I dont have any film recommendations, but i have a couple shorter Anime recs that made me cry. Plastic Memories, Your Lie in April, Charlotte. I think they're all 3 less than 25 episodes, but I havent watched them in a hot minute so I could be wrong.

For a more recent show Apocalypse Hotel has some beautifully poignant episodes.

I didn’t see anyone mention it so maybe this is a hot take but when I first got into anime one of the first shows that made me bawl my eyes out on multiple occasions and lowkey got me hooked on anime for good was akame ga kill. Idk where you’d be able to find it because it’s been years and based off everything everyone else was suggesting idk if it’s what you’re looking for but I think this show conveys great loss really well and actually gets your emotions involved in something you might not think will go that way.

I’ll say it again cuz it was in the middle of the rant but my rec is AKAME GA KILL.

I scrolled a lot and did a search of the comments and didn't see this one: ZENSHU.

Absolutely beautiful story and it hit me hard in the feels. A love letter to animation that needs its own love letter. It's dubbed and subbed in English with lots of other languages dubbed as well. It's a one season original anime streaming on Crunchyroll.
