Can anyone recommend an anime that won't make your eyes bleed?

Please recommend a normal adult anime drama without super cool guy, pathetic phrases, without fan service, without stupid humor and something that you could watch without rolling your eyes for ages? Why don't they create such titles? Why don't they make such animes as:

* Ergo Proxy,
* Stein's Gate,
* Terror in resonance
* 91 Days,
* Gangsta,
* Berserk,
* Death Parade
* Psycho-Pass and others.

Especially Ergo Proxy. Does anyone know anything like that?

Hi GlebarioS, it seems like you might be looking for new anime to watch!

The users of this subreddit came up with [a chart of anime recommendations for newcomers and veterans](https://i.redd.it/0w1v880jtq661.png) and [an awesome longer flowchart](https://i.redd.it/vdzlkodz19c71.png). Maybe you can find something there that you'll like \^.\^

You can try:

1) Apothecary Diaries

2) Erased

3) Orb: On the Movements of the Earth

4) The Summer When Hikaru Died

And if you find any issues with these, feel free to share such that I can come up with better ones.

GlebarioS2026-01-08 02:03

Thanks! I've seen Erased. But I haven't seen the others yet. I see they're relatively new so I definitely missed them.

abandoned_idol2026-01-08 02:23

Apothecary Diaries is a mandatory watch. I'm surprised you haven't heard of it yet.

You'll be thanking the person recommending it and cursing yourself for not noticing it sooner.

"Season 3" is scheduled for the end of this year.

The premise is a doctor in a fictional ancient China solving murder mysteries centered around political intrigue.

I consider Apothecary "super adult" (mature, non-juvenile, dry), but let me know if and why you think otherwise. I'm only human and open to learning new things.

GlebarioS2026-01-08 02:32

I haven't watched many titles in the last five years, so I missed Apothecary Diaries. But I'll watch it soon and let you know if I liked it)

Vinland Saga, Shinsekai Yori, Tengoku Damaikyou

GlebarioS2026-01-08 02:04

I've seen all of them except Shinsekai Yori. But thank you!

Awful_At_Math2026-01-08 02:05

I gotch you, man. Excel Saga.

GlebarioS2026-01-08 02:06

Should I hang myself now or can I do it later?)

Specific-Word-59512026-01-08 02:06

What you looking for is seinen genre that borders dystopian.

Dorohedoro

Blame (manga's better than the anime movie.)

Akudama Drive

Pet

20th Century Boys (and 21st century boys sequal). If you enjoy that, try Pluto and Monster.

GlebarioS2026-01-08 02:09

Thanks! I've seen Dorohedoro. But I haven't even heard of the others. I'll watch them, thanks!

Hot_Royal_49202026-01-08 02:23

You'll love monster. That show is a masterpiece.

A few other recommendations...

Shin sekai yori

Orb
Serial experiments lain

Mushi-shi

Spice&Wolf

Texhnolyze

Acca

Heavenly delusion

All of those shows may be up your alley. Some of em are rather heavy to watch, others are a bit more light-hearted.
None of them are very "anime" in the way you seem to dislike.

GlebarioS2026-01-08 02:37

Thanks! I started watching Monster but couldn't get past episode 3. Although I heard it was a masterpiece. I'll try to watch it again.

- Legend of the Galactic Heroes - Watch the first two prequel films then skip to EP3 of the main OVA. There is also the Gaiden prequel that is worth watching.

- Moribito - Guardian of the Spirit

- Jin-Roh: The Wolf Brigade

GlebarioS2026-01-08 03:12

Thanks!
