recommendations for a new anime fan

I'm fairly new to anime, as I only started watching it in late 2025. All the series that I've watched (AOT, Vinland, Cyberpunk Edgerunners, and Chainsaw Man) have had either sad endings, are unfinished, or both. Somebody please recommend me a good series that is finished and that wont leave me with a hole through my heart 😭

full metal alchemist brotherhood is pretty solid and pretty friendly for beginners. cant go wrong with it.

WadeD962026-01-08 01:47

Assassination classroom is another solid one

dyollnai07012026-01-08 01:50

Very solid show. Ending broke me

Fantastic_Fan38722026-01-08 01:44

Death Note

JamesSomdet2026-01-08 01:45

I would recommend Angel Beats. I think the ending is very uplifting when you think about it.

almisami2026-01-08 01:59

I mean sure, but to get there you gotta get your heart pushed through a meat grinder!

WadeD962026-01-08 01:46

Something that'll get you hooked and fall in love with the characters? Fairytail

A fantastic selection for a beginner.

I need to add

Trigun (Both the 1998 original and CGI prequel by Studio Orange)

Code Grass (Arguably one of the best introductions to the Mecha genre. [Absolute banger of an opening theme.](https://youtu.be/G8CFuZ9MseQ?si=AJ2m6Yr6uAyj-_vF))

Death parade ( [If the opening doesn't suck you in, nothing will](https://youtu.be/Ca5Tf5BDSYI?si=BhJObBqJ9yAYz9XF) )

Ghost Stories DUB (probably the funniest thing that will ever be allowed to be put on air in an official capacity)

Fullmetal Panic (no relationship with Fullmetal Alchemist)

Great Teacher Onizuka (admittedly some of the humor is dated, [banger of an OP](https://youtu.be/2JGl6UzfPkE?si=63XkSklWhJlrHpxZ) )

Ah, my Goddess! (Probably the best introduction into the Magical Girlfriend Genre, [OP](https://youtu.be/E0EL_DBYK_8?si=CJxfCmL5PM5fs11M) )

Erased ([It's just good cinema.](https://youtu.be/fodAJ-1dN3I?si=EH9kHYlgi0o-4hY4) )

There are so many more series, but then you get into much more niche art. Like I wouldn't recommend Ouran High School Host Club to a beginner because it's a parody of the harem and Otome game genre.

okay so, uhm, fair warning, most good animes are either incomplete, never getting another season, or sad as frick. so, warning for that. i can recommend you maybe Demon Slayer..? It's still ongoing but will be finished soon so.. Haikyuu!! is an upbeat anime and completed. But, it is a sports anime so idk if you'd be into that. Apothecary Dairies is good. As well as Dr.Stone. I can't really think of a lot of happy animes. Best I can give you. If anything, just stick to romance (Avoid Your Lie In April and I Want To Eat Your Pancreas unless you want to cry.) animes such as Horimiya, Fruits Basket, etc etc. But, if you're more in the action scene there aren't many happy animes. Dr.Stone I suppose is your best bet for a relatively upbeat and action filled anime. Happy watching!

shm4y2026-01-08 01:56

Are you ready to make the jump from anime to manga?

There’s a few good series I can think of which have completed storyline’s in the original manga but incomplete anime adaptations:

1) Bleach
2) Yona of the Dawn
3) Demon Slayer
4) Jujutsu Kaisen

Emotion-Nexus2026-01-08 02:02

I'd like to recommend Orb: On the Movements on the Earth. It's what I'd consider to be anime of the decade, is a full complete story, and is very easy to get into for new anime watchers in my opinion.

I can't guarantee that it won't destroy you, but I think it's a good destroy if you ask me

abandoned_idol2026-01-08 02:02

I wish I could share complete animes.

Most are incomplete. The few that do complete I tend to forget about (despite being very well written).

I remember... "Mob Psycho", that one is finished.

You'll also be missing out on all the anime worth watching, but as you requested, I'll omit mentioning any of them.

SwiprNoSwipn2026-01-08 02:04

Everyone else recommending alot of good stuff, but i recently watched To Be Hero X and fell in love. Went in blind and was blown away.

almisami2026-01-08 02:22

You watched what can be described as Shonen action shows. (Shows aimed at young men)

Most of them are unfinished.

I guess there's Bleach and Code Geass if you want something that has an end.

Unusual_Adeptness3452026-01-08 02:43

Tenchi Muyo and Mushishi.

Ok_Surround81892026-01-08 02:50

MHA good for Beginners

AidenKarma2026-01-08 03:22

Assassination classroom

Jumpy-Cheek68012026-01-08 04:13

I think Haikyuu is what you are looking for! It's finished and no one dies from playing volleyball lol

rhythmic_bookworm2026-01-09 10:19

Mob Psycho 100 is one of my favorites to recommend. I just finished Ranking of Kings and really enjoyed that one as well (only watch the first season as the second "season" on Crunchyroll is some of spinoff). Bocchi the Rock is a light hearted one.

Just watch Haikyuu already. It's better than most things in the shounen / action genre and nobody dies, gets blown up or sliced in half to keep you invested. Probably one of the greatest underdog stories ever told.

The only bad things about it is sometimes there's a few bad jokes and they will happen in the middle of serious scenes causing tonal whiplash. They also overuse some of the same sound effects in the first few seasons for comedy as well. Other than that, the characters, action, music are top tier. Every season finale might have you literally jumping out of your seat.

If you finish season one (and the first episode of season two ) and aren't hooked, I'll eat an entire volleyball.

Edit: I say all this as a jaded, 28-32 y/o anime fan who has been hooked on Japanese cartoons since Pokémon episode one and has seen most shonen you can name. I don't watch much anymore, but Haikyuu is very very special to me.
