It's more worrying thinking how many crimes happened around this boy in the spam of a "year".
The year with the worst homicides rate in japanese recent history /jk

Not just the crimes but also the property damage. Every movie ends with a F&F action sequence with at least a building destroyed.
The theme song is so nostalgic it gave me goosebumps
Goro_Lima2026-01-07 16:20
Is it worth watching?
gianben1232026-01-07 16:26
If you have time to spare for 1K+ episodes and 20-30 movies, sure
Lemon14122026-01-07 16:51
If you have a friend who likes anime who you can banter with while watching it, I would definitely watch the show by just following [Xerblade's list of important episodes](https://www.xerblade.com/p/detective-conan-important-episode-list.html?m=0). I did this back when I was 24-ish and I am not usually a fan of long anime.
The list is not just the stuff that has insane story developments - you get some classic case of the week episodes, often worth watching purely because a new character gets introduced or a different recurring character gets developed. The movies are also just in there because they're fun spectacles. The only thing I disagree with is watching the Magic Kaito in parallel, which I personally did not enjoy.

The list hasn't been updated in a while, but it hasn't been 3 years. If you are referring to the latest entry being a movie from 2022, then that's because the movies assume you are up to date with the manga, so they could spoil things that you haven't seen in the anime yet. As a solution, Xerblade puts those movies after the episodes that they could spoil. The episode right before the movie is from September 2024.
Awesome_Leaf2026-01-07 20:35
oh man, this is exactly what i was looking for thank you. a good mystery of the week is fine, but going years with no movement of the macro-plot is what made me originally drop the show
edit, do you know if there is anything like this for the manga?
RPO7772026-01-07 17:01
There's truth to that. There are more Conan movies (29) than there are James Bond movies (25).
The Conan anime (1187) is a bit longer presently than One Piece (1,155).
The Netflix "Conan vs. the Black Organization" cut basically lets you skip like decades worth of filler and catch up on the main conflict. T
Then, you can watch pretty much any other episode in any order and be entertained, since the anime focuses on "1 murder at a time" plots where most of the episodes are self-contained stories. Conan is the quintessential "you can start this series anywhere" anime, which is part of the series popularity.
gianben1232026-01-07 17:14
The problem with the episode selection is that they skipped too much, even Contact with the Black Organization got skipped when it's literally Conan vs. the Black Organization.
Episode 345 is essentially meaningless if one haven't watched all of Detective Conan (at least the manga canon EPs) up until that point. Every twist is just a reveal now instead of payoffs. Even includes characters the selection not yet introduced like Heiji.
It's like whoever is ordering the episodes to be dubbed has not watched the anime to see if they make sense for a new viewer.
They're trying to patch things up with "Rivals of the Great Detective" selection but it just made things messy cause it's out of order.
I'm convinced they’re not even trying to market to new audiences tbh. This is gauging the existing fanbase specifically.

The huge stack of goldmine that is the comics in my family's house was a huge life saving from when I was not allowed to have phone
SecurityOdd48612026-01-07 17:02
I loved conan as a child, I checked back 10 years ago and was surprised that it has not ended yet. Gonna be honest, I wish it would end, but from what I have heard, the actual main plot has barely progressed, which makes conan so much worse than One Piece for story telling.
Is the anime good? Yeah it is and it is somewhat fun watching all these cases and trials and what not, but I would really like to see how the story ends
UltimateArtist8292026-01-07 17:16
Can’t believe I’m as old as Conan manga / anime
One_Bend74232026-01-07 17:34
This is one of those series that I just can't get into. The artstyle is meh, the premise is bizarre and I'm not into little boys and/or shorts.
It was really strange to see the Japanese take pictures of all the Conan crap in Tokyo last summer too - mostly adult women (the Skytree had all kinds of Conan stuff inside, for some reason, and a lot of advertisement in Ikebukuro). Maybe there was a new movie release, featuring Skytree as the setting? idk, idc
phantomthiefkid_2026-01-07 17:41
Is it really that strange to see Japanese women being into a series with a shota protagonist and a lot of handsome male characters of all ages?
Pleasant_Being_96252026-01-07 17:44
the fact that people born in 1996 are turning 30 this year 💀
KuroBlack413182722026-01-07 17:55
30 years and still a damn kid, one piece is better at this point.
gianben1232026-01-07 17:57
even if Detective Conan wasn't in a floating timeline....
It's confirmed Conan and Haibara never grown an inch after shrinking compared to the Detective Boys after a health checkup examination.
So even if they caught the Black Organization, Conan will remain a kid until they find a permanent antidote.
johndrake6662026-01-07 18:09
I was watching this since I was a little boy, still watching it sometimes 🤣 I don't watch it weekly but I know it's always a new story/episode!
zerosaver2026-01-07 18:26
At the rate it's going, Conan will outlive us, all while still being a kid
AbsolViridi2026-01-07 18:27
Happy 30th anniversary! Conan is one of the anime I've been following the longest, at least since 2013 (but I had watched some episodes on TV even before that). (imo) The quality of the story and writing overall has declined a lot but I'm very attached to the characters at this point so it's still my favourite anime! I'll go rewatch my favourite episodes to celebrate (episodes 521-523).
