100 meters is pretty average
"So, do you like to run?
Not really. It's pretty hard.
Okay, then why are you always running?
'Cause it gets blurred.
What do you mean? What's blurred?
\- The world.
\- \[gentle music\]
When I run, it hurts,
more than reality, so it distracts me."
"Cause it gets blurred" - shoehorned trauma dump and unrealistic dialogue. No kid talks like that to someone they just met and is now walking them home. Also ugly character design. Themes only seem deep.

And yes, it's only sometimes dramatic but it works because it respects the character's ages and POVs.
No 6 grader is doing philosophical discussions with another 6 grader they just met 10 minutes ago.
The dialogue in the post is done by 2 6-graders who just met
"Everyone dies one day. Everyone. Even wolves. But not books. Not words. Words don't die"
\-my son 3, who is a lot smarter than I am
The difference is in intent and result
We don't even know if there's "trauma" there. Could just have been your run of the mill mental health issues. Actually would make it way more realistic if there wasn't some deep dark trauma at home and Komiya was just fucking depressed cause life generaly fucking sucks sometimes.
>No kid talks like that to someone they just met
Debateable, kids are fucking weird.
>ugly character design

>Themes only seem deep
I don't even think it's trying to be "deep". What is the theme that you think "seems deep" here?
General feeling of emptyness/pointlesness? Struggling to find meaning and enjoyment in shit that used to mean everything to you? Struggling to find something worth dedicating your life towards? Just anxiety in general?
These seem like very basic aspects of the human condition that the author chose to explore trough the lens of 100 meter dash, which i would argue makes these topics less deep than just talking about them directly.
I mean, I don't see that as an issue for what *Ping Pong* wants to be, nor do I find it to be an issue for what *100 Meters* wants to be.
1). The bearded character having the same VA as Nowak (from the mangaka's other manga, "Orb: On the movements of the Earth"). Poor VA is typecasted into badasss bearded dudes.
2). The protagonist breaking character design and transforming into rotoscoped live action Japanese guy when he breaks into tears.
I liked the movie, but I think your opinion is awesome too. I did take a break because the movie was longer than I expected.
I would say 100 meters has good plot yet the pacing and animation quality is not that good. In some scenes i even think the pace and quality are awful. About art style i dont like both 100 meters and ping pong, but it does not interfere that they are good anime.
