Tamon's B-Side is the only one I've watched so far, but I've heard nothing but good things about Sentenced to be a Hero.
THATONEANGRYDOOD2026-01-09 20:35
Honestly? I thought it was kinda meh. The animation is cool and all, but the episode was 50 minutes of fighting the same creatures and a bit of aura farming at the end.
the-big-dingo2026-01-09 19:34
Whoa something out scored JJK?
krsy1232026-01-09 19:42
Sentenced to Be #1
Burnt_Toast_Enjoyer12026-01-10 01:53
Lol, nice!
Purposelygentle2026-01-09 19:53
Presumably, the people who watched the movie didn’t need to watch the first episodes of the season.
brianstormIRL2026-01-09 20:06
There.. was a new JJK movie? Wtf how did I miss that lol
Saphyrz2026-01-09 20:07
It released in October, it was a recap of the 2nd part of season 2 with the 3 first episodes of S3 I believe. It was only in the theaters around me for 3 weeks though
2521201115112019212026-01-09 21:30
Just the first 2 episodes of the new season but otherwise this is it
Gullible_Egg_65392026-01-09 21:55
What are you even talking about? This is a poll where you vote. It doesn't matter how many people watched the episodes instead of the movie.
svenleifsven2026-01-09 20:28
Im guessing something will outscore JJK every week this season.
During fall 2023 JJK s2 during Shibuya was most of the time out of the top 3 on anime corner. Ragna Crimson, The Eminance in Shadow s2, Frieren and The Apothecary Diaries usually outscored it, so it will probably be similar this season
Kyrrua2026-01-09 20:50
Be it animecorner or crunchyroll, it does not matter when the majority of people sails the seven seas...
HarshTheDev2026-01-09 20:52
Holup Anime corner recognised ragna crimson?
gvon892026-01-10 12:44
I wasnt aware anime corner was so BASED
DependentFearless1622026-01-09 21:12
That's pretty common. Anime corner has niche tastes so lots of popular animes struggle to secure top spot every season
Gullible_Egg_65392026-01-09 21:56
"nice tastes" is a funny way to say "blind hate to all shounens but we like watching anime with little girls and stupid romcoms where it takes 3 seasons for the main characters to hold hands".
zairaner2026-01-09 22:02
> "nice tastes" is a funny way to say "blind hate to all shounens
you know nothing about animecorner, do you?
VancityGaming2026-01-09 22:05
4 out of the top 5 are shounen. Is that not enough for you?
Ok-Cod52542026-01-09 23:07
>Anime corner has niche tastes so lots of popular animes struggle to secure top spot every season
Actually it's Anime Corner that usually leans more towards popular action series ([MHA dominated last season](https://www.reddit.com/r/anime/s/6khwVr32G5)) and it's Anime Trending that's more of the niche taste ([Umamusume got majority of wins last season](https://www.reddit.com/r/anime/s/wGvlwSNQMv)).
I think for Sentenced to be a Hero, it was something that went harder with the animation than anyone expected, so why it takes the first win and some people have seen the first 2 episodes of JJK S3 from the movie.
Terrapinja2026-01-10 02:58
[deleted]
Ok-Cod52542026-01-10 03:52
>That isn't very accurate for Anime Corner
I mean it was called "Bleach Corner" for a reason because Bleach often did very well on there - [as shown: the top 3 being popular action shonen series too](https://www.reddit.com/r/anime/s/hkF9bRLEev)
Compared to Anime Trending especially, it is more of the mainstream action series that get more consistent recognition at Anime Corner - and that isn't anything new, so that's the point. Not that niche series can't do well.
Terrapinja2026-01-10 05:55
[deleted]
Ok-Cod52542026-01-10 06:02
>the point I'm making is that the ranking above isn't a surprise because popular anime get outscored by niche anime pretty often on Anime Corner.
Popular action series also tend to do well often in itself, which is the point being made. It can be a mix, but it leans more towards mainstream typically than the niche.
* Many other popular action series have done well like **Attack on Titan** and **Demon Slayer**... again, it's not anything new or an anomaly for Anime Corner.
>It's the Karma Rankings where popularity has a strong impact.
Karma rankings recognized Apocalypse Hotel pretty well and even [on top once in Spring 2025](https://www.reddit.com/r/anime/s/2PPgiBAyh1) that got like no traction at all at Anime Corner and was a pretty overlooked niche original series from 2025. A generally more popular series like Fire Force happened to be lower on karma list then to.
So karma list can also have its own variance for niche against general popularity.
nmn14k2026-01-09 21:31
I wonder if the list coming out on Friday when the episodes come out on Thursday has something to do with it too
Mithy-052026-01-09 21:57
It's well deserved, one of the best first episodes I've seen in a while.
the-big-dingo2026-01-09 22:27
I’ll have to give it a watch ty
kroxti2026-01-09 22:28
Frieren comes back today
the-big-dingo2026-01-09 22:31
Next week ?
January 16th
Fickle_Meet_71542026-01-10 00:20
Killer animation and an hour long premiere helps
Icy-Organization-9012026-01-10 02:05
Don’t worry frieren would be no. 1 most of the time lol
swat16112026-01-10 02:21
This is a niche website. I highly doubt more people watched sentenced to be a hero than fucking JJK.
TemmieXdd2026-01-10 14:15
Midjutsu done by Midppa.
SuperDabMan2026-01-09 19:36
it's annoying to not have access to all of them between crunchy, netflix, and prime. Especially since prime does have different shows but only with french subs/no dub in canada =/
VividBlade2026-01-09 19:46
🏴☠️
3_14_thon2026-01-09 20:17
Well only one of those is an anime streaming service. If u said Crunchyroll, HiDive and Hulu I would've been with you. And even then from time to time u get an anime like Summer Time Rendering who's only available in Disney+.
SuperDabMan2026-01-09 20:28
Well when I'm in Japan all the anime is on Netflix 🤷♂️
Gojokatsusa72026-01-09 20:28
This is why I only have Crunchyroll which is cheap asf for watching so many anime, Netflix and prime got ads bs so nope time to sail the high seas
tripleaamin2026-01-09 19:37
**Sentenced to Be a Hero** had a GREAT start. Movie-level animation and visuals. Also did a good job giving a solid idea of the setting at the same time. I have started reading the LN, and honestly the team did an A+ job for the first episode. It draws a bit of inspiration from Helck from what I have seen so far.
**Shiboyugi** is another series I read coming into the season. The anime looks like it will give a unique experience compared to how I read it, which I love. The first episode was very experimental, and in a good way. Very excited to see how the staff continues to adapt the show.
**Tamon B-Side** is a show that any RomCom fan should give a try. It is a very endearing story, and it is loads of fun. To add on top, JC Staff is doing a fantastic job adapting it. I am beyond excited to watch more. If you are hesitant because it is a male idol, I urge you to give it a try.
Man, as much as I love the manga for **Mayonaka Heart Tune**, the anime looks very rough compared to the manga. I hope this gets more people to check out the manga, but the adaptation quality is a far cry from the art quality of the manga, even accounting for the differences in the mediums.
Also worth mentioning, too, that **Golden Kamuy** is back. Sadly, it is only the 23rd. I cannot be more excited to see how the anime pulls off the conclusion of the series as someone who fucking loves the manga. If you are a fan of great storytelling with endearing but also complex characters. A show that can hit you in the feels in one moment but also be making you laugh your ass off the next minute. Please, whether it is anime or manga, Golden Kamuy is absolutely worth your time and more.
**Journal with Witch** is one hidden gem I could see going under the radar. From the Natsume studio, and the story looks very intriguing. Seeing how this aunt and niece and their relationship go forward has me curious. For those that like character-driven stories, this one looks great. It's at 14, so hopefully more people check it out.
royale_op2026-01-09 19:43
Mayonaka Heart Tune's animation and visuals were never going to match up against the stunning art of the manga. I was more looking out for the other parts of the production like the voice acting and sound design, which so far are decent. Not really impressed as a manga reader but not disappointed either.
Saphyrz2026-01-09 20:08
We also get Medalist season 2 at the end of the month

Riskybusiness6222026-01-09 20:09
Hope Sentenced to be a Hero doesn’t pull an Oshi no Ko on us.
HarshTheDev2026-01-09 20:55
The pilot would've had to be as good as Oshi's in the first place to pull that on us.
Riskybusiness6222026-01-09 21:08
It wasn’t but it clearly had a lot of frames and good art, that seems difficult to keep up.
Ruby_Charm_AI2026-01-09 21:15
I reread Tune in to the Midnight Heart today. It was as fun as I remembered. Though it had the same problem as Mikadono Sisters; I don’t know which girl I should support as the endgame so I’m siding with the harem ending. Mikadono Sisters got a great adaptation in comparison (with a different ending song for each sister and good animation in general). But I really loved how the characters sound in Mayonaka Heart Tune. Yamabuki’s voice didn’t disappoint me at least.
tripleaamin2026-01-09 21:26
Oh yeah the big difference between Kodonsha & Shogakukan + aniplex. Adaptation in mikadono was much better.
Honestly for mayotune I am just enjoying the ride of the series. I probably might watch the anime after the manga wraps up which we have no idea when that would be.
Desiderius_S2026-01-09 21:49
I'll take the blame for Journal with Witch underperforming solely because, as a manga reader, I'm not interested in watching the anime.
Till it's done.
Then I'm gonna binge the fuck out of it.
Possibly twice.
I simply cannot imagine anyone dropping the ball on the adaptation, because the source material goes hard, it knows what story it wants to tell from start to finish, what topics it wants covered, and it just keeps going.
I really suggest that anyone looking for a good drama check it out and boost the numbers in my place.
sirmarksal0t2026-01-10 02:07
Been doing a bunch of first episode theater and this is the only one that's jumped out at me as absolutely essential. I don't know anything about the manga but the first episode just feels so authentic and I can't wait to see where they're going with it.
TermEnvironmental8122026-01-10 00:37
>**Journal with Witch**
I think one of the reasons is because I don't see well-known reactor/anituber talking about this anime
Michvito2026-01-09 19:45
im glad sentenced is available on netflix
dinliner082026-01-09 19:49
me before watching Shiboyugi: *"oh hey, a new anime with a bunch of cute girls wearing maid outfit, what could go wrong?"*
me after finishing the first episode: ***"WHAT. THE. FUCK"***
honestly, i'm glad that i went blind into episode one without reading the synopsis and the english title, makes the experience much more... depressing...
ImpressivePipe73792026-01-09 20:04
what the fuck in a good or a bad way?
Lyzaczek2026-01-09 20:13
good way probably
cs_cast_away_boi2026-01-09 20:20
the best way
bigmepis2026-01-09 20:45
Idk I really liked it but some of it was a little difficult to sit through.
HarshTheDev2026-01-09 20:53
Really? Even with the preservation treatment?
bigmepis2026-01-09 21:25
The part where [spoiler]>!Yuki is internally monologuing as we see the events of the saw trap play out. She explains exactly what’s going to happen, and even though it gives me time to prepare myself it hit hard. None of the characters are bad people (except maybe Yuki?) so hearing Aoi scream as she gets torn to pieces was just pretty rough. It feels like it lasts way longer than it does. Additionally seeing Yuki drop Kinko, you know what she’s about to do, and it’s all the more upsetting having just seen her convince Kinko to live!<
It’s so well done and the art direction is stunning. I’m looking forward to the rest of the season.
n080dy1232026-01-09 22:21
The "That fucked me up" kinda way
It's no Takopi but I was planning to watch more anime after but I needed to let that sit for a bit while I did something else.
Also it's from the director of Days with My Stepsister, and his directorial habits work very effectively here.
ThreeDMK2026-01-10 05:38
I literally did the same thing. I had a batch of Episode 1s to watch that day, but after that episode I walked away for a bit, it hit really hard. That is going to be a wild ride this season.
CapitalClean79672026-01-10 06:54
I was expecting a dumb fun anime about maids killing each other. Nah, it was a surreal, artistic episode that was genuinely unnerving and beautiful at the same time.
oops_i_made_a_typi2026-01-09 21:02
i'm conflicted with these posts because you're basically ruining the very surprise that you got to experience for others.
on the other hand, i watched the first ep because of the KV post and thought it was great.
(on the other other hand, the OP post itself has the english title which takes *some* of the surprise away, but ofc its all about how a show executes anyways)
Falsus2026-01-09 21:13
I mean it isn't a surprise, it is the title of the show.
Ruby_Charm_AI2026-01-09 21:11
Is it something like Akiba Maid Wars? (I haven’t seen that show either).
Tinktinkertink2026-01-09 21:29
It’s like Saw but they intentionally put themselves into those situations. Nothing like maid wars
Odd-Investigator65032026-01-09 22:22
A verrrry censored saw
Arachnofiend2026-01-09 22:39
The censorship is a deliberate artistic choice in this case. I quite like it.
Tinktinkertink2026-01-09 21:27
I just started reading the light novels! I absolutely cannot wait to see what’s next in the anime
Odd-Investigator65032026-01-09 22:21
Man I was disappointed in it quite a bit, maybe I’m in the minority but I really disliked the censorship and cut aways. I hope they won’t last
n080dy1232026-01-09 22:31
I'm hoping it stays up there, Strange Fake is definitely pushing its way onto the list as a mainstay starting next week, and then you're got Trigun, Hell's Paradise, Oshi no Ko, Fire Force, and of course Frieren. The only "good news" in that sense is Kaguya dropping off since it was a single episode special. This list is going to be a BLOODBATH next week.
What was it that Yuki said? 70% survive? Sounds about right.
NumberOneMom2026-01-09 22:51
Ok well thanks for ruining the potential surprise for me and everyone else reading this comment, and depriving us of the experience that you enjoyed so much.
Castor_0il2026-01-09 23:02
> me before watching Shiboyugi: "oh hey, a new anime with a bunch of cute girls wearing maid outfit, what could go wrong?"
Akiba Maid Wars:
[**First time?**](#bitchplease)
mythriz2026-01-09 23:43
Man I finally got around to watch it, it was definitely a different vibe than I expected, even knowing that it was about death games.
The direction was a lot more "artsy" than I expected too, reminds me a bit of Shaft and Madoka Magica.
In any case it was incredible, another great show I'm looking forward to keep watching this season.
Particular-Eye-19682026-01-12 21:17
Peak
ConArtist982026-01-09 19:57
Not that I expected it to make into a list like this, but I'd vote for Ikoku Nikki over any other show, had a remarkable opening episode.
tripleaamin2026-01-09 21:27
Easily jumped into one of my most anticipated of the season after its episode 1 alongside golden Kamuy.
Arachnofiend2026-01-09 22:43
Definitely the artsy darling of the season. I'm keeping my eye on Darwin Jihen too; it's definitely *trying* to be the same kind of philosophical slow burn as Monster but I am far from declaring its success with any certainty.
sirmarksal0t2026-01-10 02:24
Bounced hard off of Darwin. It felt like self-parody. With a premise that weird you can't go back to standard storytelling tropes without it feeling silly. Reminded me of Mac and Me.
After getting blown away by how good Journal with Witch was, I thought I'd keep using interesting thumbnails as a guide for what to watch next, but this and Washed Away yielded disappointing results.
Arachnofiend2026-01-10 02:52
Fair enough. I'm in "benefit of the doubt" mode at the moment, not ready to say if I like it or not.
Aureus232026-01-09 19:59
Chained Soldier numba 3, LETS FUCKING GOOOOOO!
bandannadann2026-01-09 20:00
Happy to see Chained Soldier getting love! The new character designs are a massive upgrade over season 1, and now that the rest of the chiefs are introduced, we are finally in the promised land
cs_cast_away_boi2026-01-09 20:21
am i the only one who thinks the characters either look the same or worse? Like nothing was wrong with season 1 in the first place in my eyes
bandannadann2026-01-09 20:26
The characters look very different. You can [compare the designs here](https://mabotai.jp/character/season2.php#/) from season 1 and season 2. For me, it's a massive upgrade! And much more faithful to the manga.
cs_cast_away_boi2026-01-09 21:19
yeah no. they still look very similar. kyouka actually looks worse. oh well
contemporare2026-01-09 20:57
I'm completely with you. I'm not a manga reader, but s1 character art and animations had a charm and personality to it. But s2 character art and animation feels so off. Some of the characters look completely different from how they looked in s1. But it also feels like all the s2 character faces look like each other and they've lost their individuality. It's a weird uncanny feeling.
And I looked through the manga art and really don't see how season 2 is any more faithful at all other than using dark nose shadows instead of bright nose reflections to contour the face. But for me the nose reflections looked better in s1 than the shadows do in s2. I don't think the nose shadows translate well to colorized animation.
actionfirst12026-01-10 04:44
Season 2 starting out giving us the female Gojo, you love to see it
OkResearcher57232026-01-10 13:04
promised Land season 2?
wait wait wait
NinKenDo_642026-01-11 00:08
No no no.
Don't you bring that cursed energy here!
Successful-Name-52362026-01-09 20:01
Shiboyugi is my top 1 of this season without a doubt, the only striking thing about Sentenced to be a hero was its incredible animation and fights, because its story is a cliché already used of revenge plots and honestly I'm not very excited about that aspect.
NoDonutPears2026-01-10 06:54
My thoughts exactly!
Sentenced to be a Hero has a very cliché story, and that’s why it’s popular if you think about it (it has a mainstream appeal, especially for casual & first-time anime watchers).
Successful-Name-52362026-01-10 07:09
Yes, that makes sense hahaha 😂
LowraAwry2026-01-10 10:43
Yeah, I liked the action in Sentenced to be a hero and its start gave me the impression it would be more imaginative with its story or direction but it turned quite trope-y as the episode went on.
I see a lot of people liking Shiboyugi and it hasn't been in my radar, maybe I should give it a chance.
Frontier2462026-01-09 20:05
Romcoms! Death games! Battle Shonen's! Dark Fantasy! Ecchi Battle Harems! Truly the absolute breadth that is the anime genre.
Galactus17012026-01-09 20:08
Tamon’s B-Side was actually good.
moichispa2026-01-09 22:08
I'm, suspired at how fun it is. Very casual makes you laugh easily.
Otherwise-Waltz-32112026-01-10 17:24
It's Yuki Shiwasu's second big hit after Takane&Hana! It sadly didn't get adapted into anime but i can guarantee that it was just as hilarious as Tamon's B side so i recommend checking that out if you'd like
Whendfield1232026-01-09 20:18
Nice to see sentenced to be a hero at the top. The artstyle is very pretty and is similar to first season of mushoku tensei. Teoritta was so cute wanting to be praised hand headpatted.
Cloudiscloud2026-01-10 09:07
That's because a lot of the same animation team worked on both!
GroovynBiscuits2026-01-09 20:49
Sentenced to be a hero 1st episode was great. I had no idea what to expect
Whendfield1232026-01-09 20:55
I just watched champignon no majo and it was very pretty. The music at the start set the tone really well
a-handle-has-no-name2026-01-09 20:57
Kojima Wants to be a Kamen Rider is still airing, is this list only for series that are starting to sit in Jan?
SmileProfessional9742026-01-09 21:00
Anyone here have any insight on if a weekly ranking video where I rank every episode from from \[almost\] every show? Wold there be too many spoilers to risk watching or does it just seem like a lot of effort for not much entertainment?
Falsus2026-01-09 21:11
One favourite of the season so far was Shiboyugi by a landslide, it was freaking great.
MetaThPr4h2026-01-09 21:14
Absolutely loved the first episode of Shiboyugi, 100% my type of show, really looking forward to more.
I also watched the first episode of Midnight Heart, pretty good and the protagonist looked like someone I will enjoy watching.
Now waiting for [Jingai Kyoushitsu no Ningengirai Kyoushi](https://myanimelist.net/anime/62432/Jingai_Kyoushitsu_no_Ningengirai_Kyoushi) to come out in hopes that it will be the [Demi-chan](https://myanimelist.net/anime/33988/Demi-chan_wa_Kataritai?) fix I have been waiting for... ugh... 9 years... that siren girl looks sooo my thing.
idk if I will check out anything else yet, 3 + the goated Kamen Rider continuing from last season is already a lot for current me.
nox_tech2026-01-09 21:15
For anyone interested, there's the /r/TamonsBSide sub!
Noiserawker2026-01-09 21:17
Clevatess last season and Sentenced to be a Hero this season, dark fantasy is alive and well!
Odd-Investigator65032026-01-09 22:25
Are either of them similar to berserk or are they more similar to isekai dark fantasy (minus the isekai)
DeathKnight002026-01-09 22:44
They feel closer to a grimmer Final Fantasy (the earlier games) than isekai or berserk. Funnily enough, Heroes in both are designated titles with differing connotations.
Pyoung30002026-01-10 15:01
Imo Sentenced to be a Hero has an isekai vibe while Clevatess does not.
ShadowWolfInf2026-01-12 07:13
Helk is similar too i feel, in the same vein, but more a shade of grey that didnt fit into the normal fantasy
RabuSaru2026-01-09 21:17
LETS GO CHAINED SOLDIER RAAAHH
AegonVandelay2026-01-09 21:20
wtf is sentenced to be a hero
Edit: oh wait, I remember seeing a trailer for it and thinking it looked p good. Guess I'll check it out.
edrifighting2026-01-10 01:49
I said the same thing, was shocked when I watched it (in a good way).
supermigu-2026-01-09 21:21
You can always trust anime corner to have the newest generic romcom slop somewhere in the top ten atleast this time its near the bottom and likely to get booted.
heyitsvae2026-01-09 21:24
I tried Sentenced to be a Hero last night. The animation is actually beautiful, but I didn't care at all about what was happening and the story seems to just be an excuse to have the spectacle of the fighting be the main experience. Maybe I'll try it again, but it might just not be my thing.
Kooler2212026-01-09 22:55
Sometimes you just gotta accept that something isn't for you. I tried to watch Demon Slayer like 4 times because people kept recommending it to me, I never got into it. Animation was beautiful but the story felt so lackluster to me.
Arachnofiend2026-01-09 22:57
Glad to see some comments like this, I was pretty suspicious when I struggled to find anyone praising anything other than the animation. I think for my tastes the author's other work this season (Yuusha no Kuzu) looks more interesting.
LowTie39032026-01-09 21:28
Shiboyugi deserves second or first for sure. It was a delight to watch a unique premise be executed by such quality.
PraetorianOgryn2026-01-13 08:50
Some of the anime on this list are only on there for obvious reasons. Some of the anime on here are the top 3 but not there and at least first place actually belongs there.
Ordinary-You81022026-01-09 21:37
How is JJK not first lmao

The first 2 episodes of the new jjk season were already part of the movie so people who watched the movie propably won’t watch the first two episodes again and wait for the third.
Theres also the fact that sentenced to be a hero is a newer show with above average animation and a non isekai dark fantasy (which is a genre a lot of people seem to be into nowadays).

No love for the bean counters out there? Its fine, being a shachiku isnt for everyone. I guess its like when I laugh at things that happen in "The Office"; people laugh because it's ridiculous, I laugh because it's a documentary for my life.

Nice to see MHA:Vigs making to the list

I wonder if that one scene got people to look at chained soldier lmfao.

Sentenced to Be a Hero had a fantastic first episode but I'm continually surprised how explosive it's popularity has been from that single episode alone. MoistCritikal even did a video on it (where he also shouted out Orb, 100 Meters, and Strange Fake), and when he's making a video about an anime you *know* that shit is hitting the mainstream audience.

This is how I found out a couple shows I like have started up again lmfao

Nice to see Kaguya-sama and Tune in to the Midnight Heart

Shiboyugi needs to be higher after that amazing first episode. Fucking ruined me
IWantToRetire22026-01-10 00:00
Tried to watch Sentenced to be a Hero but the level of exposition dialogue made me drop it middle ep 1
Phemos2026-01-10 00:14
Sentenced to be a hero was so jarringly "im the person who makes a lone wolf guy dnd character" level of edge that I couldn't tell if it was parody or not. Ill watch another episode just to laugh that hard again.
Suitable_Split_59022026-01-10 00:43
I am more excited for the chained soldier then other anime in this lol 😂

Solid picks for week one. Winter 2026 already goes hard
soctamer2026-01-10 04:50
what ticks me off is if you overlook the production quality (which is absolutely amazing) of "sentenced to be a hero", it's a generic cliche edgy fantasy with cardboard cutout characters. you can look at a character for 5 seconds and guess 90% of their personality, backstory and substance. people hyped it up so much and it turned out to be a very beautifully animated 60 minutes of nothing
Raddish30302026-01-10 06:27
Any good originals?
detarameReddit2026-01-10 06:48
For both *Sentenced to Be a Hero* and *Shibō Yūgi*, I feel like the writing of the original source material will determine if their ranking improves, stays the same, or plummets. Both seem to be decently well received LNs, so this could be interesting.

Shibou Yuugi is only anime that can make me feel horror.
Gaymeboy_Otaku2026-01-10 07:39
Is sentenced to be a hero that GOATED? Wasn't really on my radar. Might check it out now.

I'm sorry for the needless bitching but it needs to be said and to inform anyone confused on Strange Fake this week.
For anyone confused why Strange Fake didn't even make the cut this week, just wait til tomorrow for the *actual* new episode. They dropped the ball so hard on the handling for this show it's insane.
Episode 0 was a pilot episode that came out in 2023 as a promotional episode if you will to get everyone hyped up for the anime and then in 2024 they started airing the show with episode 1 and then said "Yeah actually we aren't happy with how production went with the show and we're delaying it to make it better" and honestly that's completely fair.
What bothers me is that the anime didn't pick back up from where it aired with episode 1 back in 2024 and we get episode 2 back on the 3rd last week, no they had to actually air episode 1 on Japanese TV so that it made this the *official* airing of the showing being weekly now despite the fact pretty much anyone who cared about the series Japanese or West had already watched it back in 2024.
Like what tf was even the point in letting us have episode 1early then if you were just going to start airing the series from the beginning again...
PencilgonGiveIt2Ya2026-01-10 16:19
Shiboyugi being all the way at 10 seems kinda crazy
Training_Bother_16632026-01-11 23:22
I'm happy to see SHIBOUYUUGI in the top 10, although I expected to see it higher, but oh well, it doesn't matter. The next episode will probably surprise us with another death game and a new character. I'm eager to learn more about the protagonist, Yuuki Sorimachi, and her background, and how she became a veteran in these deadly games.

During fall 2023 JJK s2 during Shibuya was most of the time out of the top 3 on anime corner. Ragna Crimson, The Eminance in Shadow s2, Frieren and The Apothecary Diaries usually outscored it, so it will probably be similar this season
you know nothing about animecorner, do you?
Actually it's Anime Corner that usually leans more towards popular action series ([MHA dominated last season](https://www.reddit.com/r/anime/s/6khwVr32G5)) and it's Anime Trending that's more of the niche taste ([Umamusume got majority of wins last season](https://www.reddit.com/r/anime/s/wGvlwSNQMv)).
I think for Sentenced to be a Hero, it was something that went harder with the animation than anyone expected, so why it takes the first win and some people have seen the first 2 episodes of JJK S3 from the movie.

Honestly for mayotune I am just enjoying the ride of the series. I probably might watch the anime after the manga wraps up which we have no idea when that would be.
I think one of the reasons is because I don't see well-known reactor/anituber talking about this anime
me after finishing the first episode: ***"WHAT. THE. FUCK"***
honestly, i'm glad that i went blind into episode one without reading the synopsis and the english title, makes the experience much more... depressing...
It’s so well done and the art direction is stunning. I’m looking forward to the rest of the season.
It's no Takopi but I was planning to watch more anime after but I needed to let that sit for a bit while I did something else.
Also it's from the director of Days with My Stepsister, and his directorial habits work very effectively here.
on the other hand, i watched the first ep because of the KV post and thought it was great.
(on the other other hand, the OP post itself has the english title which takes *some* of the surprise away, but ofc its all about how a show executes anyways)
What was it that Yuki said? 70% survive? Sounds about right.
Akiba Maid Wars:
[**First time?**](#bitchplease)
The direction was a lot more "artsy" than I expected too, reminds me a bit of Shaft and Madoka Magica.
In any case it was incredible, another great show I'm looking forward to keep watching this season.
After getting blown away by how good Journal with Witch was, I thought I'd keep using interesting thumbnails as a guide for what to watch next, but this and Washed Away yielded disappointing results.
And I looked through the manga art and really don't see how season 2 is any more faithful at all other than using dark nose shadows instead of bright nose reflections to contour the face. But for me the nose reflections looked better in s1 than the shadows do in s2. I don't think the nose shadows translate well to colorized animation.
wait wait wait
Don't you bring that cursed energy here!
Sentenced to be a Hero has a very cliché story, and that’s why it’s popular if you think about it (it has a mainstream appeal, especially for casual & first-time anime watchers).
I see a lot of people liking Shiboyugi and it hasn't been in my radar, maybe I should give it a chance.
Edit: oh wait, I remember seeing a trailer for it and thinking it looked p good. Guess I'll check it out.
Theres also the fact that sentenced to be a hero is a newer show with above average animation and a non isekai dark fantasy (which is a genre a lot of people seem to be into nowadays).
