 or so seconds of concert animation in it would be the only animated part of the whole series. It turned out prophetic and worse than expected because it was shown, shown again in flashbacks, and included in the OP because the show was that devoid of presentable parts otherwise.
I watched about half of Ken, it was stupid stupid fun; I could not watch Nora; and I have barely considered how to watch Kentoushi.
Regardless, Ex-Arm looks hard to beat for this.
My home hero on the other hand has almost no animation but I quite liked it.
Japanese culture is very hierarchical. You can bluntly reject someone who's below you, or even at times if they are at your same level. But you simply can't do that to someone who's above you.
Once the studio Visual Flight put him in charge of the project, and figured he knew what he was doing (despite again, him being a live action director and not an anime director) it would have been very difficult for the staff working below the director to push to change course.
The only people who could have reined him in would ahve been the studio execs or the producers of the studio, but they clearly trusted Kimura... to disastrous results.
Heck, we saw this in the US with musicals- The director of *Cats* rejected learning how other people made musicals and basically tried to recreate the process from first principles because he was sure he could do better, and we got *Cats.*
I’m talking people working in a basic craft they don’t know.
Thousand yard stares all around because they didn't bother with eye animation.
They also took shortcuts to not animate things like having the mc be in a foggy metaspace to avoid drawing the body, or have a bright light flash during a kiss to avoid drawing the kissing...
The weird 2d and 3d mix and that one dude who just looked like a cardboard cutout...
Not to mention those soulless eyes...
Even the situation she is in is quite serious/dire, her face is basically stuck with a permanent smile.
As 3D animation it's very bad. At this point I believe it's a money laundering schemes.
It's actually an interesting story. Ralph Bakshi was a talented animator, and him and his team did some groundbreaking work with techniques like rotoscoping in the 70s. But, Lord of the Rings was a bit bigger of a project than they could handle.
The film was animated in mixed mediums, the plan being some rotoscoping, some traditional hand drawn animation, and some drawn over live footage. However, they ran out of time and money, so when they got the live action footage in, shot by a second unit in Spain, they used a xeroxing technique I don't quite understand to give the footage an almost painted look, then just put that in the movie.
It looks cheap and terrible, because it was done cheaply and quickly since they didn't have money to do it better.
So it's funny 40 years later Ex Arm is basically repeating that same thing, just with a new technique. Using raw footage modified too little.

Talking about regular shows, *Cheat Skill Isekai* was the most memorable. You just watch it and then there’s just a still shot out of nowhere.
Should I skip season 1 and start with 2, or just not bother?
As you progress onto the following seasons, and then want to rewatch, it kind of grows on you because you know things improve.
Edit: also wanted to say that I started the anime on my own and stopped it 30 seconds in because of the awful animation lol but someone at work said the story is solid and animation gets better so I tried it out again months later, and now I have watched every single episode.
It's a bit of a slog but could be worse. 1st arc is very battle shonen-coded, the story gets way better from there
Signpost take over from S3 which is a huge improvement in 2D animation and art style, but towards the middle of S4 onwards they start cutting battle animation. S5 was pretty much a slideshow at times which sucks. S6 has been mostly better, I just wish a better studio had picked it up.
S3 and S4 are still some of my favourite anime of all time. S5 and S6 would probably also be up there if I hadn't caved and read the manga.
Also the current arc is my (and many other's) favourite manga arc, and the ones following that are of similar quality. On the whole it's a *very* good story
>Signpost take over from S3
Signpost are a subsidiary of Pierrot
I think one of the last seasons is on the top 30 anime of all time on MAL
mmmmmmm
* the spider isekai, all hail Aoi Yuki, the only saving grace of that anime
* Kemono Friends, somehow it become popular so I give a watch, it was cute
those are the one that come to mind...
Story was still very engaging. It still holds the subreddit record of highest karma to comment ratio for episodes with more than 1k karma because of that.
But yeah it is possibly the greatest VA work of all time.
The worst anime from an adaptation standpoint, might actually be OPM S3, though *Berserk* (2016) does make a strong case for itself. They’re not necessarily the worst anime to exist, but the bar was high enough given the source material, that the fall was spectacular.
Edit: I guess I have dyslexia and read "animation" as "adaptation" :P. In which case, the answer is still *Skelter+Heaven*, but *Ex-Arms* and *Hand Shakers* are good runner ups too.
The only film that got all of it right, deservedly thank god, was the Eclipse. It adapted the Eclipse so damn well and the animation across the film was excellent and the CGI much more effective and detailed.
They pulled all the stops for the finale of the Golden Age Arc, the film version trumps the original anime.
It is highly disappointing that the 2016 anime could not match the third GAA film when they were improving with each entry (Memorial Edition also cleaned it up more too.)
My Sister, My Writer
Both are putrid!
E: I looked up my old live reactions to make sure it was Next and not one of the other two Generation of Chaos parts... and the fansubs I had straight up put "This made me want to die. :)" under the Idea Factory logo in the credits. Has nothing to do with the animation itself, but it tells you just how much enthusiasm this OVA sparks in people.
Thermae Romae; the art resembled internet shit-posting memes, but I guess that was half the fun.
Stuff like "The fruit of evolution" makes OPM S3 look like a ghibli movie.
Just because Ex-Arms, Twinkle Nora, and Mars of Destruction exist doesn't mean OPM S3 become good.
Edit: Some of you really need to watch more shitty anime...
Counting a total show, though, boring answer, but Ex-Arm. But damn, if the rabbit hole about that whole show isn't funny as hell.
It’s not even close lol. Some scenes moved at like 1 frame per 2 seconds
Feels like watching slideshow
It has been interesting to see them refine their style though and slowly make it more palitable to the extent that I actually don't mind their latest adapted works. I'd still be very hesitant to go near any anime original material of theirs however.
Overall the show is fantastic. One of my all time favorite romances. Directed by Hideaki Anno (mostly)of Evangelion. But I guess they had HUGE production issues Anno left near the end. So episode 19 is literally characters drawn on standard ass paper on popsicle sticks with a camera pointed at them. Or characters talking outside of the screen while the camera is focused on a still frame of a background. Its honestly amazing ngl. Moreover, the episode is plot relevant. Its not a one off skip it. No the next episode picks up directly where this one leaves off. So its mandatory if you want to know whats happening in episode 20. So there are tidbits of animation but id argue this has the worst or lack thereof animation ever.
You can see it for free on YouTube:https://youtu.be/-vj_xrbrQtY?si=SppNhKeGZoAH4Ekj
It was janky, with weird boder thing on the models, the models are not even smooth. In thr opening, in one of the clip that shows the bus moving, it's just the model being moved. No animation whatsoever, even the wheels are static
Granted it was a small almost one man army kind of studio
Aside from the completely fucked production that somehow managed to shit out 10 episodes before completely falling apart and getting the last 2 delayed, they speed-ran through the plot and skipped a bunch of key moments for the main couple.
I dropped out after 7 episodes somehow and it had some pretty rough spots on the animation department. The performances choked a fair bit, but I also noticed characters being pretty off-model a few times which I rarely do. It crashed so hard that one of the studios is gone, and they cancelled the bluray release
Can anyone tell me if the animation gets better because the manga is solid
Worst that I love? I am a Spider, So What?! though it isn't *that* bad. Same studio as Berserk 2016, starts quite a lot better than Berserk, ends quite a lot worse than Berserk.
I' m sorry but OPM S3 is not even that much of a terrible adaptation compared to other absolute dogshit released throught the year.
That said, it was used in an ingenious way, which made [the scenes](https://youtu.be/E4M6_j16eoU) pretty funny
