What is up with most romance anime? Need recommendations.
So I decided to watch a bunch of romance anime.
Most of it left me largely disappointed. Even highly recommended ones. So many lack any real intimacy, I'm not talking sexually. 12 episodes and you might see a cheek kiss or a handhold. Most of them die right after a confession, like they have no idea how to write the relationship after.
I started watching Rascal Does not Dream of a Bunny--first few episodes we're great, right after he confesses, the show pretty much dies from a romance perspective. Very few intimate moments, beyond them calling each other a couple, Sakuta trying to flirt and getting shut down and Mai assaulting Sakuta. I wanted my time back, everything else wasn't really all that interesting beyond his sister finally being able to leave the house.
I enjoyed Horimiya a bit more. There was some nice wholesome moments, but once again intimacy was vacant mostly and the later episodes focused on side characters. I found it strange how we saw Hori enjoy getting abused then any actual kissing or cuddling. I get their show casing her kink a bit, no idea why the left out basic relationship physicality. At least there were some wholesome dialogues.
There is a bunch more I won't list them all, but I wondering if this is what romance anime is a nutshell?
I tried to watch some ecchin anime, thinking maybe more adult stuff would have some nice relationship build up and pay off and have more physical and emotional intimacy. but its all just tits for no reason and harem. Not my cup of tea.
I did really enjoy My Dressup Darling. Though I fear it will suffer like the rest I've watched.
Yona of the Dawn was intriguing, from a romance perspective I feel it likely won't materialize to much and it's maybe tertiary to everything else.
Now the entire reason for this rant.
Is there any romance anime with some nice build up and a payoff after the confessio?, that shows some actual intimacy and relationship progression that's not just implied? Also to open to manga suggestions. I don't want any shows where its one season and there is little resolution. If there are any that have a nice build up and payoff, that works.
Maybe this isn't the medium for it, but I'm open to suggestions. I also would like to stay far away from any with art where the cast looks 12.
Thanks in advance.
