You give no information on what you normally watch. Berserk can be a hard first watch (only watch the 1997 version).

Personal_Parfait_6282026-01-10 06:16

I only watched finished gundam iron blooded orphans and a few more Gundam animes I wanted to try and watch some other anime genres

is the best year? The year hasnt happened yet lol.
Just google top 10 fantasy anime and watch it all since you are new.
Once your google recommendations start to repeat, then ask here for deeper ones.

Well, it really depends what you enjoy. I recently just got into Anime myself (literally a couple months ago) and have seen a fair bit. I personally started with Death Note as it’s a psychological game of wits, that of which i enjoy. If your attention span isn’t great, starting with something short but spicy could help!
My recent watches have been:
Can a Boy-Girl Friendship Survive?,
Charlotte,
Alya Sometimes Hides Her Feelings In Russian,
Attack on Titan,
Chainsaw Man,
Re: Zero.

Dry-District9372026-01-10 02:36

Jujutsu Kaisen or Bleach, The berserk 1997 version is the only passable one and still it’s better to just read the manga for that

This is a hilarious anime lol

Naruto

Berserks story is peak but it’s known for not having a good proper adaptation from the source material so I wouldn’t recommend it tbh unless you wanna read manga.

Here’s some that are popular and well-loved by the community.

Attack on Titan

Death Note

Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood

Cowboy Bebop

Demon Slayer

Frieren: Beyond Journeys End

Vinland Saga

Calijay2472026-01-10 02:52

Watching an anime movie my first one was ninja scroll.

Basically any movie by studio ghibli

You should start with reading the post in the sidebar of recommendations for the thousand other identical threads of people asking the exact same question

Captincorpse2026-01-10 03:11

Ahh, but that would require them to read and think. The average redditor doesn't know how to do that

Prince_Uncharming2026-01-10 03:24

This sub (most subs tbh) is getting to the point where I wish it was just the auto threads (watch threads, top weekly, etc). The amount of low effort posts is astounding and people refuse to learn that the search function exists.

Maybe I’m just online too much

No not Berserk, why not? It's not a first anime type of show. Imagine someone new to video games plays Dark Souls.

If it is Fantasy you are looking for, start with "Frieren" (yes this is the title. If you are from germany like me it is just a random ass word I use every winter a billion times) for multiple reasons.

1. It is Main Stream friendly. It is important because anime as a medium has a huge history. This hisrory includes tropes like fanservice. Frieren does not have tropes. For long time fans like me it is common to encounter tropes but for newcomers I recommend to experience them bit by bit after getting used to anime content. So no tropes.

2. It is new from a year ago or 2. Simple for that, It's graphics.

3. It gets a second season right now and most likely get more after that. With that you always have something to look for.

4. It is one of the best Fantasy shows out there. It's deep, it allows you to think about it and the hinted topics. If you like that, it will be a feast. If not, shame on you.

5. It has really good animation quality. Around a 8 - 9 only beaten by something like the Fate franchise that is a 10 in current limits. It maked it easier to watch. Especially the battles are animated really well.

6. And last, it is a slower show. Why is this relevant? I assume you come from a hollywood background. Most modern Hollywood content is trying to be fast, dynamic, only talks or how I discribe it can't shut up, discribes what is happening on screen and follows a certain repetative pattern in storytelling. Frieren is the complete opposite and a good reflection on some of the best anime out there. So you get used to the structure of good anime and it's more important than you think because it's probably unfamiliar and diffrent.

After that look up some shows that are from a wished genre.

abandoned_idol2026-01-10 03:20

Berserk has one recent very badly made anime adaptation, and some really old anime.

Not the one I'd recommend.

You are free to choose whatever anime you like of course. Make sure to watch lots of different ones! Preferably short ones (12-24 episodes).

Summer_19_2026-01-10 03:30

Bubblegum Crisis.

It’s a mature anime though… 🥺

Gusthell2026-01-10 03:40

Golden era of anime ended.
Its nice that we get some anime. But most of them are mid.
Seasoning anime ruin most of the shows.

Lets say Bleach. 366 ep was released withing 8 years. Ofc we had fillers that time.
Now we have wait 4 years or more to finish 52 episodes. And its not even worth as this arc is worst in the series. Fillers are better

pratical_one2026-01-10 03:56

Ya must watch it because of its genre and action and crunchy storyline

timpkmn892026-01-10 03:57

>Recently I've seen lots of videos of people saying that 2026 is the best year of anime

Pretty sure those said 2006

Personal_Parfait_6282026-01-10 06:23

Sorry I didn't phrase it properly English is not my first language I meant 2026 is going to be the best year for anime

kicksFR2026-01-10 04:04

Honestly just hop on the seasonal shows and you’ll find stuff you enjoy, stuff you don’t. Pick up and drop shows as you build a taste for anime

Death note

WhatTheTooterino2026-01-10 18:13

You'll find yourself likely drawn to certain genres as you watch more and it will make it easier to find things. But I'd recommend Frieren to anyone, my favorite of all time :)
