Oh god... if they are actually going to remake it or adapt the rest, I'm going to be so fucking happy and it'll be anime of the year for me!
ReverseDartz2026-01-08 12:32
They already announced the Reborn remake a while ago, deserves it too.
Hope Air Gear is next.
Knuckleheaded-beardo2026-01-08 18:52
Tokyo Ghoul, when?
Acceptable_Try_74782026-01-08 13:22
Don't do that. don't give me hope. my heart can't take another pachinko machine announcement.

I'm happy to see Jaadugar in anime list. Also I wish for Love Unseen Beneath the Clear Night Sky trailer since there's Shochiku exhibition.
1000-MAT2026-01-08 04:25
Already? Isn't it a little early?
AkiyamaNM72026-01-08 06:08
No? AnimeJapan 2025 was March 22nd & 23rd.
1000-MAT2026-01-08 13:02
Yes, but January has only just begun.
SadCasterMinion2026-01-08 13:58
The date at the bottom says March 28-29th
1000-MAT2026-01-08 14:53
Yes, I'm talking about the fact that there's already a promotional visual for the event. I know it happens before the spring season; I follow AnimeJapan's official accounts.
AkiyamaNM72026-01-08 21:01
I don't know if they did it for anything before, but last year's key visual was also posted in January too.
I went to this many many years ago. Like back when it started in 2014. Has it gotten better? I felt like it was really just geared for children and casual anime fans. It was really disappointing. It was nothing like Comiket or even an anime convention.
ali941272026-01-08 04:43
There's not much to do imo. It's kinda like if it was only the super corpo side of AX. If you're into seiyuu, it's cool to see them live, but all the stage events are lottery-based.
mysterybiscuitsoyeah2026-01-08 04:59
id agree with you that its quite different than western anime conventions. it's pretty much the full might of the anime marketing machinery at work - it's a good go if you want to get promoted the latest seasonals or some other well-established IPs (think things like Demon Slayer), because those are the main features.
I'd say the focus is definitely on casual and regular anime watchers.
And yes, the stages where seiyuus and anime staff make regular rounds are the main draw. Usually a very good portion of the big names show up (this is its main difference from most western cons!), and while all of the stages are lottery based, there are a good amount where you CAN walk-in or just watch from the sidelines. I did myself for Hibimeshi, Grand Blue last year and even FGO, which did feature a few big names (and for the latter 2 are decently established IP). and I'm a seiyuu fan, so i loved it.
...Some japanese understanding required for that latter bit though.
messem102026-01-08 05:10
I went this past March. Was neat, but very focused on the companies showcasing their new shows rather than what we'd expect from a western fan-based convention. It is closer to E3 or CES for anime.
Iron_Kingpin2026-01-08 04:54
Interesting to see Gero at the front
Fools_Requiem2026-01-08 05:01
I'm not familiar with this. Is this a con?
MauledCharcoal2026-01-08 05:36
Big anime event. You'll get a lot of announcements and trailers released during it. As someone said it's kinda more focused on the promotion and stuff so it's like CES or E3 more than ComicCon
atropicalpenguin2026-01-08 22:39
It's Christmas for weebs.
DarylDixon5865182026-01-08 05:04

* Trigun
Bottom row:

Then some classics like Chibi Maruko-chan (recently had an opening with Ado, and it's one of those long-running anime), the guy from that anime where he relives the time or something ReLife or something like that, Trigun guy, and of course Katekyou Hitman Reborn 🗣️🗣️🗣️

brb10062026-01-08 20:10
Correction, Unico: Awakening (aka "Unico: An Original Manga") is an ongoing OEL Manga reboot series by American writer Samuel Sattin (huge Osamu Tezuka fan) and Japanese art duo Gurihiru. The project begun as an international Kickstarter campaign before Scholastic picked up the publishing rights in Fall 2023. The series is a collaboration between Tezuka Productions and Scholastic and currently slated for 8 volumes.
Back in Fall 2024, Reemborko (who owns the UK merch rights to the Unico Reboot) announced that [an animated adaptation of the Unico Reboot is in early development.](https://www.licensingmagazine.com/2024/09/10/ble-24-exclusive-interview-with-reemsborko/)
Currently own the first 2 volumes and I love how Sattin actually understood Tezuka's Unico.
brb10062026-01-08 20:07
Tezuka Productions just kicked off [Unico's 50th Anniversary Celebration](https://books.shopro.co.jp/unico/). Japan recently translated "Unico: Awakening" (an OEL Reboot series) in December 2025 after it was first released in North America and other countries in July 2024.

No love for Unico :(
M3talK_H3ronaru2026-01-08 21:04
Unico who?
brb10062026-01-08 21:46
A [unicorn character](https://i.pinimg.com/474x/47/41/42/47414236a2fd01cc28bd1b83bc64b9bb.jpg) created Osamu Tezuka that was originally a collaborative effort with Sanrio in 1976.
Brief History Lesson
Unico was first drawn as an unnamed unicorn character Tezuka doodled on his sketch book during his trip to LA during production of Sanrio's Metamorphosis. The unnamed character was given the name "Unico" during his flight back to Japan before starring in his own manga series. The manga ran from November 1976 till March 1979 with a total of 8 chapter and 2 volumes. The original manga would later gain an English translation in 2012 through a Kickstarter campaign and later gained a re-release in 2015.
In Japanese interviews, Tezuka stated that unlike his other works. Unico was aimed more at the International and Western audiences. To the point that the entire manga used the left-to-right reading style and was made in full-color. He felt that the Unico Manga would been the perfect introduction to manga for the American demographic. However, the manga was published on Sanrio's short-lived magazine "Lyrica" which shutdown in 1979. Lyrica Magazine was a shojo magazine that contained manga that had a notably Western-style approach in terms of storytelling.
Unico would star in a 1979 pilot short followed by two featured films released in 1981 and 1983. Tezuka also made a version of Unico that was geared towards the Elementary School demographic made between 1980 and 1984 and a few Picture Books. After his death in 1989, Tezuka Productions would fully own the rights to the franchise.

Is that mother FUCKING UNICO???
I pray to God it isn't the weird remake comic of them in New York and is a new reboot or something
brb10062026-01-08 20:14
Funny you mentioned that since Tezuka's Unico has actually gained a reboot series called ["Unico: Awakening" that's been running since 2024](https://kids.scholastic.com/kid/books/unico/). It's an OEL reboot that takes cues from the Sanrio Unico films and the original manga. The first volume recently gained a Japanese release in December 18, 2025 after it was first released in the United States and international markets in Summer 2024.
Time_Fracture2026-01-08 09:12
Yaiba, Maruko-chan, Subaru and Emilia from Re:Zero, Vash from Trigun, two Marriagetoxin's MC, LuluttoLily, and Ranma 1/2.
I want to see Manga We Want to See Animated ranking of this year. Previous winners that have been announced to have an adaptation includes Psyren and Kindergarten Wars (2024) and Ramparts of Ice and Ninja vs. Gokudo (2023).

Is the top left dude from Lucky Star store manager
Torque-A2026-01-08 12:57
Yep, that’s Meito Anizawa aka Anime Tenchou. He was originally created in 2002 as the mascot for Animate - one of Japan’s biggest anime retailers. Lucky Star just asked to use him.
FarCritical2026-01-08 09:41
Vash!
ChampionshipIll61712026-01-08 10:36
Yeahhh, if they end up adapting or remaking it, it’ll definitely be one of the best anime of the year for sure!
Best_Cartographer5082026-01-08 10:58
Nice to see the Marriage Toxin main characters getting two slots.
Surprised Gekkomon isn't there since he's so small compared to Akane who was also left out.
Are there any news regarding a new Yatterman project? I think the Isekai Doronjo manga just ended.
ReverseDartz2026-01-08 12:32

The one mid-flying kick.
Edit: Ahhhh, some kinda mascot, thats why I remember seeing him in Lucky Star.
