Three Times "My Bride is a Mermaid" Went TOO Far
Keep in mind, I KNOW I am going to get downvoted for this since I've always gotten downvotes criticizing this anime. I know someone is just going to say "just enjoy the funny slapstick man". But you know what? I decided I am going to speak my mind anyway.

My Bride is a Mermaid was a 2007 rom-com anime about a boy named Nagasumi Michishio who drowns at sea and is saved by a mermaid named Sun Seto. However, due to mermaid law, Nagasumi and Sun must marry or one of them has to die. So, Sun becomes Nagasumi's fiance and they actually develop feelings for each other, but Suns Yakuza father and all her friends are maniacs who are obsessed with her, so they make it their lives missions to murder Nagasumi to "get her back".
Now, some parts I am willing to laugh at. Like when Nagasumi walks in on Sun in the bath and she accidentally uses her sonic wave on him.
Some parts are iffy.
But, if you ask me, there are atleast three instances where they went Way too far.
Episode 6: Episode six has Sun attending Nagasumi's school, where she instantly becomes popular. A group of three boys, one of which is Saru, notice that Nagasumi is especially close to Sun and get envious. Now, later in the anime the entire class beats Nagasumi up for it. That I can atleast understand and find funny to some degree, but what do THESE three boys do to Nagasumi before that? They KISS him! They surround him and constantly shower the unwilling screaming boy with kisses. Mawari has to restrain then and wipe their lipstick marks off of Nagasumi's crying face. Not only is this completely ridiculous given the circumstance (they are jealous of a boy for being with a girl, so they get revenge by kissing the boy!?), but it classifies as sexual harassment, with the emphasis on intended harassment.
Episode 12: (Before this was an episode where Nagasumi's Parents beat him so hard he needs to go to the hospital, AFTER he nearly dies. Which is awful, but not as bad as THIS). Lunars father asks Maki, Gozaburo, and Nagasumi's Father if he can take Nagasumi, with the intent to kill him. Gozaburo and Maki predictably agree since they want Nagasumi gone (which I can agree is funny). But Nagasumi's own FATHER is JUST as nonchallant about it! HIS OWN DAD WAS FINE WITH HIM DYING!? Up until then he was a terrible abusive father who beat the shit out of Nagasumi constnatly! I NEVER agree with horribly abusive parents like him, slapstick comedy or not. But the fact that he would completely dismiss his own sone DYING really crosses a line! Atleast, if it's going to be an abusive parent, give them some care for their child in a messed up way. But NO! Instead we get "it was an unfortunate accident, lets forget about Nagasumi". Some of you may say it's funny, I say send this guy to hades!
Episode 13: This, in my opinion, is the worst. So, Nagasumi is being forced to marry Lunar. At first it was because he was accused of touching Lunars butt, but even after Lunar cleared upn the misunderstanding, her dad still forces Nagasumi to go through with it because his daughter wants him. But THAT isn't the worst part, no. Gozaburo wants Nagasumi away from Sun. He supports his and Lunars forced marriage during this episode solely for that. However, his internal monologue reveals that he still hates Nagasumi for ever trying to "steal" his daughter from him at all. He's willing to burry those feelings as to not make a scene and ruin the ceremony, but when SUN comes along, Gozaburo assumes she is here to kill Nagasumi for "cheating" on her, and completely encourages it! To reiterate, he tried to manipulate his own daughter into killing a boy who she genuinely loves for no reason other than to satisfy his own petty hatred, rather than do the deed himself. Now, Gozbaburo has been terrible in the entire franchise for ignoring his daughters feelings to kill Nagasumi and keep her to himself, but if you ask me, this level of emotional manipulation and lack of empathy really crosses the moral event horizon. Thankfully, Sun was there to fight for Nagasumi instead.
Anyways, downvote me if you want. I have no regrets making this post. I spoke my mind, but please, feel free to speak yours.
