Can I watch Fate/Strange Fake even if I haven't watched the previous Fate titles?
I badly want to watch that particular fate series man I'm deeply obsessed with fsf's soundtrack. I've watched the trailer numerous times already. Hiroyuki Sawano's soundtracks never miss.
Is it possible for me to enjoy the anime as is without feeling "left out" or not having any idea what's happening as the story folds out?

So you can just watch it if you want to not gain anything from it execpt music and colorful visuals.
But if you want any substance like story or such, you will almost certianly want to have seen other fate series to know whats going on and who many of those characters are ahd where they came from and why they are important.
This series in particular gives you a lot about 1 character that shows up in a lot of the series.
So yeah, you can watch it alone yes, but should you? No, never.

Or Last Encore.
It's gonna be a varying degree from person to person anyway on how much you'll miss a reference. For example, I've been a huge fan of the Fate IP for years(year 1 FGO player), but I haven't touched a single thing about Tsukihime, yet I still enjoy Carnival Phantasm lol
Some people only watch Zero, some only watch Apocrypha, Garden of Sinners or Case Files, some only play the games like FGO or Samurai Remnant. You can't consume everything, so just start with what you want and just branch out if you get invested enough.
I can't speak to anything else but Unlimited blade works and heavens feel are both incredibly good and are highly recommended anyway.
It features the similarities/draws from the lore but you don’t need to watch FSN series to enjoy it.
I too am a big Sawano fan so excited for the music
Sure the timeline is different but if you’ve just watched the Ufo works of Zero, UBW and HF, it’s not *that* different as opposed to something like Apocrypha or Extra.
There are some slight differences but they wouldn’t have ever really come up in the anime’s. Tbh in terms of explicit differences I’d argue that Zero to the VN had more and no one outside die hard fans ever really say that they’re a separate continuity.
Though I will say, Strange Fake is probably the sort of series that the more you've seen of the franchise, the more you like it (As long as you don't think too much about lore and accept what the series was going for, basically a fanservice fanfare)
It was originally written as a fanfic for april fools by Baccano's author, before it was made into a real thing with Fate/Stay Night author, Nasu, so the concept has always been 'Fanservice from fate fans for fate fans'. That's why there are tons of cameo and elements from all over the franchise.
**But by all means, watch it if you're interested, from what I read in the novel, it's not to the point newcomers would get lost. A better 'entry' than Grand Order adaptations, for instance.**
I’ve only seen fate/zero and really enjoyed it
Those two and Zero are all we've got in the mainline story (2006 exists, but it sucks). After those two, you can watch any spin-off you want.
This line of thinking may make you think to watch Apocrypha before Fate/Strange Fake, because A-1 is making Fake and made Apocrypha, and while that's reasonable, it's not necessary. Zero and UB/ Heavens Feel will give more context for Fate overall, so I would give a stronger recommendation to watch them first, but you really don't have to watch any of them.
Pay attention on the prequel ova and the first episode that already aired since they will give you the main points you need to understand them better like the servant/master system. Feel free to ask on the weekly thread if you had questions about the episode. For what I heard (from light novel readers) some references are so obscure than even seasoned fans might have forgotten about it lol.
You can understand it blind. I’m not so sure about fully appreciating it.
**Fate Stay Night: Unlimited Blade Works**

**Fate Zero** this is actually a prequel to Fate/Stay Night, but is meant to be watched after as it's a prequel **sequel**.

\- [Season 2](https://myanimelist.net/anime/11741/Fate_Zero_2nd_Season)
**Lord El Melloi II** Best watched after Fate Zero. You could watch Strange Fake after this. If you want even more knowledge consider watching FGO as well.

**Fate Grand Order** An adaptation of the Fate/Grand Order gacha game. It's not the best but it generally serves its purpose. First Order is the prologue of the game, and then skips 5 arcs to Camelot so it's gonna be a bit of a jarring jump. Just keep that in mind and you'll be fine. Not totally 1:1 but if you've played the Persona games think of FGO as palaces on a world level. Why you need to watch this is basically
\- [First Order](https://myanimelist.net/anime/34321)
\- [Camelot Movie 1](https://myanimelist.net/anime/38085)

\- [Babylonia Season 1](https://myanimelist.net/anime/38084)
\- [Solomon Movie](https://myanimelist.net/anime/41497)
\-- [Moonlight Lostroom](https://myanimelist.net/anime/36915) (can honestly skip this ova. it is insanely confusing if you haven't played FGO.)
Also if you like visual novels you could [play that](https://store.steampowered.com/app/2396980/Fatestay_night_REMASTERED/) since it's the actual source material. Basically though you will appreciate Strange/Fake much more with as much knowledge you can muster.
Can you? Yeah? Should you? I say after seeing some to maximize your enjoyment
It’s essentially fanservice for fate fans. A bunch of tiny references to all of nasu’s works but not knowing them won’t impact your understanding of the plot itself
If you want to go in understanding the world you’re in, and looking for some more nods to other iterations, you can do what others are telling you to do.
There are IMO, only 2 shows that are going to be even remotely related in this case, which you can watch no questions asked IMO.
Fate Zero and Absolute Demonic Front Babylonia.
Some characters are linked to these shows, so you could watch only these 2.
As a fate enjoyer I would be remiss to not suggest any interaction with the original routes (Fate, UBW, HF) but avoid that mess if you don’t want to get into it.
Beyond that, you actually want to know some things not detailed in fate animes, specifically you can look a little into fate prototype and tsukihime, since there are some heavy implications from these two.
Or don’t, since you don’t want to play too much with your food, just go into strange fake, enjoy it.
