**Anime of the Season**
**A Mangaka's Weirdly Wonderful Workplace** (8/10): It was a tie between this and Cinderella Gray for AotS but this gets the nod to bring a few more eyeballs to it, as I think it was mostly overlooked. This was a pleasant, relaxed, enjoyable, and humourous workplace comedy. The characters were entertaining, well-rounded, and bounced off each other well, making for some lively fun. It also had just enough plot to give it just the right amount of depth. A fun workplace comedy.

**9/10**
**Chainsaw Man: Reze Arc**: The movie is exactly what you’d expect from more Chainsaw Man, in a good way, with a movie’s budget: cool action sequences for some spectacle, weird characters, off-beat humour, a bit of pathos, and great animation.
*****
**8/10**
**Uma Musume: Cinderella Gray**: Tied for AotS. CG is the best horsegirl gacha ad yet. The races were impressively exciting, the plot and rivalries were hype, the characters likeable, and the downtime moments were fun. All-around a really good sports show with horsegirls.
**There's No Freaking Way I'll be Your Lover! Unless...**: This continuation of an all-girl harem romcom was a last-minute drop for the season and a last-minute contender for AotS. It remains a fun harem with fun characters and nice character animation.
**A Wild Last Boss Appeared!**: This was a solid Overlord-type isekai. The story and characters were mostly fun, the mystery throughout was interesting, and the animation and pacing were pretty good. Overall, if you want more Overlord, this is a good stand-in. By the end, this season seemed like a setup to the real story; I’m looking forward to future seasons.
**My Gift Lvl 9999 Unlimited Gacha**: The title tells you exactly what this is: a ‘kicked from the party’ revenge RPG-fantasy about an Overlord-style boss. It was trash, but fun trash; it knew what it was, never tried to be more than what it was, did it well, and was entertaining.
**Let This Grieving Soul Retire**: An entertaining comedy about a clueless guild leader blindly stumbling from success to success in a fantasy realm; similar humour to Eminence in Shadow. With the introductions and premise set-up out of the way, the humour found its place, making the second season even better than the first. It was funny and I enjoyed it.

**7/10**
**My Hero Academia**: Almost a decade and it’s finally over; this is probably the longest show I’ve watched entirely seasonally since Dragonball Z on cable. The final season is the best since the early seasons; Bakugou’s fight, particularly, was probably the peak of MHA since the first season. Overall, MHA started really good, went downhill to a low in the 5th season, then recovered a bit. The story was mostly a solid battle shonen but was severely hampered by the slow pacing since the 4th season or so. The second major flaw was there were too many characters; best exemplified in the 6th season, when they had a scene [MHA 6th season] >!remembering characters who died which was supposed to be sad, but my main thought was, “who are these people?”!<. One of the better parts of this season was it concentrated primarily on the main 3; however, it would have been much better if it was combined with the previous season into one 24-26-episode season. And that goes for the whole show; it would have been much improved fitting itself into a ~20% slash in runtime since season 4. I can’t say I’d recommend the anime for the reasons above and I haven’t read the manga, but if you're interested in MHA, as it was otherwise a solid shonen, I’d probably recommend reading the manga instead, so you could take the story at your own pace instead of being subject to the anime trying to drag things out as long as possible.
**Fujimoto Tatsuki 17-26**: This compilation of Chainsaw Man’s author’s one-shots was mixed bag. It covered a variety of genres in a variety of styles, with the main thread connecting them being that they were all kind of off-beat and weird. The technical quality and animation of all the shorts was good, but the story quality varied heavily; some were interesting, others were boring. Shikaku was easily my favourite. If you like Chainsaw Man or want a showcase of weird stories, it’s worth a watch.
**May I Ask for One Final Thing?**: This started as a really fun Villainess fantasy and the plot twist was pretty cool, but as the story went on, the main joke got a bit stale and the show lacked the depth to carry it above good enough.
**The Fated Magical Princess**: This was a simple, relaxed, pleasant, reincarnated villainess anime with a likeable MC and gorgeous art.
**Dark History of the Reincarnated Villainess**: A third villainess isekai this season. As typical of these shows, it was almost entirely carried by the MC, but her combined paranoia and embarrassment at her chuuni fantasies was entertaining. It was clever of the author to set this in a middle-school chuuni story, so, any plotholes or bad worldbuilding was preemptively explained away.
**Alma-chan Wants to Be a Family!**: A cute and amusing slice-of-life about a child robot and her creators making a family.
**Isekai Quartet**: This continues to be a fun enough light-hearted comedy with characters from your favourite isekai and Shield Hero, too (It’s joke). This season they added Eminence in Shadow characters. If you’ve watched a few of these series, this is a pleasant way to see more in a relaxed setting.
**To Your Eternity**: I enjoyed the first season but didn’t like the second too much; I didn’t care for the new characters and the story got really bogged down, so I was on the fence about continuing. This season has been interesting; I’ve liked it so far. If you liked previous seasons or liked the first season and bounced off the second, you’ll probably still like this one.
**Spy x Family**: If you like Spy x Family, this is more of it. No major changes to the formula.
**My Friend's Little Sister Has It in for Me!**: This romcom didn’t do anything new or special but was mostly fun. The one novel aspect was the lively main girl and her almost antagonistic teasing of the MC, but the other side of the love triangle was dull.
**Kaguya-sama: Love Is War -Stairway to Adulthood-**: Some more Kaguya is always good, but the adapted chapters years after the anime ended felt kind of disconnected.
**Dusk Beyond the End of the World**: This was a big ***disappointment***. Episode 0 and the first episode or two set up an interesting post-apocalyptic story with an intriguing central mystery. Then it decided to abandon all that to spend a quarter of its runtime on a superfluous mafia incest romance subplot. For most of the season, the actual story got lost in the background of a series of post-apocalyptic polygamous soap opera filler sideplots. Then the actual plot, which was pretty cool, was infodumped in a single episode, rubbing it in the audience’s face that the show we could have had was far more interesting than the show we actually got. Who was this for? The only thing I can think of is this was supposed to be 2 cours, but they had to cut it down to one and it was easier to remove the SF plot than the polygamy.
**Chitose is in the Ramune Bottle**: Budget and care went into trying to make this the next Oregairu; it looked and sounded pretty with good production values. However, it was too smug and ‘I’m 14 and this is deep’, even for a genre that is generally a bit pretentious and navel-gazing. The characters and dialog were too clever and too self-aware to feel real, not to mention that every character, except the designated enemies, constantly glazing the MC got kind of annoying. The show tried too hard to subvert the ‘introverted loner MC becomes popular and respected’ trope, making the MC a narcissistic Mary Sue and molding all the other characters into unrealistic props for the MC. This may have worked in a romcom or over-the-top melodrama, but not in a grounded character drama. Then it dragged the one arc out forever and concluded it in the least interesting way possible.
**Tales of Wedding Rings**: This was ***disappointing***. I quite enjoyed the first season, it was a nice, straightforward, traditional fantasy tale; not for everyone, but I liked it. It had some, but not too much ecchi; however, this season cranked up the ecchi while sidelining the fantasy story and letting the plot spin its wheels without going anywhere for most of the season. It was hardly the same show, and much worse for it.
**My Awkward Senpai**: This wasn’t a bad adaptation, but the anime wasn’t as enjoyable as the manga. This probably would have been better as a series of shorts instead of full-length episodes; there wasn’t enough substance in the original manga to fill out full episodes. Also, the change from B&W with coloured eyes to normal anime, made it less visually striking. An okay office romcom, but the manga was better.
**Yano-kun's Ordinary Days**: A simple cutesy romance slice-of-life. It had its moments but was mostly unremarkable.
**Hero Without a Class**: A generic, mediocre, by-the-numbers “the weakest is actually the strongest” RPG-fantasy. The only character with a bit of life was dropped half-way through.
**Pass the Monster Meat, Milady!**: A fourth villainess isekai. As with most of these, it was driven by the lively villainess MC’s entertaining hyper-fixation on monster meat, but she was not enough to drag the show past how mediocre the story and other characters were. The art was nice though. This would have worked better as a villainess slow-life cooking or tavern show than a romance. ***Dropped***
**Mechanical Marie**: This romcom had a bit of charm, but not enough to avoid being ***dropped***.
**This Monster Wants to Eat Me**: This was pretty and maintained a strong depressive atmosphere in the first episode but was kind of boring after. ***Dropped***.
**Inexpressive Kashiwada and Expressive Oota**: A generic cutesy romance lost in full Saturdays. One episode ***drop***.
**Ganglion**: Okay comedy shorts about a salaryman at a sentai nemesis corporation.
*****
**5/10**
**Touring After the Apocalypse**: This had the ingredients of a good show: cute girls roaming an apocalypse with nice animation and beautiful art, but it didn’t come together. Overall, it was just boring and I can’t pinpoint exactly why. I kept watching it hoping it would click, but nothing in the show worked, from the emotional moments to the CGDCT bits to the attempted comfy SoL vibe, for some reason it all fell flat. ***Disappointing***
**Dad is a Hero, Mom is a Spirit, I'm a Reincarnator**: This started as a decent cute-MC isekai, but the story of this was a mess and got worse as it went along. For the first part of the show, the isekai’d MC was in the background as her father dealt with court politics; I think the father got more runtime than the MC. The show mostly revolved around court politics, where you were supposed to root for the perfect Mary Sue MC and her family, but it was hard to like them when they were bastards to her cousin and the designated bad guy princes, and by extension the kingdom’s inhabitants, for no good reason. Even by the standards of directionless isekai, this anime’s story was kind of meandering, lame, and forced.
**My Status as an Assassin**: The first couple of episodes had nice art and a quick pace, which kept it interesting and papered over the story’s flaws. Then it slowed down and the show’s weaknesses became too apparent. Boring and ***dropped***. If it had kept up the rapid pace, it would have been much better; things happening can go a long way in a show this mediocre and generic.
**Li'l Miss Vampire Can't Suck Right**: A bland cutesy romcom lifelessly going through the motions. One episode ***drop***.
**The Banished Court Magician**: A surprising level of animation quality for such a generic and mediocre “dropped from the party” fantasy. Boring. ***Dropped***.
**4/10**
**Gatherer's Adventure in Isekai**: The title, key visual, and inability to keep the MC’s only distinctive character trait, being really tall, straight between scenes, tells you everything to expect from this sloooow-life isekai. Slow, boring, and so generic I had forgotten I had already dropped the manga until I checked while dropping the anime. **Dropped**.

I'm afraid I'm with you on *Touring*. I wanted to like it, I wanted it to be the next *Girls' Last Tour*, but it just didn't measure up.
Glad to hear you think *Grieving Soul* S2 is even better than S1. I've only seen S1 so far, so I'm excited to continue.
Gachiakuta (6/10): The first episode was pretty cool, making this seem like a darker shonen. Then the following episodes became more generic and the trash pile sort of lost its darkness/hostility as [mild spoiler] >!it added the trash town, which was just a mostly normal town!<. Might have continued but Sundays were too busy. Dropped.
Favorite of the season. Looking forward to cour 2, hopefully it sticks the landing.
To me the season was a little underwhelming due to series that were among my most anticipated not being able to rise above a 6/10 in my eyes (which is not terrible as it's one of my most common go-to ratings for seasonals, but it ranges from being applied to works anywhere from good yet majorly flawed to just pure meh), like Alma-chan wa Kazoku ni Naritai and Shuumatsu Touring.
On the flip side, there were other anticipated series which met my vague quality expectations (Gnosia) and ones which were not even anticipated and I figured that I'd never even originally watch in the first place or drop immediately, so they exceeded any expectations (Debu to Love to Ayamachi to! and A Mangaka's Weirdly Wonderful Workplace). And some of those made my overall Top 10 of the year.
Regardless of any differences in the number of series which I watched from this season compared to the preceding three however, taking into account the variety of different series, the number/percentage of 7/10s I have (my highest rating, as I haven't had an 8/10 for a series since 2023) compared to lower ratings, and comparing my individual top favorites from each season, I still find autumn weaker than winter and spring, but slightly stronger than summer.
Out of my Top 10 for the year, for instance, winter contributed three series (all three in the top five), spring contributed four (but all in the bottom five), autumn contributed two, and summer contributed one.
Ranking everything I watched from best to worst:
Note:
- *I will not include returning new seasons of pre-autumn 2025 series (of which there were none I watched)
- *I will not include continuing two or more cour series which began prior and ran continuously into autumn 2025 (only one - Futari Solo Camp)
- *And lastly, I will not include those series I either intend to watch but haven't gotten around to yet (obviously) or am still currently watching and behind on (Let's Play, Ninja to Gokudou, Wandance, Sanda, Wei Miao Rensheng, Cengjing You Yongshi, and Paws & Palaces - and I know that those last few are Chinese anime/donghua and aren't included in the polls and sub generally, but I still include and count them)
- 1.) Gnosia - 7/10 (tentative rating - still ongoing)
- 2.) Debu to Love to Ayamachi to! - 7/10
- 3.) Shabake - 7/10
- 4.) A Mangaka's Weirdly Wonderful Workplace - 7/10
- 5.) Kimi to Koete Koi ni Naru - 6/10
- 6.) Shuumatsu Touring - 6/10
- 7.) The Lenticulars - 6/10
- 8.) Dad is a Hero, Mom is a Spirit, I'm a Reincarnator - 6/10
- 9.) Potion, Wagami wo Tasukeru - 6/10
- 10.) Alma-chan wa Kazoku ni Naritai - 6/10
- 11.) Ganglion - 6/10
- 12.) Disney Twisted-Wonderland the Animation - 6/10
- 13.) Don't Touch Kotesashi - 5/10
- 14.) Towa no Yuugure - Dropped
My list below:
1) This Monster Wants to Eat Me (8/10)

A Mangaka's Weirdly Wonderful Workplace (9/10): Very comfy SoL series with some sprinkles of comedy and romance. Highly recommended.
Uma Musume: Cinderella Gray Part 2 (8/10): ~~CAP~~ PEAK is back and just as good as the first season. Excellent sports anime even for those who don't play the game.
This Monster Wants to Eat Me (8/10): Still a great show but I was left wanting for more. I heard a lot of good things about this series and probably set my expectations too high.
Touring After the Apocalypse (6/10): It's... okay I guess? The main thing that bothers me is how many mysteries were left unexplained. They keep baiting the viewer with interesting questions and then answer almost none of them by the end.
Watanare (10/10): This is my second favourite LN series and they adapted it perfectly. No notes.
yeah, i think i got hit by overhyping too, didn't hit for me that well. still solid, but not amazing. probably helps that i can't relate to the MC's issues
The other was good ol' dependable **Spy X Family**. No real complaints, but by this point not much to wow me either so it will likely have a hard time being my personal favorite of a season.
Watatabe had my VA cast of the year and Yui Ishikawa's version of Lily was peak. I got the soundtrack for the show and was very satisfied as a source reader. One of my top 3 shows of 2025 and favorite of its season.

Dusk Beyond the End of the World (2/10)
Tougen Anki (2/10)
One Punch Man S3 (1.5/10)
Fairly average season. There were some anime with very clearly not the best productions (OPM S3, With You Our Love Will Make It Through, Mechanical Marie, etc.)
2 Great Sequels: MHA The Final Season, and Spy x Family S3 which I'd argue are the best of their run and represent what makes their stories work so well. I don't always the super popular shows anymore, but these two still mesh with my tastes really well. I love the optimism in both series despite underlying darkness in their setting. Spy x Family's setting in particular while clearly being inspired by German history feels oddly relevant to our current times too.
1 Great New Show: This Monster Wants to Eat Me. I loved this show and it was my favorite of the season and a top 3 show for me in 2025. As a manga reader I was very happy about the trio of excellent VAs and soundtrack, the latter of which I recently ordered a CD. The portrayal of Hinako's depression by Reina Ueda is one of the best, but what really stole the show for me is Yui Ishikawa capturing the nuances and divergence of Shiori. She is my favorite new character of the year and if you haven't watched the show yet the best character comparison to me is with Frieren.
2 Solid New Shows: Wandance and Mangaka's Weirdly Wonderful Workplace. Both under watched in my opinion. The former has the wonderful Hina Yōmiya starring as Wanda which is worth the price of admission alone, but I'm impressed too now that handle the sensitiveness topic of Kaboku's stutter. The latter is a workplace comedy that offered me quite a few introspective moments with its well developed cast that feel like actual adults. Hazama in particular is my favorite.
The most disappointing one was ramune bottle, hyped as next oregairu, ended up as mary sue ass mc that be glazed every episode with dialogue written by Shakespeare. I force myself to continue it because everyone said it will be better after 3 episode, but that r\*\*e episode really make me puke.
Followed by One Piece, Kaiju no.8, Dandadan, my hero academia
honorable mention: fire force
---
* Hero Without a Class: Who Even Needs Skills?!
Just a fun/silly power-fantasy but I did the whole "hardwork can overcome natural talent" vibe. It also ***actually*** progressed instead of spending 12 episodes doing barely anything.
---
One-Punch Man
* **I** for one, enjoyed it. Just felt like an average action-comedy, which I'm okay with.
---
SANDA
* I need to finish this but has been great so far.
---
Tojima Wants to Be a Kamen Rider
* This sounded like one of those seriously goofy & fun series, like Bravern & ***it was!***.
---
Ganglion
* Chill short episodes of the day-to-day of a villain in an evil organisation
---
One Piece
* Finished up the last ~20 episodes of Egghead
---
