Looking for anime recommendations (no specific criteria)
I’m looking for anime and manga recommendations without strict criteria, but I’d like stories that are engaging and memorable. I enjoy a wide range of genres, including action, adventure, fantasy, slice-of-life, romance, mystery, and character-driven stories. I’m open to works from any year or country, both popular and lesser-known. Please share anime and manga that really left an impression on you or that you think are genuinely worth experiencing.

The users of this subreddit came up with [a chart of anime recommendations for newcomers and veterans](https://i.redd.it/0w1v880jtq661.png) and [an awesome longer flowchart](https://i.redd.it/vdzlkodz19c71.png). Maybe you can find something there that you'll like \^.\^

Anime:
* **The Apothecary Diaries** which is about a young apothecary woman named Maomao who grew up in the slums and for reasons end up as an unwilling washing maid in the rear palace. It is first and foremost a mystery focused story, think Agatha Christie, set in a fictional world inspired by 1600's China with some elements from before and after that era.
* **Clevatess** is a dark fantasy that is a love letter to older dark fantasy stories. It is gorey and visceral in a way that you don't see very often nowadays but it still feels very modern. There is some dashes of comedy in it. The word building is great, as is the voice acting and the background art which most of the time looks like Bob Ross paintings.
* **Frieren** is a much more relaxed and sombre adventure fantasy story than Clevatess, it is about an Elf's journey after the fall of the Demon Lord. Meeting new people, new adventures. It might seem a bit sad and tragic at start it is actually a pretty bright and hopeful story.
* **Umamusume: Cinderella Grey** might seem like a ridiculous premise but it is actually legit, the animation is great, the story is gripping. It is based on the IRL career of Oguri Cap, a lot of the races are 1 to 1 with their IRL counterparts so while it is very much a sports anime it still carries a kind of tension you don't get in most sports stories because it doesn't follow a typical sports story, meaning anyone could win the large and hyped up competitions because it covers both the good and bad parts of Oguri's career.
* **Seirei No Moribito** is a very personal story of Balsa who seeks redemption by saving lives to make up for the ones she has taken. She accepts the task of being the bodyguard of an estranged prince. It is very much a character driven story.
* **Garo: Honoo no Kokuin** is a dark fantasy story set in a place inspired by the Hispanian peninsula during the witch hunts. It is based on the live action Tokusatsu show Garo. Though it has no story relation to the live vaction shows as far as I know. It is a comming of age story following Leon, the inheritor of the golden knight armour.
* **Garo: Vanishing Line** is the sequel set a few hundred years later in early 00's American city inspired by New York. The main character this time is not one of the knight but rather an orphaned late teenage girl. If you liked the first one then this one will be quite familiar to you in many ways, just in a more modern setting.
* **Rage of Bahamut: Genesis** is a fantasy story with a more fun vibe to it, almost a bit of Pirates of Carribbean vibes to it. Though it has it's darker moments still. While it does have a sequel the story it tells is complete by itself.
