what's the appeal of watching a brazenly sexist scumbag "get what he deserves" when said sexist scumbag is also somehow the local heartthrob and also somehow still manages to be the #1 hero of his place?
Check his post history, he basically watched episode one and started crying in every single subreddit he comes across about how Konosuba is "Sexist", over and over again. At this point OP is either trolling or under the age of 12.

Try laughing.
DrFillGood2026-01-07 20:22
Jokes are good, it skewers the isekai trope well. Characters are fleshed out, it's lots of fun.
N7CombatWombat2026-01-07 20:24
Welcome to comedy, one of the most subjective aspects of the human race.
Artsy7272026-01-07 20:25
Its a comedy isekai making fun of tropes, what did you come in expecting?
Born_Usual9982026-01-07 20:26
not to double down on the gross stuff
Artsy7272026-01-07 20:29
if its not your humor its not your humor, i think you understand the appeal its just not for you.
Born_Usual9982026-01-07 20:41
I wanna series without that stuff (light in tone preferably)
abandoned_idol2026-01-07 23:38
Half of anime does this.
I'm not going to defend either side, just pointing out the fact.
Best to just forget about it if you dislike the gross tropes.
Born_Usual9982026-01-08 00:31
why is it like this though?
abandoned_idol2026-01-08 01:08
Culture is incredibly alienating, arbitrary, and diverse.
I'm not saying that culture is justified or good.
In Japan, they have a bunch of very weird animation tropes, and most western anime fans eventually become desensitized and tolerate these alienating tropes.
Think of these tropes/patterns as cartoon tropes. e.g. In Tom and Jerry, Tom keeps getting severely hurt, but it's just a thing that happens in cartoons. Why do cartoons have one sided violence in them??
TL;DR Japan is fucking weird/different.
That said, there's probably a number of anime that are much more reasonable and don't contain the tropes that bother you. e.g. Erased, Medalist, etc.
I recommend you check out "100 Girlfriends", not necessarily because you'll like it, but because it is an explicit and dense showcase of all the dumb cartoon tropes of Japan that helps new fans familiarize themselves with common non-sensical anime tropes. e.g. Why does the girl hit the boy she likes? Tsundere. How can a character see if they have their eyes closed all the time? Etc.
That said, I did find "100 Girlfriends" much more pleasant, since the central joke of the show is that the boyfriend is impossibly supportive and kind to his harem of girlfriends (each girlfriend representing a common anime trope).
If you don't like a show, just dismiss it and try finding something else.
If you want to get very upset, watch "Mushoku Tensei" XD. That one celebrates sexual assault (I'm not kidding).
Born_Usual9982026-01-08 01:11
why do you think I'd want to watch a show with more?
abandoned_idol2026-01-08 01:24
I didn't say that you'd like it.
"Not necessarily because you'll like it"
I said that it will give you a large number of examples of these uncanny cartoon tropes, allowing you to more easily understand my point.
And you don't have to watch it.
Not watching anything is also viable. You get to decide what you want to watch.
Born_Usual9982026-01-08 01:24
I did enjoy panty and stocking though cause panty's sexuality was her own
abandoned_idol2026-01-08 01:31
Sounds about right.
Most anime that make sexual jokes tend to do so at the expense of female characters/viewers.
So probably about half of them will be dealbreakers for you. These are common.
Born_Usual9982026-01-08 01:32
and that's why i'd tolerate konosuba if darkness was the MC
abandoned_idol2026-01-08 01:36
Yeah, Kazuma isn't very compelling.
I much prefer Ojisan from Isekai Ojisan, where all the jokes revolve around him being a naive videogame nerd. He never harasses anyone, nor does he even think of sex.
Born_Usual9982026-01-08 01:38
now that sounds like something i'd watch! (is there a dub?)
Born_Usual9982026-01-08 01:40
there is kill-la-kill which is supposed to have a body/sex-positivity message but certain rapey jokes made me drop it
Born_Usual9982026-01-08 01:48
also, as an avid enjoyer of the looney tunes and other old catoons the violence is not always "one-sided"
Born_Usual9982026-01-08 02:38
also, if you were going to recommend then i should've linked [this](https://www.reddit.com/r/Animesuggest/comments/1px94pz/i_want_a_series_without_sexismgross_stuff/) too
ExcelIsSuck2026-01-07 20:25
then maybe its not for you bud, you dont have to understand the appeal of everything so id suggest just like... not watching it
Scottamemnon2026-01-07 20:26
Wow.. thats what you got out of Konosuba? Its basically an unhinged Dnd campaign where all the players made the worst, most outragous characters they could come up with.. and the GM said.. sure you are going to do my story even if your chracters make no sense and shouldnt work.
Artsy7272026-01-07 20:28
Genuinely the best description of this anime.
SmurfRockRune2026-01-07 20:26
You're just too smart to think lol boobs is peak comedy.
baseballlover7232026-01-07 20:27
> what's the appeal of watching a brazenly sexist scumbag "get what he deserves"
I would not call this a primary reason to watch KonoSuba. So I think your issue is that are trying to extract a different story than is being presented to you.
melcarba2026-01-07 20:31
Then, **you don't**. That's it. No post here is going to convince you otherwise.
dienomighte2026-01-07 20:33
The rest of his party is also terrible, it's the anime version of Always Sunny
Kadmos12026-01-08 01:43
Cristina Vee was hilarious as Darkness.

I thought they always succeeded for the most part
crxsso_dssreer2026-01-07 21:28
neither do I, that's why I didn't bother with it and move on. Time is precious.
RottenPingu12026-01-07 21:37
I enjoy it because it's a comedy and not to be taken seriously but I do find it uncomfortable when people use him as some kind of role model. ...but that's a problem with fans... not the anime
Peacemkr452026-01-07 23:34
Just reading your post tells me the problem isn't Konosuba, it's you. You see "brazenly sexist scumbag" because that's what you were programmed to see. If you want a reality slap in the face. go watch Blazing Saddles by Mel Brooks. try not to cry.
Born_Usual9982026-01-07 23:35
the racists don't win in that movie
Peacemkr452026-01-07 23:49
Actually, they do.
Born_Usual9982026-01-07 23:58
are you sure, last time i watched it i thought the black Sherrif outsmarts and defeats the backwards-thinking runner of the town and proves himself to the townsfolk
Peacemkr452026-01-08 04:20
and who was the movie marketed to?
Xx420EdgeLord69xX2026-01-08 00:32
Do you do literally anything else besides obsess over "sexism" in anime? You've been posting threads about it every couple of days for months.
Knuckleheaded-beardo2026-01-08 12:23
That makes two of us. Many series were dropped by me because of gross stuff like it.
