As the title says I want to get into anime but barely know where to start..
Me and my girlfriend is gonna watch the chainsaw man movie, is there anything is should prepare for or expect?
I really just want to seem as interested as possible for her cause I lowkey lied in the beginning of meeting her telling her about me being into anime and stuff like that😭

I’m gonna try and catch up before
Movie is sequel
And if u want to get in anime, I'd recommend u to watch first "Death note"
An Amazing anime, u'll get hooked by ep 4...Try it
Maybe start with not doing that? I’m sure your GF would LOVE to introduce you to her hobbies
But she better be quick cause I got a whole bunch of anime to watch thanks to everyone that replied ((:
though I don’t know if I’d really recommend chainsaw man as someones gateway into anime. it’s a good series that in my personal top 10 but it’s weird even by anime standards. I’d say watch the first 3 episodes as that will almost give you a good idea of what the series is like.
After that though, go to My Anime List. Click on Anime>Seasonal Anime>and select a year and a season if you want. Just scroll through the "TV" sections and pick 3 things above a 7.0 that catch your eye and give them a try, usually about 3 episodes is fair. This is how I find new anime I like, even to this day.
Though, it would be easy to just ask her some of her favorites are and start with those. See if you have similar taste or at the very least, she might appreciate you showing interest and giving your time to art she enjoys. Though, it's not good to lie in relationships, especially about interests. Lucky for you, anime rules so I'm sure it'll be true in no time!
Besides, she's an anime fan. She probably clocked you as a casual at best the second you said you liked anime too, lmao. It's good that you want to make a real effort now though, just have some patience and persistence and I'm sure you'll find stuff you enjoy. It's a medium, not a genre so there something for everyone!
Heads up that Chainsaw Man is somewhat weird, and not something I would typically recommend to somebody first getting into anime. I don't think it would necessarily be hard to follow, just weird and different in ways you don't typically see in live action shows or movies. Some anime works are more "beginner friendly" than others. Exact recommendations would depend on what sort of shows you enjoy in other media, but Ghibli films and Cowboy Bebop are common entry points.
Just know that anime is sort of its own sub-medium like Television compared to Movies, rather than a genre itself. Assuming you do watch CSM S1 ahead of the movie, it's gonna have some stuff you might find weird or maybe even offputting, and while that might be more common in anime than elsewhere not everything will be like that. So even if you see elements you don't like in a few shows, don't let it dissuade you from others. For example,I hate most Isekai anime because most are cheap, poorly written wish fulfillment, but there's also some Isekai I love that aren't like that at all.
You just slowly watch fun recent anime until you start getting hooked. That's the most common path for most newbies.
After that think about what genre you like in general for any medium then just look at a top list of what people think the best in the series' or movies in that genre are and watch one of those movies or genres. That way you will maybe know what the best anime has to offer is and if you like it. Afterwards just look at more recommendations (ask your girlfriend) or look at what you find interesting and continue from there.
Anyways, don't you need 10 Karma to post something or does that not count for help posts?
