Whats your top comedy anime?

I recently watched “the legendary hero is dead” and idk I couldn’t stop laughing and really enjoyed that anime, I’d like some more anime’s where comedy isn’t the only thing going for it but it’s definitely there

I’d love some recommendations as well

I watched konosuba and prison school and those were super funny too

gintama

eetsumkaus2026-01-07 16:50

Gintama is 30 great comedies in a trench coat

war_story_guy2026-01-07 18:04

As well as a really good serious one when it feels like it.

zandariii2026-01-07 18:33

Had to scroll too far to see this. My wife and I watch an episode or 2 every morning

AstralLobotomy2026-01-07 21:22

I discovered gintama this year, it’s been my binge show for night time haha

“Shogun kaiyoooo” and you know you’re in for one of the best 20 minutes of comedy in anime.

Dangerous-Ad65892026-01-08 08:43

No need for explanation. Just gintama

Decysiveguy2026-01-07 14:50

Ghost Stories Dub.

Just watch the show, show watcher.

Prize-Flamingo-3362026-01-07 18:03

Could you explain?

Oneill54912026-01-07 18:24

Narrator is absolutely unhinged

actionfirst12026-01-07 18:39

Narrator's the main character

StitchTheRipper2026-01-07 19:44

As others have said, the narrator shines. The subs have a narrator who is very serious and plays it straight with every line. Ian Cook (also English voice for brook) chews up every line and makes atmosphere that much funnier.

LegendaryZXT2026-01-07 19:45

My unpopular opinion is I like the Japanese version better. He says everything completely seriously with not a hint of irony and lets the ridiculous situations speak for themselves.

diesalher2026-01-07 21:38

I’m with you

duncandun2026-01-07 21:49

Since when is liking subs a controversial opinion

mymamaalwayssaid2026-01-07 17:50

I know there are a lot of comedy anime out there but something about this show has a direct link to my funny bone.

IStillLikeBeers2026-01-07 20:15

Kaguya has made me laugh the most. Close seconds are Konosuba and 100 Girlfriends.

DMC is so good

BoredOjiisan2026-01-07 15:14

Other than that:

Tomo-chan Is A Girl

Konosuba

Life Lessons With Uramichi Oniisan

MASHLE: MAGIC AND MUSCLES

Combatants Will Be Dispatched

The Holy Trinity of comedy anime to me are the following:

* ***The Disastrous Life of Saiki K***
* ***Asobi Asobase***
* ***Nichijou***

The worst thing is that I can't share this masterpiece with friends who don't watch anime. They would not go through the intro without questioning my sanity.

Atharaphelun2026-01-07 22:33

A shame that there's no season 2...

Donnie-G2026-01-08 07:17

If you're up for reading manga, J⇔M is the mangaka's next work which is still running. I'm currently enjoying it.

Granted there's still more Hinamatsuri manga to adapt if they wanted to do more.

Top tier comedy anime. Had me actually laughing out loud.

grim19522026-01-07 15:45

I highly suggest reading the manga of that anime. Not only because I doubt the whole thing will get adapted but because the manga has tons of omake at the end of chapters that add a ton of characterization and world building and they are not in the anime at all.

No-Excitement-53472026-01-07 15:47

Haven't watched a lot of comedy anime, so I'd say, Kaguya-sama Love is war.

Haru1st2026-01-07 15:50

Gintama. Still the only piece of media that made me fall off my chair from uncontrollably laughing too hard… About 150 episodes in.

Gintama, Daily life of highschool boys, Asobi Asobase, Saiki Kusuo

I'm just finishing off the second season of The Eminence in Shadow and it's genuinely one of the funniest shows I've seen in a while. I only watched it because it showed up on Netflix while my Crunchyroll app was wigging out, and it's purely described as fantasy/sci fi there.

The premise is an Isekai where the main character is basically a (slightly dim) sociopath with god like powers who just wants to roll play as a cool anti hero. Everything and everyone is a prop to him as he goes around trying to engineer what he considers to be awesome poses and scene, but for the rest of the world it's completely serious and real.

It's deliberately quite edgy and took a few episodes for me to get it, but particularly the second season is hilarious. It has more and better world building than most serious fantasy series and in the way the other characters try to interpret the MCs actions a serious commentary on organised religion and cult of personalities (I might be reading too much into this though).

**Hinamatsuri** and **A salad Bowl of Eccentrics**. Very similar stories yet very different. Two pubescent girls, one a lab experiment while the other is a princecess.

Definitely Konosuba, but I'd put 100 Girlfriends pretty high as well.

I also love when comedic elements (as in, more than just jokes) are thrown into other series, like Kaiju No 8 that I'm rewatching right now.

luxmorphine2026-01-07 17:55

Seitokai Yakuindomo. Especially Season 2 airplane opening. Also, Anime de Wakaru Shinryounaika. The humor a bit dated and won't fly in today's climate.

I unfortunately don't watch a lot of "funny" anime. I love One Punch Man, but the first season is the best one and the rest is severely hindered by the crap animation.

Mob Psycho 100 is pretty funny, but has a lot of heart and great story. Same with Zom100: Bucket List of the Dead.

Also shoutout to Gintama, Grand Blue, Asobi Asobase, Nichijou, Daily Life Of Highschool Boys, Hinamatsuri, Bocchi The Rock, Ghost Stories Dub, and DBZA (don't care if it's abridged, this gets a honorary title for the quality in writing).

in terms of JUST comedy disregarding plot and meanings and stuff, the cromartie high english dub had me on the floor laughing for half the time.

although my favorite anime that happens to fall into the comedy genre while also having good plot and characters and stuff is witch watch. ive been a fan of the manga for a while and that was funny enough to have me like asphyxiating but the anime did it SO much justice the voice acting made it 10x funnier than the manga

Fumoffu is one of the greatest shows ever made.

I love Bikini Warriors and Shimoneta for satirising fantasy and fan service tropes too.

Sayonara Zetsubo Sensei is kind of heady stuff, full of cultural references I didn’t get.

Flying Witch is not just funny, it’s a very peaceful show to watch.
