Problem of expression. The Most Important Thing that Makes an Anime Good? It is Vibes.
You can take the most acclaimed anime that would be lets say Attack on Titan and for someone who does not vibe it make it shit
Or take poorly received anime's and someone would fins a way to relate to it for some reason.
No matter how certain anime is rated, there are people who found the way how to relate or it just did not affected them in any way.
because of that we label these animes overrated or underrated which is incredible selfish and tunnel vision to approach things, as it implies our opinion is the truth and others do not see something we conceptual to see.
And thats the problem. We sometimes conceptual the same story in different ways.
1. The story lets say author intended
2. The story the first person sees
3. The story the third person sees
The problem occurs with second and third person.Because both are so convinced on their truth that they dont even humor the other opinion to consider if it makes any sense according to the first opinion that is making all the ground work.
Because at the end of day, a rare anime fan that does not have at least one very popular anime that did not click with them, but for some reason for more often they written that reason as those people problem rather than them accepting a simple fact that it was not something they vibe with.

But what I found the problem with it (won't assume you do or not you tell me) there is plenty of people who discredit well received shows as mid or not so popular shows as underrated.
While at the end of the day neither of those 2 options fit the criteria, often it is just bad timing.
I truly do not understand what revelation you think you’ve uncovered.
You can acknowledge that a series is well made while personally not liking it very much
But to argue the point and what I mean by vibes a series that is closer to your personal emotional experience makes the series more impactful, thus it is more important to try to see the series from their experience rather than the quality of the series or your own thoughts on the series.
Because it is mostly subjective.
nothing you say is profound. people like different things. they always have and always will. So what?
I mean you take a comfortably above average show like AoT and get enough people whose "vibes" tell them its a masterpiece to give it a score, and then suddenly its some "critically acclaimed anime".
Biggest con in the history of this medium, but repeat it enough times and eventually people take it as fact.
