Overall, 2025 was a great year for seasonals. Especially for Slice of Life. I even gave out my first 10/10 to a new show (not a sequel or remake) in a few years with Hibimeshi.

If I had to rank the seasons, I’d go: Spring > Summer > Winter > Fall

Overall, very okay year of anime. Definitely had some great shows, but also had plenty of disappointments and mediocrity. I’d consider 2025 to be the second weakest year of the 2020s, and it’s only better than 2020 because everything was hit by covid.

I’d usually also include my favorite backlog shows and movies I watched this year, but I didn’t complete enough of them to fill out a 3x3 lmao.

Orb had an amazing start. I did like it to the end, but the rest of the show wasn't quite as good as the first few episodes for me. Medalist is also nice to see. And it's always fun seeing Kingdom make it a 3x3.

Yuu and Nowak are both great guys.

Inori is a good girl. Yui, Wada, Shisui, and Niko are also very good picks for girls.

I didn't finish getting my OPs and EDs done in time, but I did like the Witch Watch and Watanare OPs.

Call of the Night and Rock Ladys are also great EDs.

[My 2025 anime 3x3!](https://imgur.com/a/oDYjrhG)

Honorable mentions to mono, the LycoReco shorts, Shoushimin S2, Aobuta S2, the Dragonmaid film...

Watched more airing/current anime this year than I maybe ever have, and almost all of it was excellent! (Haven't completed anything/watched much from the fall season tho, partially due to starting a new job)

TheRiyria2026-01-09 02:26

Apocalypse Hotel was great. Cygames is quickly moving up my studio rankings with how many good shows they have put out recently.

Medalist was pretty good also and I'm looking forward to this second season.

I'm not gonna lie the Turkey! OP slapped, and honestly the more I accepted all the crazy plot choices the more I realized I was having fun. It advertised itself as a character drama in EP1, and despite the twists it ended up delivering on that. Like Mai said you always get a second throw.

TheRiyria2026-01-13 00:22

Milky Subway Galaxy was great and a lot funnier than I thought it would be for a random short. Zenshu and Apocalypse Hotel were really good also.

Natsuko is nice to see. I can't say Mai is my favorite Watanare girl, but it is cool seeing one of them make the final list for the year.

Rafal was a great boy. Oosoto was interesting also, and I did like Nowak.

Kankyou Robo is fun to see and I'm glad he made it.

That is a good Watanare ship. Natsuko x Luke is a good one also.

[3x3 of my favorite characters in 2025](https://imgur.com/a/00EAckH).

Unfortunately, I didn't have enough favorite anime last year to make a 3x3, so I'm just gonna list them out:

1. Turkey

2. Hibimeshi

3. Harmony of Mille-Feuille

4. A Mangaka's Weirdly Wonderful Workplace

5. Maebashi Witches

6. Gnosia

TheRiyria2026-01-13 01:24

Shinon is a great pick! She was such a fun girl. Though I loved the entire Hibimeshi cast.

Hazama and Ruri are very good also.

That is also a very good top 6 for your favorite anime.
